hope you have found the brain switch topsy - think i'm not going to find mine again tonight. Hohum. Enjoy your holiday amber. Decided to go down to Brum and see mum at the end of the week as it will be difficult to fit a trip in during rads. So difficult to be in two places at once. ..

janechocchip · 17/10/2011 00:14

night night go easy on the joss sticks ;)

l4k · 17/10/2011 00:43

thanks for all the good wishes, just got to get through tomorrow and then have the appointment on tues.will let you know how I get on.Dh is going with me but now I'm worried we won't get back to pick kids up from school but I suppose I'll think of something if that happens.
This thread is so fast moving, you are all really good friends. Its lovely to see!!

butterfliesinmytummy · 17/10/2011 06:23

Hi all

I'm new to this thread but you are a brilliant bunch of very brave MNers! I went for my first routine mammogram and breast ultrasound last week - I'm 38 with a bad family history of breast cancer. I have a cyst in my left breast that they want me re-scanned for in 6 months and a "strange bit" (according to my gp) in the right side - picked up on mammogram but not ultrasound. I'm being referred to a specialist on Friday who will do a biopsy or some kind of aspiration. To say I'm nervous is an understatement and I haven't slept in days. I have 2 little girls and remember what my mum went through - crying writing this, can anyone help? To cap it all, I'm on holiday abroad til Thursday..... trying to stay positive....

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/10/2011 07:40

butterflies welcome - so sorry, can imagine how very anxious you must be feeling -this waiting bit is really the hardest but stick around with us and we'll see you through it. If anything worrying is found then be reassured that treatment is really effective and get through-able.. The biopsy is painless, maybe a bit uncomfortable with bruising but you'll have a local anaesthetic. There will be a breast care nurse there for you to talk to and they are generally totally lovely.

Oh yes, joss sticks- tried smoking those too (am non smoker since my days of french fags)- must've got it out of my system !

14k am glad dh will be there for you - is there anyone who could be on stand-by to collect your dcs ?

butterfliesinmytummy · 17/10/2011 07:46

Thanks MaryAnn, I feel silly as there is no diagnosis yet (especially as so many people seem to take this in their stride) but I guess it's normal to think the worst. I'm not in the UK and medical care here is efficient but very "cold" - the sonographer who did the ultrasound barely said 2 words to me - so might be needing you guys.

Meant to say, hope everyone has a good day.

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/10/2011 08:01

I think everyone on here felt as you do before any diagnosis - it's normal to feel anxious -it is scary ! In a way knowing what you are dealing with makes it a bit easier, the unknown messes with your mind. Sorry to hear that the staff are a bit cold -that can't help.

topsyturner · 17/10/2011 08:07

14k what time is your appointment ? Mine took about 3/4 hours in total at the one stop clinic .

butterflies Hi and welcome . Despite appearances , we don't always take it in our stride . We have all been down the same route as you and have all panicked and wailed and been terrified . So never feel like you are being silly .
Keep posting and we will help where we can , even if it's just hand holding .

Todays plans ?
Have already got DH and DS out of the house , just DD to go .
And then I am firmly planting myself on the sofa , with snacks and Brew and catching up on all the programmes I have recorded recently .

Does anyone have any hospital appointments today ? I know there are a few tomorrow . Any hand holding needed , I shall be here all day on the laptop .

amberlight · 17/10/2011 08:32

Hi 14k and butterflies! Welcome from me too. I'm right in the middle of treatment for bc, having had the sentinel node stuff, chemotherapy and surgery...and now getting radiotherapy and herceptin in the next weeks. It's doable. Like I say sometimes on here a) don't google unless you're an expert as you'll frighten the living whatsits out of yourself for no good reason (the info is mostly rubbish) and b) 8 out of 10 of us have a good long term outcome these days. Not perfect odds, but pretty good.

There's no wifi where we're going but we're next to a hill with a mast on it, so signal for dongling and phone access should be ok (even if I have to climb the hill/stand on the roof/hang out of a window (done all these in the past elsewhere!!). Mumsnet on my ancient Nokia takes half hour to load, otherwise Hmm

butterfliesinmytummy · 17/10/2011 08:40

Topsy enjoy your TV catch up, have a relaxing day
Amberlight, sounds like you've been through lots but you're upbeat. Not googling (although have googled breast cancer diet plan as my diet is rubbish anyway - aware that if I need such a plan, broccoli is probably the last thing I'll want to eat)

Thanks for such a great welcome ladies, feeling a bit better.

KurriKurri · 17/10/2011 09:03

Hi there butterflies, another welcome here Smile - and also sorry you are going through this. I definitely didn't take it in my stride, - and I don't think many people do, - so don't beat yourself up that you are finding it hard. The waiting for tests and results is very tough. And please do come on and chat or ask questions, especially if you don't feel you are getting everything you should be from the health care professionals.

I echo what everyone says, you have good odds of it being nothing to worry about, and if it is something, goods odds of doing well after treatment. - I'm 3yrs on from DX, and had the whole gamut of treatment, but feeling pretty well now, as amber says, - its doableSmile

Regarding diet - all sorts of berries are supposed to be good - and they are a bit more user-friendly than broccoli Grin

14k - good morning, hope you are feeling OK today, - the ladies on here are a great bunch, and very supportive, - everyone going through this scary business very welcome Smile

joss sticks brings back memories (not to mention those afghan coats - like wearing a dead animal on your back!) MAS, - I'm glad I wasn't the only one smoking home made tobaccoless roll ups, - I graduated onto furtively puffing on Players No 6 provided by my then boyfriend Grin

topsy - telly and snacks sounds pretty good to me, - what have you got to watch?

amber have fun, - hope you get decent weather and have a really good break, you deserve it Smile

Its freezing here, I'm just about to make porridge, anyone fancy a bowl?

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/10/2011 09:09

topsy- your day sounds very nice- am off into the chill (though it's beautifully sunny) and driving to Basingstoke to meet my bc friend Karen to collect the cards I designed for the Pink Place and to have coffee and croissants a catch up, then off to Build a Bear for bear bed for DN and school shirt finding for ds.

topsyturner · 17/10/2011 09:27

Am watching an episode of Law and Order right now . How I wish I could tell you I was watching something knowledgable , but no . After this I have Modern Family !

Even better , I have just had a bowl of coco pops for my breakfast Grin

janechocchip · 17/10/2011 09:41

Hi butterflies. The lovely people on here have been most patient with my ramblings this month - waiting and not knowing is the worst.

janechocchip · 17/10/2011 09:48

Didn't sleep much at all. internet has been intermittent since thursday and virginare not promising to fix itanytime soon. Haveput sim into viewpad to surf web but a pain because using email a lot with two of my cousins abroad and that is set up on the desktop.

janechocchip · 17/10/2011 09:54

Mmmm porridge what a good idea. Took the bike out to see the sunrise by the canal. With not working I don't use the camera as much and the batteries gave out waah. Nice ride through the woods. One day I will work out how to getphotos out of phone...

DeeScent · 17/10/2011 10:14

Hi butterflies this is absolutely the place to chat and ask questions. Agree that the not knowing can be very fraught. I'm having an op tomorrow then radiotherapy. It amazing how in the space of a couple of weeks you can come to terms with the problem and day by day move forward in the treatment. Yhere's lots they can do for you.

Off to the hospital soon for the sentinel scan. Looking forward to the early halloween pallor and blue wee (makes a change from red Wink )

I've been looking at cancer diets and sadly there's no mention of Cheeselets or Lindt chocolate

janechocchip · 17/10/2011 10:24

:) Dee - we all need our antioxidants but chocolate is food for the soul and recommended (in moderation) thinking of you tomorrow with your blue wee :)

DeeScent · 17/10/2011 10:28

Oh, I agree ! Blue wee today, op tomorrow, Cheeselets'n'choc Wednesday!

janechocchip · 17/10/2011 10:43

I thought you would only get the blue wee after the op. Isn't it to from dye to help the surgeon see the nodes. I may be wrong. I had my scan on same day as op... Don't worry about the scan, ask them if you get the blue wee today or tomorrow!

DeeScent · 17/10/2011 11:04

You could be right...it's all a bit of a blur...my dh keeps trying to explain the sequence but I think part of my brain is in denial!

butterfliesinmytummy · 17/10/2011 11:53

Thanks everyone again - good luck tomorrow Dee

DeeScent · 17/10/2011 12:14

Back from the injections - a walk in the park compared with the biopsy - not even as bad as the dentist. Smile

I am now glowing with health radioactivity and will stay away form the hamster in case I frighten her.

Lovely and sunny here...

KurriKurri · 17/10/2011 12:27

Good to get that out of the way Dee.

I am waiting for the BCN to ring me to discuss reconstruction and organize an appointment for me to see the surgeon. I feel strangely nervous, not sure why Confused
