oh my,we're starting our 18th !

Thanks MAS

Sometimes, a friend gave me a bag of Montezuma buttons for my birthday. Once tasted, it's hard to go back to Cadburys, though obviously I never refuse. What on earth are Maoams? Confused

Kurri, that's v.useful advice. I really should try and get a step ahead of their needs. At the moment they cope well, but this weekend really made me realise I need to stop being in denial and 'manage' them a bit more. Hate using that word, but I'm sure you know what I mean! A trip with your DD sounds lovely. You can get a boat up the Thames to HC. Think I might do that with DS soon. Smile

Sometimesiwonder · 23/01/2012 14:53

You can - and also out to Runnymede, which is apparently lovely.

I want Montezuma Buttons I can't conceive of anything lovelier than a Cadbury's Button, they must be completely magnificent.....

Maoams are chewy sweets which we love (made by Haribo, which we don't). You get a gratifyingly large amount for £1.

It's all gone bold and shouty!!!!!!

Sometimesiwonder · 23/01/2012 15:47

Or maybe not Confused

Confused
smee · 23/01/2012 16:02

Ooh it's back to normal. How odd.

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/01/2012 16:24

we once took a boat from Kew Pier to HC when ILs came to stay- it took an age because the water was very low so by the time we got there we had about an hour to look around,so no maze or anything really.
Moam stripes ? I do love chewy sweets. You used to be able to get a Montezuma mixed jar, with white, milk and plain buttons- all delicious
Ds has come in and whisked his music diary upstairs, which is a bit mysterious..

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 23/01/2012 16:55

grrrr- ds hid music diary in the hope that I wouldn't see that he missed last week's singing lesson (he'd forgotten) (and he'd fibbed when I asked him how it went- he usually says 'fine' to any query) and this week he had to be sent for because he'd lost track of time...

OP posts:
BackforGood · 23/01/2012 17:00

yy to buttons please. Cadburys are my favourite (although I've never heard of Montezuma). I am probably allowed lots as I only had celery, cherry toms, and cottage chees for lunch

jchocchip · 23/01/2012 17:06

Oops. Guess it is difficult to remember things in exam season. Had a busy day, nice drive around doing site visits this morning, only one garden that appeared to have been ploughed and I got terribly muddy walking to the boundary for a photo...

Bought dd some A1 plastic pockets for her portfolio. First interview on Thursday so she had better get a move on!

This work thing does get in the way of mumsnet...

smee · 23/01/2012 17:24

I had celery and cherry toms too, though I also had a huge chunk of full fat cheese, salad dressing, loads of bulgar and pine nuts oh and a couple of choc biscuits Grin

Oh dear MAS, though he does sound very typically teenage. Not much help that though am sure.

jane, what's DD's interview for. Is it for Foundation? Apologies if I've missed that somewhere. Confused

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/01/2012 17:39

exciting about dd's interview jane !
I guess that ds had a lot on last week, with the three exams so will be understanding but really he should have been honest with me about forgetting.
I loathe being late for anything and would be mortified if I forgot something important- but I mustn't apply my expectations of me on to him..it's just -grrr

OP posts:
jchocchip · 23/01/2012 17:41

yes it is for foundation. Oops its teatime! ttfn

amberlight · 23/01/2012 18:42

'ello! Holsten, welcome! What news of the scan? Keeping everything crossed.

Thanks for thoughts re today, all. This was onc visit to check radiotherapy results (v good) heart test results ( v good) and herceptin. We'll try one more herceton thingy, see how that goes, and stop if numbness etc gets worse again. Then we have to hope that 5 doses instead of 18 doses is enough to stop this particular form of breast cancer from returning, since it's an aggressive rudely behaved sort. Not sure how I feel about it. But at least we can go on holiday, Mrs Consultant says. But I have to avoid strong sun...hmm....want to cruise round the med but that's a lot of sun, isn't it...

holstenlips · 23/01/2012 19:30

Evening everyone, thanks for all the welcomes. So, went for ct scan today. Was ok until they injected the iodine, felt a bit sick. Scan itself very quick. Sent out to waiting room and managed to faint, felt rather poorly so had to stay for a couple hours! They said blood sugar was a bit high gave me tea, biscuits and mars bar (bonus) threatened me with a + e , but thankfully I felt bit better and was allowed out as my mate driving. Apparently the iodine can make some people feel v wonky.

I'm feeling better now, just tired. Didn't get any results. I did the paranoid thing of thinking they looked funny at me afterwards !!

Tomorrow getting ready for hosp: hairdo, tea and cake with friend, packing bag.

Any top tips re lymph gland removal? This is a new one on me.

Hope you all having a good evening.xx

smee · 23/01/2012 20:24

Holsten, feinting's not so good. Poor you. Sad I did that paranoid thing at my CT too - was convinced they were being incredibly nice to me because they'd spotted something, but turns out they were just being incredibly nice. Smile

Those of us who've had lymph nodes removed have had them taken from under arms, so not too sure we can help you on that. I'd imagine you might feel numb and have some nerve pain if it's anything like the armpit. Confused Hope tomorrow all goes as well as it can do. Come back when you can and tell us you're okay. x Smile

Amber, that's a lot of good news then. I guess all you can do with the Herceptin is take it one dose at a time. Enjoy the good heart/ rads results though. Brilliant to hear that. Smile

jchocchip · 23/01/2012 20:24

Oh hi Holsten sorry I missd you earlier. Was the scan to track the nodes? I remember having one early morning the day of my op for sentinel node biopsy, then when I had the op they had a good idea where the nodes were and just injected a blue dye to find them. I didn't know to expect blue wee after the op and that was a bit disconcerting! All the best for tomorrow.

ElusiveCamel · 23/01/2012 20:31

Hello to everyone.

holstenlips Hello and well done on making it through today. I had 3 lymph nodes removed from under my arm 2 weeks ago - not sure how different it'll be from groin though.

Sometimesiwonder Ouch for your poor mum! And thank you :)

smee :( at parents, that sounds really worrying all round.

topsy Such great news that your skin is better :) It sounded horrific.

ned Hope you're feeling better every day.

I spoke to my GP on the phone today and I'm going to see him on Thursday morning (at 7.30am!) to decide whether I want to have the lymph node in my neck scanned or not. He thinks that I will almost certainly end up being referred for another biopsy if I agree to a scan (if it's 1cm+, which I think it is) and that I should delay having a scan and seeing what my blood test results look like in 3 weeks before deciding. I think that if it looks as abnormal as the one under my arm did (which had 3 out of 3 characteristics of something nasty), then maybe I should have it biopsied? But ugh, I don't know. What I'd actually like is to have the scan sooner rather than later and for it to look fine so that I can just forget all of it and wait to see if everything returns to normal in X months. What I think I may suggest is have the ultrasound and if it's just enlarged, I won't necessarily agree to a biopsy straight away and do a bit of wait and see. I think though that they could do it under local, which makes it a bit of an easier thing to agree to. WWYD?

jchocchip · 23/01/2012 20:31

Hi amber. Do they mean avoid strong sun completely? Wouldn't suncream and a closely woven shirt be enough? What meanies. Hope the next herceptin behaves itself.

Off to collect dd2 from guides. It takes the two of us as the elephants zumba ladies are upstairs and the car park full...

smee · 23/01/2012 20:39

Amber, factor 50, long sleeves, etc and you can sit in the sun but not at midday - that's what I was told when I went to Morocco 4 months post Rads. Smile

Driftwood999 · 23/01/2012 21:09

Good luck with your treatment holstenlips. As others have said, this is the place to say how you feel.
Only 5 more rads, all boosts I was told today. What generally happens re: appointments, once rads finish?

KurriKurri · 23/01/2012 21:13

Well done on getting through today Holsten, - sounds as if it was a bit tough Sad

Regarding lymph nodes, are they clearing them all out, or sampling some to test? If you are losing them all I would guess you might have to take certain precautions because you will be vulnerable to infections without them - but if that is the case they will tell you all about it at the hospital (I'm basing this on losing armpit nodes) hopefully the incision wont be too big, but you'll feel sore for a couple of weeks afterwards I'd guess.

Not sure whether you'll have a drain in - have they said? I would have thought quite likely with lymph nodes (Don't know whether you have had surgery before, - a drain is a tube which takes off excess fluid from the wound - apologies if I'm stating the obvious! Grin)

An MP3 player is nice in hospital - especially if you feel too tired to read, - a bit of cash for the TV /phone/ newspapers, some baby wipes so you can freshen your face, some juice/squash if you want a change from water, and maybe some sweets to suck - it can gets quite hot and dry your mouth.

I'm sure you've thought of all these things, but just trying to remember the things which made me a bit more comfortable.Smile

Good luck for your DD on thurs. jane Smile

amber - high factor sunscreen, and a big old sunhat (I've got into the habit of wearing one whenever I go out in the summer) I know you have to be careful, but actually vitamin D is also supposed to be good for people who've had/have cancer, so you don't want to avoid going out in the sun all together IMO.

Camel - its full of tough decisions this business isn't it? If it were me, and especially if they can do it under local, I'd want the biopsy - it's a pity they couldn't have done them all at the same time, to save you going through the waiting game again Sad

But it depends really on what they advise, and what you feel comfortable with. And of course the fact that you were clear on the other nodes is very much in your favour I would think. Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/01/2012 21:14

camel - if under a local then that seems less traumatic I'd think..
holsten well done for getting through the scan - fainting isn't nice - I am very prone to it. Will be thinking of you.
