Great to hear Topsy. Talk about tense. Didnt do my heart palpatations any good whatsover. So so glad it is over and really pleased NZ won

topsyturner · 23/10/2011 11:40

Open fire kk . Nearly every house over here has one .
But we also have to put up with oil fired central heating systems . The mains gas systems only seems to be an option if you live on a main road .

I do love my real fires though . And pig/dog is especially fond of them . Apart from last night as he got a bit too close and toasted his butt cheeks a little Grin

KurriKurri · 23/10/2011 12:17

Grin at pig dog, mine will lie against the radiator until she starts to smell like roast pork, - then we move her (not enough brain to shift herself)

We are also oil fired CH - no gas in rural areas here - our tank leaked last year - what a mess!! - but fortunately it was still just under guarantee.

MY mum has discovered she has cats living in her garage, - they've no car, so my sister had stored some old furniture in there (armchairs etc.) and a couple of cats have moved in, no idea who they belong to, - it reminded me of jane's missing cat, but they can get in and out of the garage.

l4k · 23/10/2011 12:19

think my dh loves his log burner more than me!
could anyone tell me,have youheard of anyone getting such a negetive reaction from the radiographer/mammogram and still turned out to be ok?
feeling very numb and anxious about tommorrow
hope you are all having a good day x

butterfliesinmytummy · 23/10/2011 12:39

I miss my log burner (used to live NE Scotland and boy did we need it). Over here, we're on air conditioning... Just been trick or treating with the kids - our condo did ours a week early and there are about 30 kids here so lots of running about brandishing bags of high fructose corn syrup.... Ah well, have as many sweets as we started with, just different ones - now got to get the kids to sleep!!

Hope all your days with no appointments are going well. I am meeting with the radiographer tomorrow to discuss the wire guided biopsy and with the consultant's team to get my do's and don't's for Thursday's surgical biopsy. I can't remember why I need to see the radiographer now - anyone know? Had a dream that they would put the wires in tomorrow for Thursday's procedure but that can't be right? Need to speak to my friend to see if she can take care of DD1 after school on Thursday (DD2 will stay late at nursery). Didn't want to tell my friend but can't see that I have a choice (but will try to make it sound like something really normal)...

Have a good afternoon all x

smee · 23/10/2011 12:53

l4k, yes you can have them 'find something of concern', then it turns out to be nothing to worry about, but if they're saying there's something, then obviously you need to know what. Hard to wait I know. Will be rooting for you tomorrow. What time is your appointment?

Am mighty jealous of the real fires. We have two fireplaces, but they're bricked up.

Kurri, I remember your oil tank leaking. Hope it doesn't do similar this year. I read that bit about the cats, as it being the cats having no car. Grin

MAS, if you've time, how about heading to the Tacita Dean installation in the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern? Haven't seen it yet, but it's supposed to be amazing.

Just dropped DS at a party - his friend lives in a flat with no garden, so they've lucked out with the weather as it's lovely in London today. Left them playing out front as the estate has a play area. I ran back to do some work, so had better get on...

smee · 23/10/2011 12:53

Mean to say, but 'Topsy, I love you too.' Grin

smee · 23/10/2011 12:55

x-posted with you Butterflies. Hope tomorrow goes really well and you get answers to all of your questions. I'd imagine the Radiographer is needed for them to sort out exactly where the wires will go? Hope the sugar rush didn't stop the kids going to sleep. Smile

janechocchip · 23/10/2011 13:54

Mmmm log burner! First winter in this house. We are having chimney swept tomorrow but I am trying to persuade dh to have log burner as more efficient. I suspect the fire will still blow back after the sweep as we are bungalow between two houses... Thinking about butterflies and 14k. +ve vibes for tomorrow.

Cat being very naughty here. Pulling at edge of rug and also staring at the goldfish...

smee · 23/10/2011 13:59

Hope goldfish survives, Jane. Ours came in this morning with a dead mouse and a load of feathers. DS thinks the mouse was using the feathers to fly off to escape. Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/10/2011 14:25

hello ! I'd love a log burner,my parents had one put in last autumn and it throws out so much heat -it's almost too hot. We have open fireplaces in every room but don't use them -I could cope with a log burner as it's all enclosed, but real fires scare me.
I remember oil tank leak too KK !
I think the wire guides can go in a day before surgery, wouldn't imagine them doing it much before then, not very practical.
smee Dh has taken against Tate Modern- he finds it depressing,so I guess he won't want to venture there !
The Grayson Perry one will have his motorbike with his teddy bear's little travelling case on it-with the guest stunt bears taking their turns in it.
14k lots of good thoughts for tomorrow x

< Soaks up smees love and adoration > Grin

Half an hour till party time , we have a DD who is beyond excited .

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/10/2011 15:34

Hello: Pinkstarlght and Jane - re hotflushes, or PMT, I found a website on Vogues beauty blog pages - search: breast cancer awareness I think its named physic aromatherapy or something like that, and theres some comment under the picture which is interesting as one of them mentions something they bought for PMT and what effect it had on her/them.

Forpitysake : yup, been there GTTS. Breast Cancer and more...Had a lumpectomy, mastectomy, and rebuild job. Only time I was a bit 'down' was when I managed to get an infection after the lumpectomy. A tiny bit of advise girls. If, anyone gets the smell of rotting seaweed coming from the wound, go see your Doc. pronto.

Apart from that nuisance, which it was, mastectomy was alright, so was the re-build. But as I had a silicone implant, the end result (and you are warned about this), whilst very acceptable, and it does certainly makes you feel feminine again, which had sortof been bothering me, I'd NOW never qualify as a page 3 girl. yeah well !!!

All in all I'm just glad to be here and frequently say my thankyous to Him Upstairs, no dis-respect I promise, and am just so grateful. Lastly, and probably most importantly I had a truly truly supportive family, particularly our youngest son who if he had his way wouldn't let me lift a feather.

So my honey-buns, all of you, stay with it, AND even tho' it may be difficult and worrying at times try to keep smiling..it really really helps, and remember as topsyturner said 'theres always someone on Mumsnet who'll listen.

Love and Big-Bear-Hugs to all who are going through this.

Driftwood999 · 23/10/2011 18:05

'Tis the season of the log burner! We have a good stash of wood but we have not replenished this year, take your eye of it and it just goes. I've been getting through a bit in the last week, it's been comforting. Today i had a lovely outing with dh to a newly discovered bit of woodland, backed the car up, had a lovely short walk with saw in hand! and got busy. (only fallen timber obs) A good haul, so much better when it's free and it really warmed us up! Feel quite positive today but the nights are a different matter. Good luck with appointments this week eveyone, this forum is really helping me with info, comfort and signposting. X

janechocchip · 23/10/2011 18:32

Drift- do you have permission from the owner? Sometimes fallen timber is left as part of a biodiversity action plan and in any event it belongs to the landowner...

janechocchip · 23/10/2011 19:13

Off soon to meet my cousin at Manchester Airport. Flight due to leave Heathrow at 9.30pm arriving at 10.35 Hope she makes the connection ok! I don't want to cut it too fine.. Don't fancy not having an hours rest at Manchester.

Driftwood999 · 23/10/2011 19:54

I fully understand your point janechocchip, it's a bit of common land and frankly a few fallen boughs will not be missed, it is not being denuded. Thank god that we still have parts of merry england that do not have bylaws in your face and where a little bit of local knowledge and common sense is applied.

amberlight · 23/10/2011 20:41

'evening all. Back from Yorkshire with dh after a very relaxing week and a very long drive back.
Been scared witless by consultant letter that showed my heart function rate ready for herceptin this Tuesday. I wish they'd explain what the figures mean rather than just stating them. Seems (from long googling) that my heart is actually ok. Phew. 63% EF.

pinkstarlight · 23/10/2011 21:20

14k...just wanted to wish you luck for tomorrow shall be thinking of you.

smee · 23/10/2011 21:40

Hello Amber !! Not surprised you got all anxty. I'd have googled too. Did you have a most excellent holiday? Hope you got a bit of sun amidst the log fires.

Just wanted to wish Butterflies a good appointment and huge amounts of positive thoughts for l4K tomorrow. Positive vibes coming your way from me x

l4k · 23/10/2011 21:40

thanks to everyone for the good wishes,I've actually had a nice day.Was dd1 's birthday and we went out for lunch with my parents and my brother and his family who we haven't seen for a while.

Have just done my hair with headrin or whatever its called and as suspected I had one massive headlice.Found dd2's batch of 8 or so yesterday and after I had sorted her hair out I started itching!!
Glad to be rid of that before tomorrow, can you imagine trying to keep still for the biopsy with that crawling around!
I have been taking 1 herbal sominex to help me sleep but I think I'll take 2 tonight.
Appointment at 12pm so I'll let you know how I get on.
Is there anything I should be asking them in particular? Will they be able to tell me any more do you think?
Sorry this is so long and all about meBlush
Its hard to remember where everyone is on thier journey.
Hope things go well for butterflies too x

KurriKurri · 23/10/2011 21:47

Loads of good vibes for tomorrow from me too, 14k and butterflies.

Will be thinking of you both. Smile

topsyturner · 23/10/2011 22:04

14k unless it's a one stop clinic , they are unlikely to be able to give you any info unfortunately .
Maybe ask them when you can expect results by ?
I am at hossie at 11.20 myself , so will be sending you positive thoughts from their . (only pre chemo bloods , so nowt to get excited about)

smee guess what ? Found and ordered my faux fur coat this evening so you can stop looking ! Got a grey , just above the knee one from Tesco of all places . Got 25% off and double points too . When it gets delivered I hope I like it !

Won my dress from ebay . Lost my purple shoes .
Ah well , there will always be more opportunities to buy shoes Grin

Hope everyone gets a good nights sleep , and all appoinments go smoothly tomorrow .

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/10/2011 22:23

welcome back amber and hooray that heart is ok for herceptin- good researching !
Hope you feel less grumpy soon pink - it's all just very emotionally churning I think, and afterwards you might feel quite down -this often happens after active treatment ends.
