i have been getting really bad headaches lately painkillers dont work and doc said it may be dehydration cos i dont drink much. the other day i really tried to drink loads but thats not helped any either. its not my eyes cos had them checked. what could it be

It could still be dehydration - drinking loads for just one day probably won't help in the long run. Try drinking loads for a week and see if it helps - if not, get back to the GP and see what else he suggests.

Something else to consider is that it might be stress; lots of headaches are caused by stress.

KiwiKate · 29/10/2005 10:46

To ensure you are not dehydrated, you need to drink quite a bit, not just on one day though. If you don't like water, try fruit juice (either neat or diluted with water) or cordial or something. How much do you drink?

Might be sinus, or food intollerance. Or it might be something neural (to do with your nerves). When I was getting bad headaches, my dh insisted that I go to a chirpractor. I felt like a fraud, because my back was not sore. The chiro said that I had some pinched nerves in my back. After about two sessions with the chiro, my headaches subsided and I slept much better (I'd also been suffering from insomnia).

Maybe you should go back to the doctor?

starshaker · 29/10/2005 10:58

yeah think i will go back ive had to stop the car cos it was so bad

If lots of fluids some strong painkillers and a couple of early nights don't work GO BACK to the doctor

Ulysees · 29/10/2005 11:56

How are you feeling now starshaker? What symptoms are you having?

I've been having a weird headache. It's more like pressure that goes right to the back of my head. It's still there a bit but the doc gave me some muscle relaxants (mild anti ds) and it has helped. I've had sinus problems too but the doc said this headache isn't related? I never get headaches usually.

starshaker · 29/10/2005 12:05

ive been quite sick as well dont know if thats to do with me drinking loads more than normal

hope you are feeling better soon

Kaz33 · 29/10/2005 12:31

DP and me both had a wierd headache virus a few weeks ago. Know it was a virus because we both got it, painkillers didn't really work and obviously staring at a computer screen did not help.

Lasted about 3/4 days

Ulysees · 29/10/2005 12:32

how long have you had it for starshaker?

twik · 29/10/2005 13:36

starshaker, I hope you're not suffering from whatever it is I've got. read this

Ulysees · 29/10/2005 13:58

just read your thread twik and yours sounds very similiar to mine. I feel like my brain is trying to escape It's coming on again now but i find the more i think about it the worse it gets. Just been reading that acupuncture has been found to be really good for tension headaches so I'm going to try a local one next week.

twik · 29/10/2005 14:24

Ulysees, I feel sorry for you, I know what it feels like! I've just had a letter through to see a physiotherapist and I'm so so so hoping it helps. I feel like I'm slowly going crazy with it now. Someone on my thread described it as feeling like there's a balloon expanding in your head all the time and it's like that with me. Constant pressure all over my head and behind my eyes. I can't focus properly or think straight.

starshaker · 29/10/2005 14:37

ive been getting headaches like this since dd was born dont know how to describe them just fees really sore nothing helps i go to bed with them and wake up with them

OP posts:
twik · 29/10/2005 14:41

How long is it since your dd was born starshaker? I also go to bed with them and wake up with them and no painkillers really help. Have you seen a GP at all yet? Did you manage to read my thread I linked to? Lots of people suggested things which may help you.

Ulysees · 29/10/2005 14:52

twik, you describe it so well. It's reassuring to know it's not just me though tbh.

starshaker · 29/10/2005 15:03

shes 6 months yeah read your thread wil try a few of the sugestions and ill try and get to docs soon

starshaker · 30/10/2005 07:20

OP posts:
Finbar · 30/10/2005 08:02

I got a similar v.v. bad headache and the docotr thought it was a 'cluster headache'. I f you Google the term you do come up with some intersting advice etc which may be useful.

twik · 30/10/2005 12:23

I'll try that starshaker, can you only use it once when you've opened it? Do you have any problems focusing your eyes at all? My vision is really suffering very hard to concentrate.

Finbar I'm sure I don't have a cluster headache as it's usually one-sided. I've read lots about them too.

starshaker · 30/10/2005 17:31

nope but you are the only person who can use it

OP posts:
starshaker · 03/11/2005 18:10

ok new thing with my headaches my eye twitches when i have a headach dont think this is normal

OP posts:
noddyholder · 03/11/2005 18:12

agree on the 4head I was convinced it wouldn't work for me as I get severe migraines but it def did something Please try it It is expensive but worth it

SleepyJess · 03/11/2005 18:14

Could be stress/tension Starshaker. I know you probably have Serious Causes on your mind.. but they really are a very rare cause of headaches. Eye twitching is a common symptom of anxiety.. and the majority of headaches are caused by holding your neck wrong.. with too much tension in it. Ask someone to give you a nice massage.

Did the GP not mention stress/anxiety?
