Tada! A shiney new thread - get me with my fancy asterisks Grin

OP posts:
Figgyroll · 16/08/2011 17:15

No, not sore as such, Cakes -just a bit tender where the skin is exposed. It's only temporary and they will grow back soon enough. I will disguise my nails with a fetching pair of Marigolds and hope no-one notices Grin.

KurriKurri · 16/08/2011 17:16

I know Pink had a lot of nail problems (hope she doesn't mind me saying that) - I haven't seen her for a while though, is she on holiday? hope she is OK.

I didn't have tax Figgy so can't help, but if you do discover anything that helps, I'd be interested, as a friend of mine is just about to start her tax. and is a bit apprehensive about the nail business.

OP posts:
Figgyroll · 16/08/2011 18:00

KK, the latest on Tax and nails is very dark nail polish apparently. I'd read about it over on the BCC forums and a lot of ladies who've tried it have escaped nail damage. The nurse at my last chemo session said a few ladies had tried it and it seemed to be working. It was too late for me by then, I'd had about 4 or 5 sessions and the damage was done. Maybe your friend would be interested in investing in a bottle of black or dark purple polish to see how it goes. A few ladies over on the BCC forums also swear by plunging their hands and feet in ice - taking along a couple of cool boxes filled with packs of ice or peas. It works on the same basis as the cold cap (which didn't work for me).

KurriKurri · 16/08/2011 18:21

Thanks Figgy, I'll let her know, - I was on the phone to her this afternoon and she mentioned it. Was your chemo all tax? My friend had four FEC, and is now having 4 tax.

How is DS2's upset tum?

OP posts:
Figgyroll · 16/08/2011 18:32

I had 3 TAX alongside Avastin, the trial drug, followed by 3 FEC.

DS2 seems fine now, thanks for asking. It started Sunday morning and yesterday he was continually throwing up till lunch time then it just stopped. He's been drinking plenty and just fancies things like toast. He will have a slice of pizza later. It seems we've all escaped it (fingers and toes crossed).

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/08/2011 21:17

did anyone watch the Great British Bake Off ? cake-a-rama Grin

sandripples · 16/08/2011 21:33

Missed the bake-off as was at Slimming World (have just returned there after a month off!).

A friend of mine said all her nails fell out after chemo, but she's fine now.

Happy Anniversary KK.

Re scars etc - I only had lumpectomy and node clearance. DH had to get involved with cleaning my wound too so I don't recall him being worried about it - he's a bit ghoulish and rather keen to see that kind of thing Grin Any excuse to make some daft slightly inappropriate joke and he'll be there!

KurriKurri · 16/08/2011 22:12

I saw it MAS - its one of DD and mine's favourites, there were some really nice cakes there, I've been craving battenburg since I saw it Grin

Well done for getting back to slimming world SR, Smile - you have good will power (I do not Sad)

I'm glad DS is feeling better Figgy, and able to eat a bit now.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 16/08/2011 22:41

yes,I want battenburg too (the proper pink and yellow one)
Glad ds is feeling better figgy- toast is a comfort.
Well done too from me SR - lots of luck with that- am impressed.

Figgyroll · 17/08/2011 09:08

Morning all. Battenburg? One of my favourites too. I might have to hunt one down today. Grin But will ration myself as I am trying to lose a lot bit of weight. I've already lost just over a stone since losing mum and diagnosis (shock of it all really) but need to lose another couple of stones. I've done SW, Sandripples. I like their policy of red and green days - do they still do that? I think I might give it another go once I'm feeling a bit more normal.

I am having another quiet day and plan on going on another walk to the village shop today. Yesterday I managed two - once to the shops and then in the evening along the seawall with DH and the dawg. It wont be long before I'm feeling fitter.

Hope the SEs are subsiding a bit today, Amber.

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/08/2011 11:02

am seeing a friend (from school) for lunch today - might suggest the new bistro on the way in to town as Italian cafe is closed for August.
Ds just got up for breakfast- he is going over to p arents for lunch.
Hope everyone is fine and dandy today Smile

cakesandale · 17/08/2011 13:50

Hi all - someone said cake, I heard you! I missed the bake-off Sad

I've got some left over Easter egg as well if anyone is up for it!

Hope everyone is feeling OK today.

Dd is very happy because MAS sent her a beautiful book illustration, which we will be framing at the weekend, so it can go on her wall. Thanks again, MAS, she is absolutely made up.

Trying very hard to work, as Mum has taken dd off my hands and DH is doing lots of errands so that I can. Trouble is, this is one of those days when I just can't get going

amberlight · 17/08/2011 15:52

SEs are subsiding at long last in some ways....less weird numbness in fingers, back not hurting like heck, digestive system hasn't misbehaved for the last 18 hrs, it's gotta be progress!

Cake, did someone say? Could do a virtual Brew to go with it?

KurriKurri · 17/08/2011 16:03

Afternoon all, my cake radar was bleeping, so here I am Grin

Hooray that nasty SE's are calming down a bit amber, put your feet up, I'll make Brew

Hope you had a good lunch MAS.

I'm highly impressed by left over Easter Egg Cakes, I'm doing well if there's any left on Easter Monday. Grin

OP posts:
Figgyroll · 17/08/2011 16:17

Left-over Easter eggs? Shock You must have amazing will-power Cakes. Grin

Could I have a cup of strong Brew? I've just had my Tesco order delivered and the milk's leaked everywhere (hole in the bottom) and it's taken ages to put everything away as I had to wipe lots of things down.

Glad the SEs are dissipating, Amber. You'll soon be feeling like your old self.

How was lunch, MAS? Did you have something yummy?

EarthMotherImNot · 17/08/2011 16:45

Hi all Smile

Just had my cousin visit, she happily showed me her breasts which are ruddy marvelousEnvy

She has some scarring but after 7 years they are faint to say the least, and, she has nipplesShock

It has taken away some of my terror especially as she had the same surgeon as I haveSmile

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/08/2011 17:05

oh that does sound promising Earth ! That reminds me of the woman in the loos after my 6 month check up -we were saying how fab Mr H our surgeon is and she lifted up her top to show off her very good reconstruction.
I didn't reciprocate.
Lunch was nice- serrano ham and roasted vegetable & mozzarella on ciabatta and a big bowl of chips to share - she paid on her expenses (she is a proper businesswoman and has such things !)

KurriKurri · 17/08/2011 17:37

That sounds good Earth, I glad you had a chance to see what a reconstruction look like, and the nipples they do are brilliantly realistic.

What a pain about your milk Figgy - you don't need that!

Lunch sounds yum MAS, I love roasted veg. Smile

My mum has had another fall Sad, she toppled backwards while trying to put some gel stuff on her bad knee. She landed on a heavy coffee table my dad made years ago from wood and old washstand tiles. The table broke! - so she's got very badly bruised ribs, and says it hurts to breath and her back and arm are covered in bruises. Doctor came out to see her and says nothing broken (how does he know without an x-ray? Hmm) and has given her pain killers. We are trying to get her one of those care line bleeper things you hang round your neck, so you can get help if you fall. She is protesting and says 'I don't want you all nagging me just because I've had a fall' (or two).

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 17/08/2011 18:21

oh poor mum KK Sad ow Sad Definitely get her a thing to call for help- mum has one (as does MIL) -they are a really good idea. Hope she isn't too sore and bruised.

sandripples · 17/08/2011 18:44

Glad Amber's looking up - that's great.

KK's mum - o dear, you do have your hands full with parental support. I hope she'll feel better very soon. Falls and breakages are such a risk for the elderly aren't they. My old aunt was blown over by the wind one day (long time ago) and that was the start of her deterioration really. But she did move to a very nice home (with my help) and was happy there for a several years.

Figgy - yes SW still do red and green days but I do their 'extra-easy ' plan! I'm quite chuffed as after 4 weeks away and plenty of wine and cake I'd only gained half a pound, so that's quite amazing really. I was quite ctaive with walks and swimming, gardening etc so I think I worked off mosty of the cake, champagne etc in recent celebrations. As the SW consultant put it, their regime has given me some 'stabilisers' which must be a bit of a much needed break on my natural gluttony and delight in fine foods....

Must go and pick a cucumber now. AND (drum rolls icon) I've got my first red tomoate of the year out there. Will see if I can pick that too.

amberlight · 17/08/2011 18:53

KK, goodness re your mum. I'd be a bit suspicious about a GP saying there's no breakages too. Might be worth an X ray tomorrow if it's still bad?

So far our veg harvest hasn't exactly been bountiful. There's a marrow, and some runner beans, and one tomato so far! Determined to do better next year!

KurriKurri · 17/08/2011 19:10

Yes I think you are right amber - I'm phoning my sister later to see if she can take mum in for an x-ray tomorrow (she lives near my parents). Mum is the type to carry on in pain and not make a fuss, so she needs a bit of chivvying sometimes.

Well done on the very tiny weight gain SR, - it is great you enjoy walking so much, - I think its one of the best ways to exercise.

We've got loads of french beans and peas this year, but rather a small crop of courgettes, there's a few corn on the cobs growing too- I'm waiting until the perfect moment to pick them (but also keep worrying that someone will sneak into the garden and pinch them Grin)

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 17/08/2011 19:47

oh well done SR !
We have only had rocket and radishes- the tomatoes are all tiny and green - the chilli plant is ok,but no chillies and the quince tree is full of quinces. My friend brought me a bunch of her home grown sweetpeas- so pretty !
Really hope nothing is broken KK - but so easily done in the elderly.

sandripples · 17/08/2011 20:47

Go and have a read in Secondary Education- has anyone got a child starting at Hogwarts this September thread for some light relief!!

Iamseeingstars · 17/08/2011 23:28

Colds and coughs and meeting cancer patients.

Common sense says stay away, but I have been invited to a group councelling session that I want to go to. Dont know the situation of other people there but I have a cough and cold that wont go away and dont know what to do.

As many of you are going through treatment, or recovering, what is your honest opinion?

Hospital havent advised me what to do, other than keep washing my hands, but ignoring my symptons, even though I am now being sick because of the cough. (Recent diagnosis so no treatment plan yet)

Thanks
