caz1958...i have complained to PALS at my hospital about the wait for my post op appt.....they are looking into it for me. I was quite upset when i received my appointment with a 6 and half month wait, i felt like the aftercare stopped when i left the hospital. I just want some assurance that im ok. I think i am, but still get tired and a few pains now and then. Im lucky that i am able to have 12 weeks off work due to physical job that i do , at least i can rest when i need to. I do feel a lot better though and i am 6 weeks post op .Take care

CAZ1958 · 23/12/2011 09:14

Morning Ladies.....
Dear 14k...omg, yuk...like I said to Bruffyj, if it was me I would want it looked at especially with the Christmas break coming up. I would rather be a pain to the docs over nothing than leave it. I am not normally like this but we have all had major surgery !!! It's not worth taking the chance, take care & let us know how you get on XXX
Dear friends...I am gobsmacked about your appt & aftercare. I have just been lucky, I guess. Where did you have it all done ??? I would read back over the other ladies posts about how they felt at certain times then you can see how you match up roughly, I know that we are all diff but it will give you a bit of an idea.
I am only just over a week at the mo & doing OK mostly...feeling good today.
Take care All

Had a hot bath last night and the whitehead bit seems to have gone.when I was drying gently I noticed I lost a stitch from that bit.It feels better today so Im not sure if I should bother the gp.

I'm 4.5 weeks post op,can we get an update where everyone else is if possible?
And how are you all feeling about christmas in our positions?

Has jackie had her op or is it today?good luck if so.xxx

CAZ1958 · 23/12/2011 10:00

Hello All, firstly - thank you all sisters in pain for sharing your experiences, this is really reassuring to see I am not alone...
I am having a surgery for a massive cystocele in 5 days. I have prolapsed literally on a day of labour nearly 7 months ago and it has been a hell to deal with "all down there problems" and still keep smiling to my little baby... And I'm sure you really can understand...
Well, I'm actually hoping to hear from those who are after the op, how did you managed to deal with everyday life? How did you cope with lifting children? With prams and lifting baby to a cot? Hope to hear some ideas.... I'm really scared of the surgery and petrified of reality after...
Thank you.

Hello everyone! I am back! Had the operation to remove the whole Tvt tape on Friday which went well. I have the tape in a jar beside the bed, it is blue crunchy, prickly and like a Brillo pad! already I feel better, obviously I am in pain as I have had a long operation and been a bit mauled, but on balance I feel great! I came round with double vision for several hours after the operation because it had taken so long. I had oxygen for nearly 24 hours as my O2 levels were a bit low and stayed that way. My blood pressure was low and caused a bit of concern. I had strange leg cushions on my calves which constantly squeezed and relaxed, it felt like I was on a boat, and the inevitable catheter and a drip. My stomach is swollen like a balloon, and my pubic area is huge and VERY sore!
I had amazing care at the JR Oxford, it is a really happy strong team. I couldn't have asked for better care and my consultant is truly a skilled, careful and intelligent surgeon. Where she has removed the Tvt tape she has reconstructed a support'buttress' made of my own tissue, drawing in connective tissue and then-stitching to give the urethra support. So far this has worked a treat and she is very interested to see how i get on.
I came home today so have just had one of the strangest Christmas days ever. Last year I was working a 68 hour week right through Christmas and had porridge on Christmas day, this week I spent in bed recovering eating the Christmas dinner (I am not usually fussy, but OMG!), I have no idea how you could possible construct carrots to match the ones I had!
Thank you all for posting your good wishes, it means a lot keeping in touch and sharing stories. If any of you are heading for the JR please let me know as I may be able to help.(thanks)( wine)
Catch me...I will come and see you, just let me know when.

jackie62 · 27/12/2011 18:17

Hi again! Thank you all for your good wishes! I have just gone back over the last weeks news, it is so special to see good wishes from you all and how lovely it is that we have this site and can offer help and support to each other.
I forgot to say about one funny incident post op. I was still on the oxygen and a friend came to see me. Since the last time I had seen her we had had our very dear ancient cat put to sleep, buried him at the bottom of the garden under the apple tree, planting snowdrops, and my very dear 100 year old friend had also died and we had just been to his funeral. As I was telling her I burst into tears and the tears flowed down the oxygen nose tube and were pushed up my nose under pressure!! I got into awful difficulties breathing which obviously made things a whole lot worse and made me cry even harder! I think the nurse who was looking after me was on the verge of throwing my friend out until she realised that actually I probably needed her support!
Thought i'd tell you all before I forgot!
Lots of love to you all, take care, xx

Bruffyj · 28/12/2011 00:21

Hi ladies, hope you all have had fantastic Christmas's given our situations :) thanks for the advice caz it's not developed any further it looks like its the same as 14k and just a stitch finding its way out. All been ok my end nothing really to report, I do have a question have any of you noticed what look like small wet yellowish scabs coming away on your pad ( gross sorry). Friends it is definitely a 6 week post op appointment, they must have made a mistake with your appointment hope you get it sorted out. X

CAZ1958 · 28/12/2011 22:31

Hello Ladies...I hope that you ALL had a lovely Christmas, under our circumstances. Restful & as pain-free as possible.
Dear Jackie so pleased that you are finally sorted. Hope that everything is going well so far.
Hiya Bruffyj, really good news & 14k I hope that everything is slowly sorting itself out. XXX
An update on me....I am feeling pretty well most of the time. Even with trying to rest etc Christmas has been quite hectic but lovely. Was out at in-laws on Christmas day for 4+ hrs so that was a struggle. Went to the shops today for an hour really loved it but so tired when I got home. Had daughter etc to stay, so tried to keep going....but your body does tell you when it has had enough !!! I got dragging feeling underneath/exhausted & that back pain. Still have a pinky discharge...BM's fine but getting up a couple of times nightly for a wee !!! Still taking paracetomal & ibruprofen but will cut down again now as we have a quiet New Year ahead.
Could be feeling a lot worse !!!
Hope that all is going well for everyone.
Hope that Lolly is doing OK as well.
Nite All, Speak soon.

so hard to find a minute to catch up with 4 kids and dh at home!!

Jackie- you sound so relieved, this has got to be a positive thing for you and now you can just concentrate on recovering from the op.It sounds like it went very well so good for you.x
caz- you are being quite sensible by the sounds of it and being rewarded with a problem free recovery. So carry on with what you are doing!!! x

Buffy- think our sore spots are stitches coming out.I have had watery, yellow discharge for a few weeks and have searched the"hystersister" site(which also deals with prolapse repairs) and it is really common at 3-6 weeks to have "yellow stuff" .They say its down to the stitches dissolving and is normal so I hope thats the case. Totally TMI, I know, but keep me informed of how you get on because we seem to be at a similar stage. When was your op again?

Hi to Footle,Lolly,Makatka and everyone else

And a HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF US

Makatka · 29/12/2011 16:02

Hi 14k and Caz, thank you for your good wishes. I am feeling quite good for 6 days post op. Still on a variety of pain meds which all have their side effects but my abdomen has reduced a bit, I was so swollen it was unbelievable!
I am struggling a bit energy wise but I suppose this is to be expected considering I have had three general anaesthetics since September and each takes its toll. The groundbreaking 'buttress' seems to be working well, I can wee without problems, don't leak at all and everything seems to be holding up. It would be wonderful if this could become an alternative to Tvt.
Makatka, good luck with your recovery. Difficult with a 7 month gorgeous baby! Do you have any help at home during the day? If not maybe everything could be done on ground level, make a nest for your baby to sleep on the floor, and remember to pull in your core muscles to protect the surgery if you really have to lift at all. Take care, your baby needs to have a strong mummy so it is worth looking after yourself at this stage.
Happy New Year everyone!

HELP
Hey folks, we have only 6 messages left before the thread is full. Can somebody do the technical thing and create a new one quick before we all lose touch? I am completely non technical unfortunately and don't know how it happened last time, but we are on 994 messages now, the limit is 1000.
The original thread was under 'mums net rectocele', this one was a continuation called 'general health new thread for those having/had posterior or anterior repairs, Tvt and all the other down below stitch ups...'

Karen47 · 19/01/2012 11:38

Hi all,
this is my first post on here so sorry if I duplicate other posts!
I am due to go in for a Rectocele Repair surgery soon (next 6-8 weeks) and am trying to find out as much as I can beforehand.
I am confused by the different recovery times I am seeing- from back to work in a week, to three months off!
Also, time needed in hospital- also varying from one day to two weeks!! I just don't know what to expect. I have to say, I would be happier with a longer hospital stay as there are nurses to ask all those silly-sounding questions that crop up, without feeling stupid.
I am also prepared for a long time off work (I am fortunate enough to get paid while off sick) but am not sure now!
Can anyone tell me more? What is the average time for recovery?
I am having a repair of a 'moderate' rectocele, without the use of mesh (so far).
Thanks, Karen
