oh my,I'm sorry amber-I hadn't realised-I was being rather insensitive in that case- that is tricky for you. Would it be possible to put the cataracts off do you think ?
Smee -hope you are ok- it's dreadful-am not watching any news but looking online and I see it's now happening in Ealing which is very near my old home and where lots of friends live.

SparkleRainbow · 09/08/2011 08:51

I can not believe this is spreading through the country like some August madness........

cakesandale · 09/08/2011 09:17

I can't believe all this rioting madness!! It feels surreal.

Smee, I hope you are OK (and everyone else, of course).

Amber, you have a lot on your plate, you cope admirably always. Don't forget to take help where you can get it though.

KurriKurri · 09/08/2011 09:57

I too am shocked at the rioting, it must be so devastating for the law abiding people in those areas, seeing such destruction.

Smee, keep safe, thinking of you and yours, and hoping peace returns soon.

amber hope you are feeling OK this morning, and SE's haven't kicked in too heavily, take things easy if you can (I know you are a busy woman Smile)

Oh amber, I missed your post about your DH needing GA's - poor chap, I'm sorry he is so worried, especially when you are going through the mill too. Come on here and let us support you, if you need a moan or are worried, - rant away if it makes you feel better Smile

How is your DS getting on, - is he still on his trip?

OP posts:
smee · 09/08/2011 10:21

Thanks for worrying about me. Was a bit of a grim night. Helicopters overhead and sirens-a-go-go. We had a fantastic e-mail system going between all who live round here, so we managed to keep ourselves in touch. Scariest was a friend and her two kids were warned by the police to stay in, as the police expected trouble on their estate. DH and his friend were on standby to run up and fetch them, but fortunately they're fine. She said it was almost a party atmosphere in the end, as a few of the residents piled in with them for solidarity, so they got through together. There was a huge dawn raid on a gang a week ago - something like 30 homes stormed at dawn. The estate where they're based was where yesterday's trouble was largely, based yet the press don't seem to have connected the two, which is weird as we all have!

Anyway, onwards. Today is another day and the sun's shining on what's left of Hackney. Hope everyone's good today. Especially you, Amber. Can you get some help for DH from anywhere in terms of his anxiety? Or would an outsider just make him even more anxious?

You too Sparkle. Hope the brood aren't so tiresome today. Does DS like building dens? I gave mine two sheets and a long piece of rope the other day and he spent hours perfecting a space ship. Not sure the sheets will ever recover, but still..

Pranma, meant to say hello before - in fact I did, but lost the post. Hmm Brilliant to hear you've been discharged. What a milestone! I told my triple negative friend and you've cheered her up immensely.

SR, so sorry your friend now has secondaries. That's the worst kind of news. I hope there's something they can do for her. Must be hard to face chemo again. Not sure how I'd manage that.

Brew anyone? I have a child free morning, as DS is at a mini-tennis camp in the park each morning this week and today's someone else's mum's turn to take him. Am assuming the tennis courts haven't been torched, so hooray for parklife!

KurriKurri · 09/08/2011 10:36

Yes please Smee, can you sneak me a big mug of strong hot builders brew? - this luke warm de caff nonsense I'm on isn't doing it for me Grin

Thank goodness you, your family and friends are safe, and great that you are all looking out for each other, but it sounds like a pretty scary night. How is DS? is he scared by it all or has he managed to sleep through the noise? I hope he enjoys his tennis camp today, sounds fun.

smee · 09/08/2011 10:45

Passes large mug of builders Brew. DS oblivious. He was so tired after tennis yesterday, that he went straight to sleep and DH told him Sainsbury's were closing early because it was the holidays. Smile I do worry about some of his friends though, as a fair few of them live on an estate which overlooks a park which I've just heard the mounted police charged through last night, chasing some youths. Not something I'd like to witness. Must have been extraordinary. All the estates are very tense at the moment. Not surprisingly, but am mighty glad we don't live on one.

How you feeling today? Are the beta blockers doing their stuff?

SparkleRainbow · 09/08/2011 11:01

Smee I am so glad you are ok, but it does sound rather like a war zone at the moment. Mounted police charging youths in the park, dawn raids...my mum said to me this morning (I rang early to check she was all right as she lives in the centre of Nottingham) watching the media images makes her think that Col Gadafi is laughing now.....how the media presents the images you are seeing.....One could be keeping law and order, one the oppession of the masses....we live in scary times.

SparkleRainbow · 09/08/2011 11:04

DS is driving me mad already by the way, I have just suggested the sheets idea for a den and suggested we can pop out to the shop and get some cakes to eat in the den. Ds excited, dd1 now sobbing cos she has to tidy her stuff away in the playroom first.....anymore Brew for me?

KurriKurri · 09/08/2011 11:04

Yes thanks - feeling better, and friends say I look much better (apart from yesterday's homeless chap obviously Grin) Not sleeping, but managing to rest in bed rather than toss and turn, so not so bad.

I'm glad DS is oblivious, - best way to be I'd say. Hope all his little friends have managed to avoid seeing too much, and I hope all this violence comes to an end very very soon Sad

KurriKurri · 09/08/2011 11:09

x posted Sparkle, - dens are great, they will often stay in there all day while you pass food to them Grin But oh dear for DD1, - you can't please all of the people all of the time!

Never got round to making the cake last night, might have a go today. I'm trying to tidy the office, dh's filing system seems to be heaps of papers all over the floor, now he's added various CD's minus boxes, and a dismantled computer to the mix. If I want to get to the desk I'm going to have to clear a path Grin

SparkleRainbow · 09/08/2011 11:10

Kurri, meant to say Grin at the sleeping rough comment yesterday, aren't daughters lovbely for boasting our self esteem. My dd1 told me I was fat and looked wrinkly yesterday, but she loved me anyway.

SparkleRainbow · 09/08/2011 11:10

boosting, not boasting...

SparkleRainbow · 09/08/2011 11:11

Grin at path clearing.....dd1 over her trauma and now helping with den design....thank you smee. Smile

smee · 09/08/2011 11:15

Sparkle, fingers crossed they don't have a den war when DD gets out to join him. Could they build separate dens maybe? You and teeny DD could be the judges.

smee · 09/08/2011 11:16

x-posted! Hooray for dens. Always a winner. If they get fed up of that secret signals round the garden out of stones/ sticks, etc work here too. Smile

SparkleRainbow · 09/08/2011 11:19

Oo secret signals of stones and sticks...that brings back memories.....you are good at the amusing of small boys smee. Thank you. I shall go and buy cake for us all!!!!

smee · 09/08/2011 11:22

Cake please! If we wait around for Kurri to bake, we might all starve to death. Grin

smee · 09/08/2011 11:25

Meant to say, if you set the trail you can time them both to go round and make it a competition. DS always loves that. Also, they have to leave you alone while you're setting it, so you get some peace..!

Here's another thought. Draw them each a large square with chalk on your patio and tell them to make a picture out of things they find in the garden, so stones, sticks etc. That usually fills a good half hour.

SparkleRainbow · 09/08/2011 12:03

Right my afternoon is set then, thanks to smee. Smile I am back from the local shop with iced fingers, choco chip muffins and mini choco doughnuts. The dc are currently building a fab den, dd2 is doing a jigsaw, and no-one is arguing. These moments are precious.

KurriKurri · 09/08/2011 12:10

Ooh iced fingers Envy love them.

Save me a bun, Sparkle. Am off to Park to fetch DS, so might need some return tips! Smile

SparkleRainbow · 09/08/2011 12:45

Guys there is a new thread on general health, called "I'm scared", it is someone who may need our support. I have directed her here, but in case she doesn't feel comfortable to come over.....
