here we go !

OP posts:
janechocchip · 22/10/2011 12:21

Stars- sorry to hear you are having a rough time.

Topsy - enjoy your leopard shoes :)

Sunny here. Just dropped dh at work. Now for a swim and then visit Aunty on stroke ward and collect dh at 4. Could happily sleep all afternoon so don't think I'm going to swim far today... Just filling in time really rather than driving home and back!

Driftwood999 · 22/10/2011 13:54

Stars - that does not sound good and definitely not right. Would it be an idea to make a note of your impressions and then contact PALS? (Patient Advice and Liaison Services) or even better get someone else to do it on your behalf. There no. will be on the boards or ask at reception. Could you delegate this to someone? I would be railing!

Driftwood999 · 22/10/2011 14:01

I was trying to give a link to PALs but have given up, sorry, if you google PALS it will be at the top and the complaint's procedure is prominant!! Go on, at least embarrass them!

smee · 22/10/2011 14:46

Stars, poor you. I hope they sort whatever's confusing them soon. Drift's idea about PALS is a good one. Be good for you to have someone to talk it all through with. I think ward staff are a lottery. I've been in a few times, and have been very lucky as staff have all been lovely so far. Just the odd grumpy one, but nothing too dire.

dee, I was pre-menopausal (dx when 44) and they do give Tamoxifen. Chemo knocked my periods for six, so I think I'm menopausal now . My Onc said they might shift me from Tamoxifen to something else in a couple of years if I'm through it. If it is in nodes, I'd imagine they will recommend chemo. What I was told is that they tend to throw everything at younger women, as the cancer tends to be more aggressive pre-menopause.

l4k, hope you're okay. Waiting's really the hardest part. I was like Topsy, so had my FNB results same day which confirmed the cancer, but core biopsy took a week. My DH tends towards stoicism too. He finds knowledge helpful, so I tend to print things off from the internet to explain the science behind it all. He seems to gain most by me using him as a sounding board for me to talk it all through - helps me massively too to have someone who is as aware of my treatment as I am. We also have a bit of a tradition of drinking a nice bottle of wine or champagne after every big appointment. Was very, very helpful as it gave us time just to sit and talk.

Topsy, fab, fab shoe choice. Grin

Kurri, am Envy of Holkham. I adore that beach.

Post is already a bit epic, so am waving to all others, and especially to SR. Nice to see you here. Smile

I had my first post op shower this morning. Was lovely. Smile

l4k · 22/10/2011 15:16

thanks smee,I bet that shower was blissfulSmile

smee · 22/10/2011 18:13

I'm building up to a deep, bubble filled bath, but think I'd better wait another few days for that. Smile

topsyturner · 22/10/2011 18:37

Someone stop me , am now bidding on some purple ones and some blue ones ...

smee · 22/10/2011 19:32

Ah Topsy, you need the purple, but maybe not the blue? Life is all about compromise after all.. Grin

KurriKurri · 22/10/2011 19:47

Stars you are going through a tough time, hope they get to the root of the bleeding problem soon. I'm sorry you are having difficulties with the hospitals staff, - you really don't need that Sad Sending you much love xx

jane, I hope your aunty is making some progress, and you enjoyed your swim.

topsy - get you with your leopard skin shoes Grin - go for those purple and blue ones, you know you need them!!

Smee - The waiting will be worth it, that bubble bath will be the best ever Smile

It is so cold here, - not sure whether weather is going to allow Holkham tomorrow, but fingers crossed.

I am now the proud owner of 8 new fish, two goldies, 3 shubunkins, and 3 ghost carp. We had fun Hmm catching them, (messing around in a pond in a biting sea wind). But a good day at DS and his DP's house, - lovely soup too Grin And they've lent us The Kings Speech on DVD, so looking forward to watching that. (also good job we weren't at home because a pipe burst in the street and the water was off all day!)

Hope a good day was had by all, waving at everyone

topsyturner · 22/10/2011 20:03

Smee !!! How can you say I must compromise about shoes ??? Grin

kk sounds like a good day . And thankyou for the "shoe enabling" . I am a complete shoe slut . I luuurve shoes , they are my reason for living Grin

I made lamb cutlets and veggie rice for dinner tonight . Was yummy . Am washing it down with a glass or 3 of Wine . Anyone want a glass ?

I was out round the shops earlier , looking for a little bit of faux fur jacketry .
I have definitely embraced the "life is too short" theory as far as fashion goes ! Fancy myself in a purple faux fur jacket this winter , so if anyone spots one in large lady size please let me know .

Figgyroll · 22/10/2011 20:26

Evening everyone. Jealous of your Wine Topsy. I've gorn right off it at the moment, tastes foul. My sense of smell never did come back and my taste is very hit and miss. For some reason wine tastes like vinegar (and no, it's not the cheap stuff before you say anything Grin). All the more for DH, that's what he says. Good luck on the shoe bidding. I had a clear out of clothes today and was ruthless - anything I haven't worn this year has gone in a bag for the charity shop and to say my wardrobes are bare is an understatement. I dare say I will just have to hit the shops in the next few days. I wish I could wear heels though - all my shoes are very sensible. Sad

Stars, I'm so sorry to hear you're having a tough time at the moment. I hope the doctors fidn out what's causing the bleeding and have some answers for you soon. I had three stays on the cancer ward when I was going through chemo and was in isolation each time so I wouldn't catch germs. It wasn't a pleasant experience but I was lucky because the staff really were angels and it made all the difference. Maybe a talk with someone at PALS who might then have a discreet word with the ward manager, might do the trick. It's worth a go.

Smee, I haven't had a bath since my mx. Well that's a lie, actually. I had one too soon after my mx and couldn't get out which scared the hell out of me (think 'beached whale' here). I am sooo looking forward to one in a few weeks when my skin settles down.

KK, yayy on new fishy acquisitions. Enjoy Kings Speech later. It's a cracking film.

DS1 and DS2 had fab birthdays - DS2 is out bowling and having a chinese with a couple of his mates and should be home soon. His celebrations seem to have gone forever (3 days but you know what I mean). Well it was his 21st. Grin

Waves to everyone and wishing you all a happy weekend xxxx

KurriKurri · 22/10/2011 20:37

Oh Figgy - poor you- I did the stuck in the bath thing during my treatment, it's horrible, - I was starting to plan how I could be comfortable if I had to sleep in there. Grin

Happy birthdays to your boys, - especially the chap with the key of the door Smile

smee · 22/10/2011 20:45

Happy Birthday to your boys from me too, Figgy. Smile Your turn in the suds will come. I don't blame you for being cautious - I was too after Rads. Don't despair over your sense of smell/ taste. Mine took an age, but about 4 months after chemo had finished I felt like it was back to normal. How are you feeling apart from that? HOpe not too exhausted. Are you on half term? i'd bet that'll help.

Kurri, that's a lot of fish ! I was going to make soup earlier and failed, but maybe tomorrow. Hope you get to Holkham.

Topsy, apologies. I will redeem myself, by trying to source you a faux fur jacket in purple. Grin

I am working - have a Monday deadline, so am stuck at the keyboard. G'ah. Am pondering whether a glass of wine will help or hinder..

topsyturner · 22/10/2011 21:17

A very happy birthday to your boys figgy .

Smee if you manage to find me a purple faux fur jacket (in fat bird size) I will love you forever !
Aand yes I do think a glass of wine would help (not just because I feel like the only drunk in the village Grin )

pinkstarlight · 22/10/2011 21:17

stars.. shame on those nurses i was pretty shocked at some of the nurses attitudes when i was in hospital,i hope you get sorted soon.

topsy... my hospital is in the middle of town which is bad news for my purse when i go for my rads appointment cant resist cheering myself up lol.

figgy...ha ha i also have the bath problem but now i have mastered a way of getting out by turning over and getting up on my knees, though i do resemble a whale in the process.i lost my taste during chemo everything tasted of acid or cardboard it did come back eventually but even now i still get iffy with some food and cant face it.

i still get occasional cuddles off my 3 but do miss the every day cuddles i use to get when they was younger.at least the dog is always up for a cuddle.

had a really lazy day spent most of it watching desperate housewives box set with dd1 who is home for the weekend and ds,dd2 has been out all day with friends so all in all been a nice relaxing day and just what i needed as tiredness from the rads is now starting to creep in even chewing food is hard work.

Figgyroll · 22/10/2011 21:25

Thank you for boys' birthday wishes.

Pinks, your day sounds lovely. I've had one like that too but watching recordings of Flog It, Antiques Roadshow and House in the Country. I only got showered and dressed at 3pm after boys had gone out and they're not home yet so will think I've been in jimjams and dressing gown all day as I'm back in them. Grin I tried the turning over technique but got wedged and knees nearly buckled with the weight - has me in stitches just thunking about it. Grin Grin

topsyturner · 22/10/2011 21:29

Hahahaha ! I also do the turn over and get on my knees approach to get out of the bath .
I am always terrified that Greenpeace are going to perform a "rescue mission" on me ...

pinkstarlight · 22/10/2011 21:38

glad to hear im not the only one who bangs and crashes to get out of the bath lol

smee · 22/10/2011 21:40

Grin at the bath stories.

Topsy, I need you to love me, so will go seek. Thanks for permission to grab some Wine. DH agrees with you and I can hear it pouring.

Night all x

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/10/2011 23:03

am I too late for Wine ?

Waves to figgy and sends birthday wishes to your boys.
We're planning our day in London on Monday - dh is off that day-of course much of it will be spent looking at buildings with ds,but also going to British Museum to see the Grayson Perry exhibition and I have a feeling we'll end up having Mexican food at Wahaca (margaritas !!)
Hope you get to Holkham KK and hope work went well smee.

morning all. Time for a Brew?

topsyturner · 23/10/2011 09:14

Morning

Yes please to the Brew jane . The usual bucket for me please .

Monday sounds like a good day mas . Is that the teddy bear display that Grayson Perry did ?

smee < whispers , I shall love you anyway > Grin

Off to Grannys (again) for lunch today . Then DD has a rock climbing party at 3.30 . Whilst she is there it's coffee and buns for us mums .
Then home for X-Factor results show .

Anyone watching the rugby ? I just witnessed the New Zealand Hakka (spelling ?) . It's a fabulous thing !

KurriKurri · 23/10/2011 10:17

yes please to Brew jane, toast all round everyone?

rock climbing party sounds good topsy, she'll enjoy that - you're DD has a beter social life than anyone I know Grin

We are watching the rugby, now there is no Scottish interest DH seems to be supporting France, so much shouting atm.

My fish are all still swimming in the pond, - no one floating on the surface, no one has flung themselves onto the lawn. One of the ghost carp is a big chap - our pond is a bit bigger than DS's so he might grow even more.

Hope everyone has a good day, weather is icy cold here, not sure whether I shall brave the beach or not [feeble emoticon]

topsyturner · 23/10/2011 10:56

New Zealand supporters in this house kk . So DH is now happilly ironing in the kitchen cos they have won !

Glad the fish have survived the night .

Tis a bit chilly and damp here . Note to self , pick up more fire logs today .

KurriKurri · 23/10/2011 11:20

We have Mr Sulk stomping around here Grin

Do you have an open fire, or a wood burner? (either way I'm, Envy)
