here we go !

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 10/10/2011 21:34

just in time topsy -there's a drop or two left Grin

DeeScent - the tattoos are just a quick sting then done - nothing to worry about (they do 3 little dots - at least that's what I had)

KurriKurri · 10/10/2011 21:36

xposted jane, , Smile

janechocchip · 10/10/2011 21:39

bottoms up (I think you will find that MINE is the lardiest...)

Iamseeingstars · 10/10/2011 22:02

Radiation. Have any of you been told that you will not be able to go in the sun again? Apparantly any area that has had radiation will burn extremely quickly and you will always have to cover up. I was really shocked when I was told this. I live in a hot sunny country

topsyturner · 10/10/2011 22:03

You do realise that 1 more glass of wine and I will prove I have the lardiest arse on mumsnet ...

topsyturner · 10/10/2011 22:05

stars - I was told that the chemo would make my skin more prone to burning in the sun . And I must admit , pre chemo , I had awful psoarisis . And now I have none at all !
Chemo = wonder drug Grin

Iamseeingstars · 10/10/2011 22:06

I cant believe how busy this forum has been today. Nice to see everyone busy. Lots going on

janechocchip · 10/10/2011 22:21

i already burn really quickly in the sun but i dont think the rads will make much difference as i won't begoing topless in the future. different if having rads on a different area but the. benefit of the treatment is probably worth covering up in the future. i do try and cover up anyway as my gran and dad both had skin cancers.

DeeScent · 10/10/2011 22:29

Good news about tattoos being virtually painless.

Figgyroll · 10/10/2011 22:33

Hello all, what a shame - too late for the Wine. Never mind, I had a Pimms earlier Grin.

I was warned about the sun too and told to cover up or use the strongest factor sun cream. That doesn't bother me too much tbh. A small price to pay if the treatment does it's job.

As for the tattoos, I had 4 and the 4th one hurt quite a bit but I think the lady was a bit rough - I'll never understand how anyone can have a proper tattoo. But then, I'm a cowardy custard.

I broke the linear accelerator today. Shock Was half way through radiotherapy when it conked out and was stuck. They couldn't fix it but I couldn't get off for ages as the machine was right above my head. They eventually said I could move my arm as it had gone numb and I was able to get off. I ended up finishing the session on the machine next door so I was there for 2 hours today. I hope they get it fixed - I'm on there tomorrow at 4.

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/10/2011 22:37

bah- missed the wine ....
I had the wire guide like amber, with much too-ing and fro-ing to mammogram, then nuclear medicine with the wire sticking out of me to have the not very nice radioactive thing...but the wire guide didn't hurt...it's just uncomfortable and undignified. Tattoos were painless- though they probably won't have much street cred, being so tiny !!
I was told that about the sun- just wise to keep your chest out of it in future- who wants a crepey decolletage anyway Grin
Good news that things are moving on amber (and your fab new wig is wonderful btw) but sorry too that you aren't getting a break -still,it'll soon be over.

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/10/2011 22:42

oh poor figgy !
btw- telling FIL - I'd do as KK suggests..tell him afterwards and explain about not wanting to spoil his holiday. I always think my parents keep things from me- one Christmas they didn't tell me that my dog had been injured by a sharp stick, when I was pregnant they didn't tell me that my dad had got a huge rusty nail in his foot ! and actually they didn't tell me that SIL had a lump until months later when she eventually got her appointment at the breast clinic (4 months or so later- they didn't think it'd be serious as she was very young).
Mind you, I don't tell them lots of things !

OP posts:
DeeScent · 10/10/2011 22:58

MAS, instinctively I would wait to tell FIL, but as a family we have history of getting severely and unfairly told off about keeping bad news from them.

They were quite offended even though we did it in their best interests when they were recovering from serious illness.

As I say, can't really win here...

Just hope I'm allowed to bung in the painkillers for the mammo on operation day [hopeful] and get offered more painkillers than topsy afterwards. I don't do pain very well.

Iamseeingstars · 10/10/2011 23:11

I did tell my brother when he was on holiday and it ruined the rest of his holiday and he was quite traumatised and angry. I felt guilty afterwards because he really needed the break and had been enjoying himself beforehand.

It is a tough call and only you can decide what is best.
May be say you want him to have this holiday and really enjoy himself and that you will all plan together how to move forwards afterwards.

janechocchip · 11/10/2011 07:21

morning all.
Ow at figgy's numb arm. hope the sessiongoes better today. Must get up and make a cake. Hope cat turns up today :(

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/10/2011 07:37

yes,can see your dilemma DeeScent - if you tell him then perhaps make it really positive -stuff we've said on here about bc being really treatable etc..

cake at 7 ish ? mmm-
Today is mufti day at school- will see if the boy wears his Hollister hoody Grin

OP posts:
topsyturner · 11/10/2011 08:21

Cat still not back jane ? Dirty stop out ! Hope kitty reappears soon .

Still crappy rain here . Horrible stuff .
One DC out the door , one more to go .

I have woken up with horrendous tooth ache . Its a tooth that I have been hanging onto for years , been root treated , filled , crowned etc . It was the unfortunate product of a clash with an enthusiastic PE teacher and a hockey stick !
Every so often it flairs up , I take anti bs , it quietens back down again .
Anyone had dental treatment on chemo ? I was warned it's not really advisable . (I really should know these things as I was a dental nurse in my previous life !)

Ah well , time to get DD out the door , will be back later Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/10/2011 08:48

I think not advisable, but if it's infected then that's probably not good either...ow.

OP posts:
cakesandale · 11/10/2011 09:46

Topsy - dental treatment is to be avoided but if necessary they will do the least invasive thing possible. They might also send you to the hospital to have it done. Take care. x

So much going on here and i am too busy to keep up. Sorry. But love to all, and I'll be back later in the week.

x

KurriKurri · 11/10/2011 10:02

ouch about the toothache topsy Sad - I broke two teeth on chemo, and the dentist just temporary filled them until I'd finished, - no injections or anything invasive. Then I had them crowned afterwards. - But if you've got an infection, and are in pain, I'd definitely ask about it, you don't want to put up with that.

No cat yet jane? - hope he turns up today, - could you stick flyers through people's doors to get them to look out for him?

Figgy I hope rads goes better today, it's a pain when something breaks down,(although IME it seem to happen quite frequently!) and sounds pretty uncomfortable if you had to keep your arm in position Shock

Just got back from hospital - blood test for my endocrinology appointment next week. - no bruises this time though Smile

It is DH's birthday today, - large vet bills mean he's not getting much (new work trousers and a card with a lottery ticket in it!) but I'll make him a cake and we have another bottle of homemade stout in the fridge. - What more do you need for a party? There are now 2 months when he is the same age as me (51) then I am older again Grin

janechocchip · 11/10/2011 10:12

happy birthday to kk's dh the lottery ticket is a nice touch. cat still not back but cake made and now looking forward to friend from work coming with dd cue quick tidy up shove dust under rug:(

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/10/2011 11:24

Mr KK is v good at winning things ! Happy Birthday to him ! I'm sometimes 6 years older than dh,then 7 Grin
Hope cat comes home soon jane - what kind of cake? can we have a bit ?....

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 11/10/2011 11:33

coffee and walnut cake, - I'll make a big one so there's enough to go round Grin

Did I say that he won a luxury hamper of Gu puddings a couple of weeks ago?, - they are arriving next week, can't wait!

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/10/2011 13:10

clever Mr KK ! ..and you know that coffee and walnut is my favourite...

OP posts:
smee · 11/10/2011 13:26

Too much posting!! Though excellent to see you're all still here and talking about cake. Grin Honestly, I can't even attempt to keep up and have to dash out in a bit.

I have been lard arsing around trying not to feel sick (me and GA's really don't mix), but am so much better today. Off to see Surgeon in a bit for her to examine her handy work and hopefully take those delectable drains we all love so much out. I have an urge to ask if my implants will make me more buoyant when I swim. Go on, dare me. Grin

Got to run, but a big Happy Birthday to MrK !! Tell him we need some of his lottery winnings. Smile
