Thank You for replies, I am Going to go back to the doctors at end of the week and see what else I can try. I didnt have a BM at all yesterday. Ive been eating fruit and drinking plenty of water. I just sit on the toilet playing games on my phone (lol) waiting to see if anything happens. When I walk anywhere I think I need a BM but it must be the swelling because I then try to sit on the toilet again nothing happens. I dont no maybe I need to put a bomb up there to get things moving lol.

Hi Footle
I went and was there a couple of hours. Had ECG and they took blood, pee sample and BP.

I was given a little pamphlet about what to do where to go and what to bring in.

Nurse was a bit a of a tartar but I survived...

I am a bit nervous like everyone is I guess... will be glad when its done so I can tackle the recovery...although not looking forward to it... It doesnt say that they shave you but I think they will need to as my ovaries will come out through abdo ..low down at pubic area... so I shaved myself.. will no doubt get in trouble for it....

Also have to only have clear fluids the day before and then do a fleet enema the morning of... so will be completely empty...

Did a grocery shop tonight and will cut the grass tomorrow (if no rain).... still have bit of running around to do... but trying to keep busy so I dont get preoccupied with surgery and swollen parts to come....

I will post up what it says in this pamphlet they gave me ...just in case it helps anyone else.

  1. When you are back from recovery you should do exercises with your feet:
> point toes towards head > point toes towards foot of bed >make circles with your feet Do each fives times and do them often.
  1. Do deep breathing exercises:
> Deep breath in through nose and out through mouth Repeat 3 times..after 3rd breath cough 2-3 times. Do this often.

When you go home:

PAIN: If pain increases and is not relived by pain medication...Call surgeon or head to emergency dept.

If you experience pain or burning on urination, call surgeon or head to Emergency Dept

If you experience pain or swelling in your legs, call surgeon or head to emergency Dept.

If you have any of the following call surgeon or head to Emerg Dept

Sudden increase in bleeding or large clots

Blood in your urine.

..... Do not lift heavy objects for 6 weeks
>No vacuuming for 6 weeks

for 3 months do not lift anything over 20 lbs

> No sex for 6 weeks

> Do not use tampons for 6 weeks

maybe this will be helpful to some people... and me...

thank you for sharing all your stories. am booked for posterior repair and tvt at end of September, and am really stressing about it. Also just looked at an article about TVT last week in the daily mail (forwarded by my mum, think she was trying to be helpful!) in which a lady has had nothing but trouble with the TVT and how difficult it is to remove. Cheers mum! I hope |I'm doing the right thing.

Hi Clopper,
I had TVT nearly 10 weeks ago and have got problems with OverActive Bladder and urgency BUT my surgeon said that this happens in less than 2 per cent of his patients so I've just been unlucky. And my stress incontinence is definitely cured.
Have to admit I am rather low with this problem but it is definitely not a common result so fingers crossed for you. I know of two other ladies both older than me (and I'm old!) who had the TVT in the last couple of months and they are both fine.
And Footle let us know how you get on with your appointment.

clopper · 24/08/2011 20:48

Thanks for your replies. I know I need to get these problems sorted and there is a small chance i could end up in a worse state. What is overactive bladder if you don't mind me asking. I'm a teacher so don't want anything that could compromise my working life.

Everglades · 24/08/2011 23:03

Well it's pretty much what it sounds like. I did have some problems with urgency before the op, ie when I needed to go I really needed to go! Following the op I now have frequency as well which gives me a constant feeling of 'needing to go'. I am now on medication for this which I am hoping will work but it can take maybe 4 weeks to kick in and I'm about 2.5 weeks in.
It appears that as I already had sensitive nerves in the bladder area due to having had quite a few UTIs and a couple of kidney infections that it has made me more prone to getting this problem. So as I said before the majority of people do NOT get this.

clopper · 24/08/2011 23:16

can I ask did you have any infections after your op? I think I probably have overactive bladder now then, I always feel like I have to go and then hardly anything!

CanadianCarol · 25/08/2011 07:55

I had a TVT here in Canada.. it didn't work.. I still have incontinence.. I don't know where to go from here.. i'm sick of wearing pads daily

Everglades · 25/08/2011 08:30

Yes, Clopper I did have an infection after the op, well my gp said it wasn't as sample came back 'mixed growth' but I have had this problem before and I know it was an infection! It was 4 weeks after the op and I took a course of abs. Have you had a urodynamics test? The op is recommended for stress incontinence and not urge but some people are lucky and find it helps both.
Sorry to hear your op didn't work, C Carol. Mine definitely has worked for the stress side of things, I can cough, sneeze etc without leaking etc, but not for the urge.

clopper · 25/08/2011 10:06

yes I did have a urodynamics test which revealed that I leak easily. That is why I have been offered TVT. However, I am concerned generally about the front wall 'caving in' as well as the back. the surgeon wasn't keen to do too much as I am 46, I just want to feel right again! This has been going on really since I had my first daughter over 20 years ago with a forceps delivery and then another baby very soon after, so I am keen to get some resolution. I found that it really got bad after a recent chest infection which led to a terrible cough for weeks. I'm worried that I'll get all this done and then get a cough again and be back where I started.

Everglades · 25/08/2011 17:17

That's miserable for you Clopper, such a long time to have been having the problem, can understand you wanting it 'sorted'! I am 65 and have a daughter a year younger than you and have only had the stress incontinence problem for about 8 years when I became post meno and that seemed a long time :)
And yes coughing wouldn't be good soon after the op. I have never had any sort of prolapse so can't say anything about that. But putting aside my particular problems, the actual TVT operation really was quite easy and so was the healing.

Do hope all goes well for you.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 25/08/2011 17:49

Hi ladies

I'm preg with DC2 and have a rectocele from DS (coming up to 11m), it was actually only diagnosed at the same appt that I had made for pregnancy, so all the doctor can do at the mo is advise me to do pelvic floor exercises...

Were any of you pregnant after you first had your prolapse? I dont know how its going to affect my pregnancy at all, and am trying to research if I should aim to have an ELCS. My doctor basically brushed my concerns aside when I asked and said it would be fine, but my midwife has put me under consultant care because of it.

Thanks! :)

clopper · 25/08/2011 18:40

Yes beyond, I had another child 9 years ago, with small prolapse and poor bladder control . Felt quite 'heavy' down below towards the end but still had 'normal' delivery. Obviously, incontinence problems were worse during pregnancy and made things worse in the long run. Sounds like they are keeping a good eye on you. not sure that they will fix things up until your family is complete though.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 25/08/2011 18:54

Thanks clopper
The doctor did tell me they wouldnt even look at fixing it for at least 10 years... (I'm 25)

Lynnro · 27/08/2011 19:58

I am now 3 days post op... 1st day on morphine so dont remeber much, the2nd day the packing came out of vag...and they discontinued morphine...gave me iv toradol andiv antibiotics. Then day3 I had glycerine suppositorie toalleviate gas in bowel and to promote bm. Then they gave me pill form toradol discontinued antibiotics and i have regular tylenol for breakthrough pain. I am feeling achy today and sleeping whwn i can....I think igo home tomorrow.....

Lynnro · 27/08/2011 21:34

Clopper...I had a forceps delivery over 20yrs ago with 1stchild....it was a bad tearing which then caused a gradual weakening of posterior wall with subsequent 3 children....so when you have had your family I would consider getting it fixed as in my case it only got worse.

My rectocele was showing and bulging at front of vagina by time i got it done.
They told me that the pulling of the whole bowel etc caused my bladder to move and thats why my doctor strengthened it (bladder). I did not have any mesh in my procedures as i have an allergy to anything like latex, and most surgical tape so they didnt take that risk... My doc cut the back wall of vagina and the underlying muscles and repaired it that way... he says there are about 12 or so stitches.

My ovaries were removed asthe were looking nasty.thehad been left in when i was34 andhad ahysterectomy.
