Ooooh that chcken recipe sounds delish MAS . I am roasting a chicken for tonights dinner . Must google that recipe .

Hope everyone is full of Monday morning cheer .
Its another wet one here , so untill 8.30am my morning consists of trying to chivvy 2 reluctant children out of the door to school .

Tax credits still not managed to send me any money , I only sent the forms in on the 28th of May . I am expecting miracles aren't I ?

Got a bit of post surgery swelling come up over night .
The BCN told me to expect this , she said some women liken it to thinking their boob is growing back !
I can see what she means Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/06/2011 08:53

hope the swelling subsides soon - I can remember my under arm feeling as though it'd never go down...
www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2011/jun/09/pot-roasted-chicken-lemon-ginger recipe here- was absolutely delicious - cook the chicken for a bit longer than she says according to dh...

Hi...... Bit shellshocked at the moment as my sister came to see me yesterday to tell me she has breast cancer. She didnt have a lump but just thought she had mastitis. She had surgery on Tuesday and may have to have radiotherapy. My Mum had an emergency hysterectomy twenty years ago after pre cancerous cells were found after a smear, so cancer seems to be in our family. My Mum has told me i had better get myself checked out (My other sister is as well) I am so scared in case they find something........ Sad
I posted this in Chat and was advised to repost here..........

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/06/2011 11:17

hi keepingsecret -hope we can help and support you- and lots of good wishes to your sister. I don't think you need to panic unduly - it doesn't neccessarily mean there is cancer in your family -sometimes these things are just random, though if there is concern you can have genetic testing - but best thing is to wait for your sister's pathology results to see what kind of bc she has, whether it's invasive or DCIS and what grade it is- one step at a time..please do stick around for hand holding as it is very scary when a family member has a diagnosis.

amberlight · 13/06/2011 12:00

Morning all

Hi Keepingsecret - sad news about your dsis, but wise advice from your mum. Breast cancer treatment these days is very good and most people have an excellent chance of success, so although it's scary, it doesn't mean the worst very often now. Definitely do ask your GP for an opinion. We're here to talk to (I'm going through chemotherapy for breast cancer at the mo, with an operation still ahead of me...)

cakesandale · 13/06/2011 12:34

Hi keepingsecret - devastating news, then.

Like MAS and amber said - your sister's path results will tell you a lot more and give you all an idea what to expect. Chances are it has all been caught, treatment is very good now.

it is a good idea for you to get checked out, as it is for everyone. If nothing else it will ease some of your worries. Don't get too worked up about it being in the family at this stage though. I imagine most people could point to a couple of family members who have had a brush with cancer, it doesn't mean it is rife in their family. It is often just totally random and completely unconnected.

We can hold your hand while you wait for news.

KurriKurri · 13/06/2011 13:53

Hi keepingsecret - I'm so sorry to hear about your sister, a BC diagnosis is a shock for everyone on the family. I wish your Dsis all the very best for her treatment and recovery.

As others have said - cancer is a fairly common disease, so having family members with a diagnosis doesn't necessarily mean you are at risk, - some breast cancers just arise from spontaneous mutation, and are not related to genetics.

However I think your mum is sensible to advise getting checked out - it can certainly do no harm, and will set your mind at rest Smile Of course it is scary for you but even on the slim chance that they find something, BC is a very treatable disease caught early.

I hope we can support you,- there's always someone around with a sympathetic ear, and of course if your sister is a computer user, she'd be very welcome if she fancies a chat with people who have been through the same thing. Smile

Topsy - I hope that swelling goes down soon (when I had it, it felt as if I had a rolled up newspaper under my arm - quite odd) it is rather uncomfortable. I hope those tax credits get sorted out soon too.

love to everyone else. I went to yoga this morning - nearly fell asleep during relaxation, it was a meditation about lotus flowers - very soothing Smile

cakesandale · 13/06/2011 13:57

Sounds like a good yoga class then Smile

I am going for my consult about my bad back this pm. I had an injection at the end of April, and it did help quite a bit for about a month. It's bad again now, though.

Incidentally KK. are you feeling a bit cheerier now? You were down a week or two back, I seem to remember.

smee · 13/06/2011 13:59

Yeay, Figgy's back. Was worried about you, so am not surprised you've been having a tough time. Poor you over the sickness - I was like that on FEC too, so I do very much sympathise. Feels forever when you're in it, but honestly you're so nearly through. Huge hugs to you from me. x

Topsy, swelling is normal but if it's hot or uncomfortable get it checked. Last thing you want is an infection. G'ah to tax credits people.

Hello keepingsecret. So sorry about your sister - not surprised you're shell shocked, but as the others have said the treatment's good these days. Tell her about us - we're all very much still here! And do natter to us and let us help if we can. We more than know how scary it all is.

Still soggy here too - trying to work, but seem to be getting nowhere. Brew anyone?

KurriKurri · 13/06/2011 14:06

Yes please Smee - top mine up will you? Grin

I hope the back consult goes well Cakes - back pain is so miserable - will they give you another injection today?

I am feeling cheerier thank you. I think a combination of higher dose AD's and going to the Starthrowers centre - the doctor there was very helpful in getting me to review how I look at life. -You can't change the past, you can't predict the future, so try and enjoy every day and make the most of life as you live it. It kind of struck a chord with me, - I'd been feeling very negative, but I think I'm out the other side now Smile

smee · 13/06/2011 14:13

x-posted with Cakes. Sad about back. Get more injections!! Anything that works has to be good.

Brew on the go. Good to hear you're happier, Kurri. Hard to live in the moment, but definitely worth attempting.

cakesandale · 13/06/2011 14:25

I am glad you are feeling better. That sounds like a good way to live life - hard to achieve sometimes, but worth trying for sure.

I won't get another injection today, that is done in the day surgery unit, in vile paper pants and everything. So sadly, not another one yet. I think the next step is surgery. More surgery. Blimey, no wonder the NHS is strapped for cash - i've had it all.

I have also wasted my working day today, smee. I have a cold and I can't think straight, so abandoned it and have made use of being alone in the house to have another mad bout of chucking stuff out while no-one is looking Grin. I'll have a Brew now, if I may.

keepingsecret · 13/06/2011 14:25

Thanks for the welcome guys, im a regular on here but name changed as i am easily identifiable by my usual name. My sister will be 50 next month. She didnt have a lump but thought she had mastitis. The GP who im going to see is a family friend so i think it will be easier to talk to him.... Im a single mum and so worried in case something is wrong with me.

smee · 13/06/2011 14:33

Back ache deserves a Brew, Cakes. Get that injection scheduled asap, even if it does mean paper pants. Smile

keepingsecret, now it's in your head you need to know, so go and see the GP asap for a referral. I'd push them for a mammogram, as it'll put your mind at rest. I'd bet you'll be fine though. Smile

cakesandale · 13/06/2011 14:33

Sadly, everyone looks for lumps and doesn't realise that there sometimes isn't one - that can be felt, anyway.

There's every chance she is going to be fine. And you are bound to feel anxious, for her and yourself - but you can talk to us about it as much as you like. We talk about it all the time, once we have finished checking out the current cake situation, of course. Life must go on after all Wink

amberlight · 13/06/2011 15:43

Ooo, is there current cake? Is that similar to sultana and cherry cake but with more currents?? Smile

::hands out Brew::

PS they managed to get some blood out of this bloomin' portacath this morning, but what a palaver...

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/06/2011 15:46

yes indeedy - do come and chat - we do talk about food a lot and all kinds of other stuff as well as bc.
I'd ask for more injections Cakes -seems to have helped before !
Am fannying about wondering whether to bother GP about aches now bcn has said it can't be tamoxifen - I'm kind of talking myself out of them -am hopeless. Off to pick up my mindee for a short mind -she's at drama class-then will be back for a cup of nice green tea and some fruit - have bought more strawberries and raspberries (and some fruit sherbets)

keepingsecret · 13/06/2011 16:35

Hi, some goodish news, my Mum rang me about half an hour ago and ironically my sister has had a letter asking her to go for a mammogram in our local market town in July. Im going to ask the GP to write a letter so i can have one done there. Im 42 so i dont think im old enough normally to have one. I dont drive and the local hospital is 30 miles away so i hope i can go and have it done there!! On the subject of cake im a mean cake maker..... Madeira, Chocolate Sponge, Fruit Cake...........Wink

pinkstarlight · 13/06/2011 16:45

keeping secret... hugs sorry to hear about your sister.

im finally starting to feel more human again the last chemo session knocked me for six, still got some slight leg aches but medication helps.not been able to eat very well recently because of feeling nauseous but that seems to have lifted and ive spent the last 2 days pigging out.keep having mad cravings for food especially mushrooms and bake beans(not normally keen on bake beans) and i have a apple crumble in the oven because i just have to have apple crumble and ice cream.so far since starting treatment i have lost a stone in weight i will be putting it all back on at this rate.

smee · 13/06/2011 16:47

Ah now why did you have to say Apple Crumble?! Grin Great to hear you're eating again though, Pink.

keeping, you're in the right place. We do love our cake. Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/06/2011 16:58

madeira cake - yum- love it !

OP posts:
amberlight · 13/06/2011 16:59

Apple crumble and cream? Oh my! And I've got to go to a school Governors' meeting so won't be eating for hours!!

topsyturner · 13/06/2011 17:02

Cake ?
Who mentioned cake ??? Grin

KurriKurri · 13/06/2011 17:18

keepingsecret - I hope you can get your appointment locally, - it will set your mind at rest. - Fruit cake is my fav. after coffee and walnut, - this cake talk is not good for me - its putting a strain on my diet Grin

Pink - I'm glad you're feeling a bit better, when is your next one coming up?
Apple crumble is a great pudding, - my parents have lots of apple trees in their garden, so apple crumble has always been a staple at their house. (or occasionally gooseberry crumble, - topping and tailing goosegogs was a childhood job Smile)

SparkleRainbow · 13/06/2011 17:22

Was just passing through today...but someone said cake?

Keepingsecret, I didn't want to pass through for the cake, without saying I am so sorry that you have got all this to deal with. Your dsis is in good hands, and I hope your gp will very supportive and get you a mammo very soon.

Hi Figgy, amber, pink, kurri, topsy, cakes, smee and MAS. Brew is ready when you all are.....chairs out on the "terrace" and the sun has returned, could do with the company, dh has had a depression relapse ovre the weekend, I missed the warning signs earlier...but hope I caught him in time this time, and got him to up his antideps. Ho hum, will I ever get off this rollercoaster or am I here for the duration?!
