Do you have any Canestan cream (even if its the normal thrush stuff) if so that will probably help!

Aero · 24/11/2005 23:02

Have you got any sudocrem in the house? Poor wee pet. Would send you my metanium if I could.

MrsSpoon · 24/11/2005 23:02

Ouch, pour wee soul.

Have you got any Chamomille tea bags? or That stuff that you put on sore nipples when b/feeding, arrrrgh, it's herbal sort of stuff, thick yellow colour, stinks??? Kamillosan! That's it.

You could make up some cloth wipes with Chamomille tea which would be very soothing or if you have some Kamillosan you could put some on her bottom.

use egg white! beat it up and then apply... let it dry before putting nappy on.

Egg white is quite good on nappy rash too if you haven't any of the creams around

Hi misdee (don't know how everything else is going in your household at the mo - but I pray all is as OK as can be).. DS has been in hoswpital for a coup0le of weeks after picking up horrendous stomach bug ( vomiting etc) resulting in dehydration. As a result his poor back-side ended up red raw. A combination of metanium and bathing it with chammomile tea has done wonders, so I would highly recommend it.

PS how is peter doing?

well this mornings nappy smelt very strong. her bottom is raw, dont have any eggs, tea or sudocreme. will stop at the chemist on the way to the hospital to pick up some metanium.

am using fleece liners, and used cotton nappy (not microfibre) and wool wrap last night to try and let some air circulate.

im using a cream that i got from a rowlands pharmacy its made by lanes and its tea tree and witch hazel -its says on for nappash but i was unsure about it till i used it its good and great for healing and soothing too i mix it with vaseline aloe vera (in small tin for lips) and it works well for soothing chapped sore bottoms

also my midwife once recommended canesten (i know it sounds bad ) for bottom emergencies this works well and stops any infection like thrush making it worse

did she eat strawberry something or tomatoes yesterday? this used to happen to dd1's bum everything she did, metanium didb the trick though, we got it on a repeat prescription from the gp

misdee · 25/11/2005 08:19

nope, she is teething.

ds2 got this very bad in march - so much so you can still see scars, and it flares up if he's not changed straight away - so please please try and nip it in the bud - In the end the only thing that helped was to keep nappy off, for long periods of time when possible - it did mean some accidents but that and good old sudocrem were the only thing that helped - good luck, ds2 was terrified everytime I went to change his nappy as he knew it was going to hurt

katzguk · 25/11/2005 08:39

ah thats used to do it too! she had a sensitive bum dd1

misdee · 25/11/2005 08:41

she does have senstive skin, i used dispoables and wipe on her when we were on holiday last month and she came out with a rash then.

Happened to dd1 when teething. Sudocrem did the trick.

dingdongMEGGYMOOonhigh · 25/11/2005 08:48

ds only had this once - we thought we'd escaped the dreaded nappy rash. I used everything to try to get rid of it, in the end I used something bought from a small chemist, it was called Vasogen and is/was the most amazing stuff, it sorts out nappy rash in hours. I was very pleasantly surprised and have converted many a sudocream fiend!

katzguk · 25/11/2005 08:52

its strange dd2 seems far less sensitive

donnie · 25/11/2005 08:57

my american friend says to use a layer of calamine lotion, then sprinkle with cornflour over the bottom, then vaseline - works miracles she swears!
another vote for metanium here.

misdee · 25/11/2005 08:59

i have just changed her again and put a thin layer of canestan cream on the listered bits. she giggled

Misdee, DD1 was plagued by awful nappy rash and I tried all sorts of things - even ordering from America once. With number two, the doc happened to see something similar and said that when it was angry red, it was a thrush infection and you have to use canestan for a few days. I wish I had known this first time. It cleared up almost instantly. So if it is really red and angry, it's likely to be thrush. I don't think many people are aware of this - I certainly wasn't.

AnnieSG · 25/11/2005 09:22

one more thing, I find Drapolene cream (from any Boots) very good for everyday nappy rash too.

annobal · 25/11/2005 09:22

Am a huge Kamilosan fan - or if you can get it Paw Paw is also very good. DH had excema on his hands and Kamilosan cleared this up in a matter of hours. Good luck - hope it's better soon.
