I'm glad you had a good weekend Smee, - but it was windy! - we had a branch broken off a tree in the garden. Good for kite flying though Smile If you'd been a bit closer you could have popped in to mine for a cuppa Grin

Sparkle - we were at the beach last week and had the same beauty treatment- my skin is smooth, but also quite red and weathered Grin

We went over to my DS and his DP's house for the day on Saturday, which was lovely. I hadn't seen their house before, it a really nice little terrace. I took loads of plants because they're trying to do up their garden.

DD went back to university on Sunday - its her last term, I can't believe how quickly the time has gone.

Hope everyone else had a good bank holiday and good thoughts and love to everyone having treatment this week.

SpongeBobSparePants · 03/05/2011 11:34

Good luck to figgy -off to catch up with the rest of you....

cakesandale · 03/05/2011 13:17

So glad you had a nice time in Norfolk, smee, and that you had a nice time at ds's KK. Well done MAS for getting two years past diagnosis. It's odd how little things bring back memories - a loo roll holder for you, Sanex shower gel for me. I always liked it before but can't stand it now.

I've finally got my mammogram appt through for Thursday, so fingers crossed. Have your results come back yet, MAS? (I may have missed). Hope all is OK.

I have been busily gardening (about time....) and it is looking quite nice now. I have even nearly finished woodstaining the fences (we have a LOT of fences Hmm )

On the Royal Wedding front - didn't see much, but agree with you, MAS, Beatrice looked AWFUL. The hat was vile and her make-up was almost worse. She looked like a pantomime dame, which I know is a horrible thing to say, but it was a terrible look.

I've been for an NLP session about healthy eating and weight loss - two hours on Saturday afternoon and so far I have been really good, and with no problems sticking to it at all. The guy who did the session lost 3 and a half stones in 10 weeks but he was really, REALLY strict. And it has stayed off! Clearly that is a dangerous amount of weight to lose so fast but, as i have less to lose and am not in a major rush, I am hoping that it will help, even if i am a bit less - errrm - draconian about it. (What's that I can hear - oh yes, it's hope springing again)

KurriKurri · 03/05/2011 13:46

Good luck with the mammo Cakes Smile - the weight loss thing sounds good, what does NLP stand for again? (I think you may have already said , but I am queen sieve-brain) Is it connected to the hypnotism you go to?

I am another sanex shower gel avoider these days Grin

I have been looking at slimming world or weight watchers, but I can't really afford it atm. I sometimes think I'll never be thin again (I was very slim until I was late thirties, then it sort of gradually piled on, lost it all during chemo, and now its back) it's not vanity, I just want to be as healthy as I can.
I will join you in making a big effort, Smile

Beatrice's hat - what was she thinking? I sense fergie's influence Grin Its a shame because Beatrice is looking really trim, so she could have wowed everyone, now everyone's concentrating on her hat.

I've got physiotherapy for my shoulder tomorrow, I wonder if I can get him to check my wrist as well - it's really sore atm. I'm wearing a curaheat patch on it which is about 2years out of date, and has been at the back of the first aid cupboard - it smells distinctly foosty Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/05/2011 13:50

I still have sand in my bag from last year Grin
spongecakes- that sounds interesting- but 3 and a half stones is a big amount to lose so quickly- trouble is he'll have to be draconian for ever to keep it off (I do believe it all goes on again once you stop a diet regime)
Beige is such a horrid colour, especially for the young- beige ,nude,whatever...however,Eugenie looked like a chintz sofa in her Vivian Westwood frock -they need good stylists, poor girls.
Good luck for mammo on Thursday - no results yet for me-but am sure if it'd been bad news I'd've heard (wouldn't I ?)
Been to deliver my drawings to my editor and was given a very lovely cup of coffee,a rhubarb crumble muffin, some purple sprouting broccoli,a tiny baby radish and a tomato plant Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/05/2011 13:54

good luck with physio KK Smile

OP posts:
cakesandale · 03/05/2011 14:17

Yup I think you'd have heard, for sure by now Smile

Your editor sounds nice, MAS!

Good luck at phyisio KK> Def ask about your wrist as well. He can only say No.

NLP is neurolinguistic programming and it is related to the hypnotherapy. He defintiely will have to keep it up for ever more to keep the weight off, but he's hooked and it is less of a diet and more of a new blueprint for living ever after. It is very, very strict, but I won't do all of it. No wheat, no dairy, no refined sugar, no processed food ever, no cooked food before your evening meal, when it is allowed as long as done fresh and doesn't include any of the above. And lots of vegetable juicing Sad Fun, huh?

As I say, I won't be doing all of that, especially not this week as I did my shopping immediately before the session and I am definitely not wasting it all, but I am doing some of it. I have a secret password (it's banana) which I tell myself every time I fancy something on the very long banned list, and with this and the fact that I have been programmed to renew my enthusiasm every time I see the colour red, it seems to be going OK so far.

It was a lot cheaper than Slimming World, which I also can't afford. But probably much less fun.

Beige is indeed a nasty colour, especially on a young girl, but i do like to cast a critical eye over the frocks and hats on these occasions, it's the only reason I have for looking at it at all. And my, oh my. What a lot of nasty hats there were (but Bea's was by far the worst). We went to the Safari Park, where the animals were far more sensible.

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/05/2011 14:21

you might start wanting bananas though !

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 03/05/2011 14:26

I meant to say hypnotherapy not hypnotism cakes - I knew I had it not quite right, - but couldn't remember the word Grin

Keep us up to date with how you get on _ I am feeling optimistic for you Smile

I have to say my Dsis doesn't eat wheat or dairy or anything at all junkish (she's got IBS), and she is very slim.

cakesandale · 03/05/2011 14:33

Bananas are one of the few things that seem to be allowed Wink

Thank you - I am feeling quite optimistic this time myself. Oddly (make of this what you will) during the hypnosis part they told us to imagine ourselves as we look now and then as we want to look. For the first one I saw myself in black swimsuit, but for the second one I saw myself in a red one. I never, ever wear red. Then he told us that red was going to be the colour to motivate us. So this may sound a bit 'woo' but I really think this could work....

philmassive · 03/05/2011 14:34

Hello ladies, hope you're all well and things are going along nicely for you. I know I haven't been around for ages but just wanted to ask your permission and thoughts on something. I will be crawling lolloping Grin the Race for Life on Sunday and I need to write the sign for my back. I wanted to dedicate my crawl healthy trot to the ladies of the Mumsnet tamoxifen thread in honour of all your support in January but I wasn't sure if you'd find that hugely offensive. Please tell me the truth!

KurriKurri · 03/05/2011 14:38

phil lovely to see you, I hope you're doing well - I wouldn't find your sign remotely offensive - I'd feel honoured Smile. Lots of luck in the race - have you got a justgiving page you can link to for sponsorship?

KurriKurri · 03/05/2011 14:39

Cakes - that is odd about the red swimsuit, - nothing wrong with a bit of woo occasionally IMO Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/05/2011 14:51

hello phil- that is a lovely idea - I would be proud to be on your back ! link to your just giving page Grin !

OP posts:
cakesandale · 03/05/2011 14:52

Hello Phil - I personally would be honoured. Thank you for the thought. Don't forget I am sponsoring you, so let us know how we can do that - you can PM us if you don't want to put sensitive details here....

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/05/2011 14:54

yes,do pm me !

Its been ages again...so sorry, what with the kids being off school for most of April and feeling tired, I don't seem to have had the time to come on here. Hopefully things will be back to normal now.

Figgy - I feel the same about Docetaxel as you do about FEC. I guess its a case of better the devil you know...:) I feel comfortable with FEC (well as much as you can with a chemo drug).

Pink - hope you are feeling better now? I don't think I could inject myself and would be a wuss too :)

I had consultant appt today except I saw someone else. His 2nd in command I guess? She was lovely and I felt I could ask her more. Lump has shrunk again. Nothing really to report, which I guess is good news? My cold is still here and driving me mad but sense of taste and smell are coming back slowly. My heat rash has gone.

My final FEC this Friday (as long as bloods ok)...hurrah...then 4 doses of Docetaxel...boo!

Figgyroll · 03/05/2011 22:24

Hello all. My appointment with the oncologist was a bit of a non-event. The results from the ultrasound weren't back due to the two bank holidays. She is certain the lump has shrunk though. Am starting first of three FEC tomorrow and the dose isn't being reduced. Apparently I have got it wrong - I am not having radiotherapy after the chemo has finished. I am having the mastectomy then the rads. The op fills me with dread but on the other hand I desperately want the lump OUT asap. However, I am terrified it wont have shrunk enough to get clear margins.

pinkstarlight · 03/05/2011 23:34

little green frog and figgy very good news that both your lumps are shrinking really helps to give you a boost.i have to have one more dose of FEC then will have 3 doses of docetaxel,i cant even think about the op yet im having enough trouble getting through the chemo.

update is i had a ultrasound today on my sore arm and they found a bloodcot thats effecting 3 veins,i have to thank you ladies for your advice as its down to you that i went and got it looked at which means they cought it in time .looking at google seems quite common for people on chemo to get sore arms so its a good job i didnt leave it.the bad news is 6 months of daily injections in my stomach being as i have been giving myself these injections over the last few days i have agreed to carry on doing it myself beats waiting around 7 days a week for the DN to come out and give me them.

Figgyroll · 04/05/2011 05:42

Thank goodness you had your arm looked at Pink and that they caught it in time. It's a pain (excuse the pun) having to inject yourself every day but needs must, and all that. Like you say, at least you wont be staying in every day waiting for the DN.

I have been up since 4am. Blimmin' indigestion. I must ask at the chemo clinic this morning if they will add a good remedy to my list of meds to collect from the pharmacy. I never used to suffer but nowadays lots of things seem to set it off - onions in any shape or form, anything pickly or spicy, and (worse of all) wine. I am wondering if I'll ever enjoy a glass of wine again. Wine

It's our 32nd wedding anniversary today but as we've both been too poorly to get to the shops for cards we've agreed that we wont bother with them this year - we know how much we love each other. But we might go out for lunch after I've had the chemo, if I feel okay. Smile

philmassive · 04/05/2011 08:58

Kurri, Cakes and MAS, thanks very much. I was worried that you'd be offended since we don't really 'know' each other in the traditional sense. I will be proud to have you with me as I go! As for donating, that would be kind but please do not think in any way that you have to, you've donated enough in support and kindness and friendship to me, a donation is not necessary at all. I am on a donations bender at work today and intend to hassle people good and proper this week though! Link is here but as I say please don't feel that you have to, as I feel a bit embarrassed! Will let you know how I get on, though not really expecting a 4 minute mile, or possibly not even a 40 minute one!

cakesandale · 04/05/2011 09:27

I will do it later today, Phil. Good luck - let us know how it goes.

Figgy, pink and LGF - you are doing amazingly well, all of you. Hurrah for shrunken lumps and for clots that have been found in time! Keep plodding on, it really does end, and sooner than you'd think. On a practical note - thanks for the reminder figgy - it's our anniversary on Friday (22 years).

We are dog sitting at the moment and it is quite hard to type with a dog constantly nudging your arm. I think she wants a walk.

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/05/2011 09:48

hooray too from me for shrunken lumps and discovered blood clot-thinking of you all.. am off to look at phil's link in a sec.
Am feeling decidedly down at the mo..I suppose anxiety really-felt really out of it at book group (though the book is amazing) -work and whatnot is all fine;it's just other stuff but I can't explain what-ridiculously I'm anxious about going to dinner at my friend's house on sat. (me and dh,friend and dp and another friend and dh and al;so a woman who I've met a couple of times and who is v nice indeed and her dh who I haven't) gah ! sorry for self indulgent whining.

Fair enough MAS, sometimes you need a whinge. We all do.

Could your meditation practice help?

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/05/2011 10:38

thanks Cakes - meditation not really helping-am in a bit of a stuck place at the moment. There is a meditation day on Sunday which I plan to go to,that might restore me a bit. I think I have pinned all my hope on this overcoming everything and any backwards step feels worrying.
