Ooh sounds yummy, cream or custard? both please, - just a little cream please Dee Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/10/2011 16:03

custard,please...yum
14k - poor you having to go through this anxiety - we are always here for any hand holding required- will be thinking of you on Tuesday.
smee- didn't know that your dh taught fine art Smile
I can recommend a foundation year as a brilliant way of deciding which direction to go in- my friend's dd is doing one at our local college. One of my best friends lectures on illustration (portfolios and how to get work etc) at various art schools around the country- could ask her for recommendations if you liked. I enjoyed my year though was quite intimidated by the talent and the size of the year-sometimes it's hard coming from a 6th form where you are top in art to being one of many Grin

dh is quite a good cook so hopefully I will be well-fed while I milk the sympathy am post-operative Grin

smee · 16/10/2011 16:31

Forget the crumble Dee, just send over your husband. What d'you mean, no?! Grin He sounds like a useful other half to have. My DH is an okay cook, but he does that v.male thing of cooking just the same few things time and time again. Shouldn't really moan, as he's been so v.lovely through all this. Smile

topsyturner · 16/10/2011 17:35

dee custard please

kk let me have a closer look at you .

Dr Topsy prescribes family size tub of twiglets and 2 large bags of naice root veg crisps (disclaimer - don't blame me when you get terrified by the blood red wees and poos you will do after overdosing on the beetroot ones)

DH did a foundation course in Generic Art then a degree in Fine Art (many , many years ago). Means he can do all the DCs art homework ...

Ham joint nicely smothered in honey and wholegrain mustard and slung in the oven . Judging by the size of the darn thing ,it should be ready about 9pm on Thursday Grin

topsyturner · 16/10/2011 17:37

Oh and DH has now taken to his bed with a cool flannel pressed to his forehead .
If he asks me (in his most pathetic voice) for a cup of sweet tea , I shan't be responsible for my actions !

janechocchip · 16/10/2011 18:00

Topsy :) at 9 pm Thursday!

I have some lemon meringue pie left - anyone still hungry?

You are an artistic lot :) DD is well aware of the failings of her school art department- discussed at length with the foundation student who showed us round at Leeds - left dd's school last year...

Deciding which direction to go in is exactly it. Bournville may be a good option as they have quite a long rotation at the start of the course whereas Leeds specialise in one area quite early on. Haven't looked at Bradford yet but I have done a number of evening courses there myself - not dd's preferred option but will be applying to a number of courses rather than putting all eggs in one basket...

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/10/2011 18:21

alas my friend only knows about degree courses and whatnot (maybe useful later !)
Cheeselets are £3 something at Waitrose so will hotfoot it up to Sainsbury's before they go. Ds loves twiglets and Marmite rice cakes but won't eat marmite itself..
We used to light the ends of twiglets are birthday parties as children and smoke them...

janechocchip · 16/10/2011 18:50

realises has number of friends to ask for recommendations of foundation courses, including school friend who is lecturing in a number of London art colleges ....

Mmmm Twiglets

smee · 16/10/2011 18:58

Shock at MAS's mis-spent youth. Grin

I will ask DH later about foundation courses jane.

Dr Topsy, remember your bedside manner. Grin

topsyturner · 16/10/2011 20:14

I actually laughed out loud at mas smoking twiglets Grin

Dinner served , dishes half sorted . Have had to take enforced break whilst I babysit for next doors sleeping kids whilst she drops her husband into work . I am a very good x factor watcher babysitter .

Can't wait for DH and DC to go back to work/school tomorrow , I need the break !

And don't tell the style and beauty mavens , but I have ordered the mumsnet scarf !

KurriKurri · 16/10/2011 20:17

MAS - you tearaway Grin

We used to smoke rolled up paper as children, - sophisticated or what?? - those were the days! Grin

Just had a phone call from a friend who had a colonoscopy last week, they phoned her yesterday and told her it was all clear, very pleased for her, she was so worried about it.

KurriKurri · 16/10/2011 20:18

x-posted topsy - which scarf is that?

topsyturner · 16/10/2011 20:23

Its a very large scarf , leopard print patterned . Apparently the designer one is hundreds of pounds . But ebay sell (alledgedly cashmere/silk blend) replicas of them for £15 .

All mumsnetters who see someone else wearing them can nod wisely at each other in recognition Grin

I am a sucker for a bit of leopard print at the best of times , so it seemed rude not to buy one .

KurriKurri · 16/10/2011 20:28

Ooh sounds nice - I can see you looking pretty foxy in leopard print young topsy. Smile

amberlight · 16/10/2011 20:35

Wine?

Off on hols in wild, wet and windy north tomorrow for a week of fun and frolic before the next bout of treatments commences....should be entertaining Grin

topsyturner · 16/10/2011 20:55

Have a great week amber , does holiday destination have wifi ? < gibbers with fear at the thought of going a week without t'internet >

Am back home and in pjs , and watching X - Factor result show .
Don't think it will long before I pass out , am shattered .

smee · 16/10/2011 21:19

if you haven't already passed out Topsy, what is this scarf thing you speak of?! I have a lovely friend who it sounds perfect for - she's adores all things leopard, but I can't see anything in Style and Beauty.

Kurri, that's v.good news for your friend. Smile

smee · 16/10/2011 21:20

G'ah, pressed wrong button. Meant to add a happy holiday to Amber. I hope there will be log fires to keep you warm?

KurriKurri · 16/10/2011 21:37

happy holidays amber Smile

topsyturner · 16/10/2011 21:50

It was on style and beauty a while ago smee .
Go onto ebay and type in "large leopard print scarf" . Should bring you up loads of sellers , get the cashmere/silk mix one . It comes in about 15 different colours too .
I luuurve scarfs at the moment , have recently got into proper accessorising and scarfs are my "thing" .

smee · 16/10/2011 21:53

Ta, Topsy. I will go seek it out. I always struggle to know what to buy her for Christmas and she's brilliant at presents for me. Hope you sleep soon zzz

topsyturner · 16/10/2011 21:59

The whole household is asleep , even pig/dog .
Me ? Can't switch my damn brain off !

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/10/2011 22:22

hooray for your friend KK - excellent news
And happy holidays amber Grin
We used to make cigarettes out of paper with loose tea rolled up - pretty vile... as a teenager I had a thing about French cigs and smoked them for about a week.

forpitysake · 16/10/2011 23:25

Testing...testing....I've logged on a bit late tonight I think and most of you have had a sensible early night (?) But I have managed to get my Luddite senses aroung having MN on blackberry so thought I'd test it out. So far so good but the emoticons are weird Hmm

I remember attempting to smoke a joss stick for a dare when I was about 13. Didn't work v.well as you can imagine. I also smoked Consulate cigarettes later on when I was older (but not any wiser Grin. Don't know if you can still get them-horrible menthol things.

I've been wanting a cigarette for a few days to 'help' with the stress but I know it won't help at all so haven't given in. Quite proud of myself Grin Grin
