Could I just ask - how many times have your children vomited in the past 12 months?

Not including babies obviously

I'm beginning to think my kids are weird!

Sooooo..... do we think some kids are predisposed to being of the vomity sort?

Mine dds have only vomited once each in their lives (they are 8 and 7). Not intended as a boast, just an observation!! They were both sicky babies, as is ds, so no link there.

I was never a "sicky" child and neither was dh (he just told me he never learnt to puke until he got pissed ) - I wonder if that has a bearing?

Sympathies to the multiple vomit households - must be vile.

once in the last 12 months for dd1 whos 5, def tummy bug, just lasted a few days and only sick 3 or 4 times over two of the days.

dd2 once in the last 12 months. still a baby, 10 months and I think she had the same as dd1 at the same time and threw up properly, not posseting, once and was off her food.

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 11/01/2006 20:47

Colin never has, and I could count the amount of times he spit up as a baby on one hand.

Elibean · 11/01/2006 20:51

My sister and brother seemed (to me) to vomit several times per year as kids. Me, only twice ever. I had lots of sore throats, they had lots of sore tummies/heads - perhaps we all have constitutional 'weak' spots?! Plus luck, of course...

Caroline5 · 11/01/2006 21:00

dd1 (6) has only been sick about 3 times in her life, dd2 (4) makes herself slightly sick through crying, but has only been sick with a bug once in her life. They are bound to get a terrible sick bug now! I think dd2's pooing exploits make up for it though!

Marina · 11/01/2006 21:05

In the past 12 months:

ds (six) once - he was the King of Chunder as an older baby/toddler, but his tummy has settled right down

dd (two) once - yesterday morning all over dh

I know a lot of kids who puke all the time. Are yours non-vommers too then Miaou?

Miaou · 11/01/2006 21:11

Yes Marina (as in yes, they are non-vommers). The only time they did was one day in school. I was upstairs in the school flat having my lunch (I was classroom assistant) and one of the kids rushed upstairs shouting "Mrs Miaou! Mrs Miaou! Dd2 has just been sick and it's everywhere!" I just laughed while he went "No, really, she has!!" So I sauntered down the stairs to find dd2 standing in the middle of the classroom, dripping, with a large pool round her feet, with a very shocked expression on her face! I think she thought she had exploded

Dd1 followed suit about half an hour later

Aloha · 11/01/2006 21:33

Poor ds is now projectile vomiting bile

Bugsy2 · 11/01/2006 21:41

Not once in last 12 months & neither did that possety stuff either. Neither ex-H or I am vommers either though. In my adult life I have only been sick 8 times (I'm 36) and that includes having had salmonella properly diagnosed twice.
I definitely think some people are more prone to vomming than others. Don't think it is something you have much control over, you either are or aren't a puker.

kleist · 11/01/2006 22:01

Dd, 3.3, hasn't yet vomited ever apart from a bit when coughing a lot during asthma attacks. Touching wood like a maniac as I type.

grammaticus · 11/01/2006 22:08

I think some are vommers and some are not. I had an extraordinarily sicky baby who is nearly 7yrs and only sick once since 12months old. Other baby less sicky and again sick only twice since, both times gave the bug to me lol.

poptot · 11/01/2006 22:21

Lost count with dd 6 had reflux as a baby up until about 2yrs, has had to be admitted due to D&V being so bad she collapsed and had to have IV fluids. Seems to vomit with every cough and cold and picks up tummy bugs very easily. Other than thta she is shockingly healthy. Ds 2 on the other hand does not let go of bodily fluids on a voluntary basis ( chronically constipated) and his contribution to the recent bug that had the whole family floored was one small vomit whilst shouting no sick Mummy no sick and two poos in the same day!!!!

PrincessPeaHead · 11/01/2006 22:45

None. mine 7 5 and 2.

They just don't vomit. My dd has vomited 2ce in her seven year life.

But they also didn't burp as babies and got through buckets of infacol - I think they have v good gastric sphincters!

Now if you asked how many times they had runny bottoms.....

Tortington · 11/01/2006 23:09

my girl is always sick

my boys arnt
i am always sick
my dh isn't

i think i vomit more than anyone but my dd is a close second

bundle · 11/01/2006 23:10

once, maybe twice. when it's in the middle of the night and I can't get to the bathroom with them, I aim them at me....

suedonim · 12/01/2006 00:14

And again just now, on the carpet this time.

I do think some people are more prone to vomiting than others. Dd1 has hardly ever been sick. The first time was when she was about 3 or 4yrs old and said her tummy was 'laughing' then promptly threw up. Dh is probably sick once every 15yrs or so while I have vomited in all sorts of places. A particular friend is also v non-vomiting - on the rare occasions she's been sick she's carried on eating until seconds before the event and then carries on eating after as if nothing has happened.

Janh · 12/01/2006 00:20

Agree that some do and some don't. DD1 has hardly ever vomited in her entire life and she is 23 now (drunken binges not excepted!) whereas DD2 is 20 and still throws up at the drop of a hat. DH does, I don't. DS1 and DS2 both don't, much, although DS2 does more - but when he was little there was never any warning, he used to say his tummy hurt and then whooomph . Lovely.

Calmriver · 12/01/2006 08:49

Had horrible tummy bug over christmas and a few weeks before. DD 16 months, threw up 6 times in 5 hrs(first bug) and 6 times on Christmas morning-all by 10am. I got it too, and man,!!!!it's nasty!

CaptainDippy · 12/01/2006 09:40

My DD1 (2) has only vomited three times in her little life - once she puked up an entire feed all over our bed when she was about three days old - It stank!!!!! As an older child she was violently sick all over me on a train, fortunately I was travelling back home - It was in March last year, just after her MMR - She had only had milk and yogurt to eat all day - you can imagine the smell - tmi!!!!! Ruined my best wool coat!! Then she threw up horrendeously when she had pneumonia last May (I bought tiny DD2 home from hospital after a week in SCBU - DD1 promptly got chicken pox followed by pneumonia - back into hospital again! - madness!!) I am sure your children are not weird Miaou - well - not weirder than most children anyway!!
