cakes..feel sorry for anyone who has a bad back those rad machines are not exactly comfy and i find they put you in some totally unatural positions which must be horrible if you have a bad back.

smee..ha ha at your dream..

driftwood...sorry cant help hope you find out everything you need to know, write down some questions i always find surgeons and consultants are always in a rush and sometimes that throws you.

imseeingstars..not surprised you hate hospitals i hope they work out whats going on quickly.

smee · 19/10/2011 20:13

iamseeing, you are having such a very hard time. I hope they can reassure you soon. Hating hospitals seems sane to me. Hope you'll be free of them before too long.

topsyturner · 19/10/2011 21:12

stars you are having such a rough trott of it aren't you . Hope the hospital can clear it all up for you .

smee the latest dream was DS school phoned me and told me that DSs maths homework was of such high standard , they were going to get him to sit a maths GCSE next week !
Also I dreamt that DS had dismantled the bed in his bedroom and was sleeping ontop of his desk .
And those are the only ones I can tell you of Blush

janechocchip · 19/10/2011 22:26

mother is convinced that walls in rehab place are running with water. Think the lighting has affected her eyes. Other than that she seems fairly sane and can remember what I told her on phone on sunday so surprised at how convinced she is of the water...

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/10/2011 22:58

+ve thoughts to drift for today. I know lack of vascular space invasion is good news. Ask lots of questions if they don't explain it all.

Stars. Hope your bloods are sorted soon.

Waves to everone else. Sorry could not keep up with this thread yesterday.

janechocchip · 20/10/2011 08:00

My cousin was drinking a special blend of fruit tea. Sometimes I avoid caffine if I have a headache... Brew with magic herbs coming your way topsy :)

topsyturner · 20/10/2011 08:18

drift candle being lit today for you , hope you get some answers .

Thanks jane , any biccies ?

janechocchip · 20/10/2011 08:38

OK. I admit it. I went to Acocks Green yesterday and after buying bulbs for the garden in Wilkco, I wandered up to Aldi and stocked up on dark chocolate. And dark chocolate butter biscuits that are more chocolate than biscuit... Opens second packet and hands round biscuits...

DeeScent · 20/10/2011 08:39

Morning everyone.

I seem to have a seroma that I've agreed with the BCN that I'm going to see if I can live with so it goes down naturally.

Any experience of this please ladies? It's peculiar but not distressing.

Had a good nights sleep and no more trauma about the wires. Feel quite good now in myself.

Thinking of you today, driftwood - hope it is all clearer about the way forward. It is do-able, step by step.

janechocchip · 20/10/2011 08:43

So what shall I do today? Missed lift to Heathrow so no London. Maybe clothes shopping in Birmingham or Solihull, a swim at Tudor Grange, do Mum's washing, visit Mum and hit Birmingham Art Gallery... Hmmm. Need a plan so I don't spend all day on the computer....

topsyturner · 20/10/2011 08:44

Oooh dark chocolate butter biscuits , don't mind if I do jane

Morning dee , didn't have a seroma myself but a few of the ladies did so I am sure one of them will advise you what to do .
I know draining was involved when it got too sloshy though .

Is it acceptable to have cheeselets for breakfast ?

BurningBright · 20/10/2011 08:45

Hi MAS - nice to see you too.

KK - thanks for the link to 'Keeping Abreast'. Will have alook at it later.

Smee - Waving back. Nice to see you. My reconstruction will be a DIEP flap one. Basically they will fashion the new breasts out of my tummy fat. Of which there is more than a sufficiency! So yes, different to implants. But in terms of the end result - i.e. restoration of body shape and the psychological benefits of feeling whole again, I guess there is some similarity.

Hope everyone is doing OK.

topsyturner · 20/10/2011 08:45

Votes for clothes shopping in Birmingham , and possibly a nice lunch out somewhere .

topsyturner · 20/10/2011 08:47

I also want to ask about reconstruction . I have my pre chemo appointment on Monday . Do I speak to the Onc about it ? Or do I need to ask for an appointment with the surgeon ?

janechocchip · 20/10/2011 08:50

Morning Dee

So you're sloshed? Sorry couldn't resist.

I didn't have a seroma as such but did have a swelling of fluid just below my sentinel node scar which reabsorbed on its own and had gone in a couple of weeks. I'm sure the seroma experienced ladies will advise.

DeeScent · 20/10/2011 09:01

Okay maybe it's just a welling of fluid below the sentinel scar then? Have only decribed it over the phone so a bit of guesswork going on. District nurse going to take a look later. Will try to avoid the aspiration if poss as might introduce infection.

My cheeselets are arriving later. Smile

janechocchip · 20/10/2011 09:31

Sure the district nurse will be able to advise. Enjoy those cheeselets :)

cakesandale · 20/10/2011 09:52

Dee - loads of us have had seromas, some (like me) had to resort to draining, which is painless at the time but can be sore the day after if the nurse is a bit over enthusiastic. Manageable, though. Others have just left them to see if they go down. If I were you, I'd leave it and see if it goes down naturally. I had mine drained 4 or 5 times and gave up eventually, leaving it to its own devices. It went down a bit but remained as a lump for some months (not visible to others). The surgeon said it would go by itself, and it did, very gradually. Sometimes, I think the draining encourages it to keep refilling.

I'l light a candle for you, Driftwood. x

Big cheer for KK's Mum's lottery win!

Jane - shopping in Solihull gets my vote, the traffic into Birmingham always puts me off big time. Although the gallery is a pull, I admit....

Love to all.

I think by the time I get back next week you may all be on Tamoxifen 15 - leave me a link, won't you? Smile

smee · 20/10/2011 10:06

Thinking of Drift too. Really hope she gets some clear answers to make her decision from.

Dee, maybe try v. gentle massage. I had a seroma and it did seem to help. Managed never to get mine aspirated, but my Surgeon's quite anti it because of infection risk. But other women seem to have it done with even a small swelling.

Jane, could you tell your mum that you've spoken to the carers and they've sorted the water. I remember my Grandmother used to be moveable if you sort of went with it iyswim. + i vote for the Art Gallery, as you're making me all nostalgic for my youth. I used to revise for A-levels in the Central library, then meander round the Pre Raphaelites for a break. Smile

Topsy, ask BCN about who you need to speak to - I'd imagine a Surgeon consult is what you're after though.

Burning, I thought that might be what you'd chosen. I remember you worrying before about the op/ G.A before. It's no small decision, but you were okay and you will be again. Not dismissing your fears, as I had them too, but it's hugely unlikely that you won't wake up. It's two weeks today since my op and I'm mostly good. I have very sore scars (+ no nipples for now!), but already I feel like it's an affirmation and a vote for moving on. There's something to be said for taking control and deciding to have something done, rather than it being forced on you. One thing I wasn't prepared for (because I'm v.dim!), was how intensely the op took me back to my first mx/ diagnosis. I had a few v.dark days afterwards where I was very scared, mostly because I had a message from the surgeon saying she'd like to see me a few days after the op, so I translated that into thinking she'd found more cancer. BCN was fantastic and sorted all paranoia, but it did really hit me, so watch out for that maybe.

MAS, hope the headaches waning. Cheeselets might help. Smile

DS walked to school in no coat today, as he's stoopidly stubborn and insisted he was right to lose his at school yesterday as it wasn't cold enough to wear one. He was blue by the time we arrived, but he still wouldn't put on the fleece I was carrying for him. Grin

janechocchip · 20/10/2011 10:23

Smee! I used to revisefor MY A levels in the central library and walk around the pre raphaelites for a break! And eat in the really grotty cafe inthere at the time. Nothing like the grand restaurant there now... Nostalgia trip is what this is...

smee · 20/10/2011 10:28

We must be the same person !! Grin What year then? I am 45, so mid 80's saw much mooching around there. Maybe we were there at the same time.
