Grin But now you have piqued my interest . topsy starts making up all the things amber could be doing with her Bishops , country - wide ???
topsyturner · 01/07/2011 20:10

Sorry MAS , to busy flagellating myself to have time to get the hair shirt on !

amberlight · 01/07/2011 20:23

I can assure you, young Topsy, that my activities with the Bishop only extend to polite conversation and the occasional policy. OK, there was the incident with the trampoline, and the case of mistaken identity over breakfast...but anyone could make that sort of error (she tells herself, desperately...hoping not to be excommunicated) Grin

topsyturner · 01/07/2011 21:11

"Young Topsy" - I rather like you amber Grin

sandripples · 01/07/2011 21:14

Hi there, I hope everyone is well and coping ok with treatment. Just dropping in to say we had a fabulous time at DD's graduation in Cambridge - they really do the full works there don't they! It was great and w were sooooooooooooooooooooooooo proud of her. I'll try to put some photos up soon when have recovered - off to Newcastle Open Day for DS and 2 of his mates tomorrow. We're fairly whizzing up and down the country just now.
Shame about Andy M....................

KurriKurri · 01/07/2011 21:16

Have fun at the tea party MAS , say hello to That There London for me .

So ?
Where were you all ?
I was Kum Ba Yah-ing my little heart out !

KurriKurri · 01/07/2011 22:18

I would have come topsy, but I've got a verruca

smee · 01/07/2011 22:20

I was at the pub. Is that a valid excuse. Have come back to two v. grumpy males. DS is 'dying' - he's got a cold. And DH is a useless nurse. Still I had a lovely time, though I missed prayers and have no bishops. Shock

topsyturner · 01/07/2011 22:30

Harumph !
Beginning to think no one is taking this seriously ......

amberlight · 02/07/2011 08:45

Sorry, seems the Bishops were at the Annual Hog Roast for Clergy! I kid you not, they were. Grin

Have driven to wilds of countryside to pick up ds from his all night party. Now to get myself in a fit state to go to Oxford for a bit of culture.

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/07/2011 08:52

have a lovely time amber- glad ds back safely !
I will report back on cake after tea Grin

Morning all .

Had a broken nights sleep last night . DD had a major nightmare and staged a bed invasion ! I then slept in fits and starts , kept dreaming that my scans showed spreading Sad

What's the plans for the weekend then ?
Not much doing for us . Tesco and Sunday lunch at Grannys .

Have 8.40am apt on Monday for chemo , eeeek !
But have horrible feeling that I am going to get myself all ready for this apt and they won't start chemo . That they will make me come back later on in the week for it . Which will be a royal pain in the butt as it will mean DH having to take another day off work .

KurriKurri · 02/07/2011 10:56

Oh poor you topsy, - bad dreams are horrible, but just your brains way of dealing with fears.

I hope your chemo does start on Monday - just so you can get started on it, even though its a scary prospect and you're bound to be a bit apprehensive. Once the first one is under your belt, you'll have some idea of how its going to affect you, and when your good days are etc. We'll all be rooting for you on Monday Smile xx

Have a great day in Oxford Amber, and MAS in London Smile

MY plans are gardening, then tonight DD and I are going to a concert in a local church of 'Songs from the musicals'.
Tomorrow if the weather is nice we might got to the beach, or on a cycle route that goes all round the little villages (so you can stop off for refreshments Grin) depends whether we can get DD's bike fixed today.

Have a good weekend all. Love to pink - I hope you are OK?

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/07/2011 12:00

poor topsy - bound to be feeling anxious - I dream all the time abo ut things that make me anxious -as KK says,it the way your mind deals with these things.
Have a lovely day KK and a nice time cycling/beach tomorrow. We may go to the agricultural show tomorrow ...
Got the time wrong for the tea party - gah ! so leaving an hour later....

Ooh, I can see Rock Chick Kurri now. Effortlessly cool. Smile

SR, we need graduation pics. How proud must you be. Smile Hope DS likes Newcastle. Bit of a schlep to get there though.

Topsy, not surprised you're having nightmares. You don't know all the facts yet, so no wonder your mind's drifting to the worst. Once you're in the clear (which you will be!), you'll feel loads better. Not saying chemo's easy, but it's doable and you can tick off the days to the end of it and life returning. Hope you hear the results soon. Hope too that DH has stopped his sulks and DD lets you sleep tonight. We had similar last night too - must be something in the air..

MAS, hope your day in London was sunny. And Amber being cultured in Oxford. Did culture involve cake, Amber? Grin

Just back from a friend's exhibition opening. Was in an old church on the edge of a park, so v. conducive to nattering in the sun and catching up with people. Am sinking into the sofa anytime soon though, even though the house is a tip. If anyone has a cleaning Elf, send them my way..

topsyturner · 02/07/2011 22:54

Evening all .

Missed 10pm prayer slot again !
But did have a silent moment where I thought of you all Grin

Spent the evening with friends tonight .
DH looked after the kids so I could have the night off .
Had wine and Indian food in abundance .
Lots of laughs , and no talk of cancer .
Almost felt normal !

Was reading a website last night , and it made me realise that I am young to have breast cancer .
It basically said anyone diagnosed under the age of 50 was unusual .
Have had medical staff say to me , over the last month , "you are very young" . But I hadn't realised what they meant .
What age were you all diagnosed ?
I am an extremely young 41 .

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/07/2011 22:58

am back from such a lovely day - ds came with me in the end, last minute decision. My friend L who did the tea party made fantastic cakes - I though of you all - including brownies and coffee and walnut and an amazing orange polenta cake, but without polenta- it had ground almonds and was made with mashed potato ! truly fab. And sandwiches and scones. I can never eat much at parties as I get nervous but managed to have a fair few ! Saw several old friends and ds saw some of his (all very tall- very charmingly grown up) Think she made a good bit of money for Macmillan as everyone paid £10 - yay !
We were running late getting there so I pushed Charles to 87 (dh would have gone ballistic) - hope I don't get a ticket (this was on motorway I hasten to add)

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/07/2011 22:59

topsy I was 50, but my SIL was 33.

KurriKurri · 02/07/2011 23:25

Those cakes sound excellent MAS (esp. coffee and walnut) I'm glad you had a good time.

Exhibition also sounds fun Smee, as does nattering in the sun.

Topsy I was 48 when I was DX, (am 51 now) The majority of people I know with BC are older than me (except on here), so I would say yes you are definitely young for your DX. (But then again I also know people in their twenties who have it). I'm glad you had a good night out with friends - just what you need.

DD and I had a nice time at the concert. The singers were very good, and it was in a lovely big church. And in the interval there was free wine and nibbles (including my favourite pineapple and cheese on sticks Grin) I also accidently ate some sort of disgusting haddock sandwich, and had to scoff several cheese straws to take the taste away (thats my excuse anyway). but all in all a good evening and it raised £1000 for the cancer support centre. Smile

topsyturner · 03/07/2011 07:00

Haddock sandwiches ?
Who in their right mind made those ? Grin

Glad the tea party went well MAS . Am now starving , thinking of all those cakes !

Had another though re the dx at a young age .
Maybe its because we (patients) are getting better educated and more aware of what to look out for . And the Docs are getting better at spotting it too .
So tumours are being found earlier ?

amberlight · 03/07/2011 08:29

Haddock sandwiches??! Oh my!

I was (and still am) 47. And I know any number of people who've had breast cancer diagnosed before I did, and only one of them was over 50 at the time, so it's odd that they think it's rare. I wonder if it used to be rare to find it early, but it isn't now, for many reasons.

Had great day out yesterday with dh. Today, much getting-of-stuff for FineLad for his forthcoming mediterranean tour.

Have a Brew everyone

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/07/2011 08:31

eeew @haddock sandwiches ! There were smoked salmon ones at our tea party as well as ham and mustard which I adore,oh and cheese scone but only discovered those on leaving so grabbed one for later.

I think you have a point there topsy- better education among women into checking out lumps/better medical knowledge by docs - but also that this disease is perhaps becoming more widespread across the ages- all kinds of factors-additives,environment perhaps.

Feel a bit guilty as my cousin in the US has seen that I've been back to London and asked whether i'd been to visit auntie (the party was actually up auntie's road, and we passed the hospital on the way) Of course it would have meant not going to the party if we had (and bless him,ds did mention we should see her)
