Amateurs only - no marathon types welcome.

I intend to do a mile every couple of days I used to do this ages ago and finally need to get back to it.

Any takers? I am not a runner But cant be arsed to do organised excercise....

I'll sign up. I like the sound of this. I'm definitely not a marathon runner or that athletic, but I find running is the only thing that fits into my day effortlessly - and it's free.

I used to run at lunchtimes 2 or 3 times a week too (about 90 minutes running in total)- got me off mumsnet at least!Hana, give it a try, but you do need access to a shower afterwards. All the people who did it felt benefits within a couple of weeks.

Now I try to run to work 3 or 4 times a week (takes 15 - 20 mins or so each time with a back pack on my back as well - a bit pathetic I know but better than nothing). And I don't always stick to this, especially if the temperature soars as it did in the summer. Not fast running you understand - if I feel rough I slow right down to an almost walk. Then just keep going. It's when I try to push myself to run faster that I feel like giving up. I used to run for 50 minutes at most in my lunchhour. Don't know if I could mamage that now, but according to a fitness instructor I talked to, lots of shorter runs still have the same effect on you as a few longer runs.

If I don't run I walk to and from work anyway. Luckily, thanks to Ken Livingston's efforts to get more people commuting by foot or bike, a shower rooom was installed next to my office just before I started my job.

I have tried classes, tried the gym and although I like these things they intrude into my time too much now I am back at work. If you can run to or from work, it's well worth it.

can I run with a pushchair (or walk fast!) ? please...

codswallop · 12/11/2003 18:03

yes fio you may - track out a route and get really red in the face -a t the speed I run I cant see much difference!

  • Tigermoth sure you arent too good for us? you sound very athletic...

Have told dh that if I keep it up I will need some form of stereo device to listen to.

I agree re. fitting in - and no need to wear bizarre thongy gear

My mile takes me 12 mins but I aim to increase the distance...!

Sorry to interrupt, but I am trying to perform some research into physical activity during pregnancy and this thread seemed too good to be true.

If you fancy the idea of helping me out by filling in a few questionnaires (you do not have to be a regular exerciser,...just pregnant)
then please visit the non-members requests page and follow the help advance research in exercise and pregnancy link.

sorry to interupt again

Twink · 13/11/2003 10:17

I did !

And I've just just been out again this morning, I'm not trying for teacher's pet but I'm trying to lose 3kg by Christmas without having to modify my eating habits..

Sonnet · 13/11/2003 10:23

well done girls - you're inspiring me for Saturday...

tigermoth · 13/11/2003 12:33

I half did - started running to work this moring then realised I'd forgotten the key to my locker with my spare clothes in it, so walked very briskly instead - does that count? oh and I ran for about 10 minutes of the home journey yesterday, much harder because it's uphill - but I was late so had to do it.

coddy, honestly I am not at all athletic!

codswallop · 13/11/2003 12:52
