amber..poor you that sounded and awful experience.

all those who suffer from carpal tunnel i feel for you,i have experienced this once when i was pregnant with my second baby was told it was hormone related.i can remember the pain was much worse at night and in the mornings my arms just hung limp by my sides had no control over them at all luckily it only lasted about a month and just disapeared as quick as it came.

talking about sore arms my arm is really hurting on the side they always do my blood and chemo, feels like ive badly strained my arm has anyone experienced this.

KurriKurri · 28/04/2011 14:42

pink - I got a lot of pain in my chemo arm - exactly as you describe, its very painful, its inflammation in the veins I think caused by the harshness of the chemo. I was told to rub ibrubrofen gel into my arm, and take paracetamol. But I would give the unit a ring if you can because you can get phlebitis (vein inflammation - mine hadn't quite reached that point) and I think they might be able to give you some other ointment to rub in if it's that.

amberlight · 28/04/2011 14:49

pinkstarlight, yup, arm v sore. Doc says it's because of the chemo making the veins sore, which affects how the whole arm feels, but as KK says, get a doc to check it out in case it's an infection (normally that means the arm is a bit swollen and hot compared to the other one).

Splendid bog cake! Grin I particularly like the way it sags in the middle with a wettish bit and some fake bog grass on the side!

SpongeBobSparePants · 28/04/2011 14:54

Thanks all! I was about to nip out for a bog cake Grin but I think dd and I will nip and get the standard sort after school. She has also written us a song to sing later (I have my very own verse Hmm )

And thanks for the good wishes about my back - as to what it was, exactly, to tell the truth I am not sure Blush. It was somtehing or other injected into the nerve root at level 5. I think it has helped with the nerve pain in my hip and down my leg but, the back pain is still there. I realised it might potentially hurt when a woman sat at my head and announced she was my handholder. But actually it wasn't as bad as the bc biopsy. I have an appt in six weeks and have been told to take notes on how it feels, and when.

DH says that he is determined to wean me off hospitals and he is going to start desensitising me by driving me round the site, but not letting me go in Grin

Pink - the sore arm sounds awful, but I can't remember having it myself. KK's advice sounds good. Don't struggle on with this or anything else without mentioning it, they can help with most of the SEs.

SpongeBobSparePants · 28/04/2011 14:56

Actually scrub that, I've just remembered I did have a sore arm after all. It lasted a few months post treatment as well, so probably best to get some help with it (I didn't). I can't believe I forgot that!

smee · 28/04/2011 16:09

Pink, I had a bit of a sore arm too. I had black veins protruding by the end - a truly attractive look.. I think the FEC burns as it goes in. That's why they do it so slowly. Yes get it checked though, no infections allowed.

SpongeBob, a song?! Shock. Are you allowed a large glass of Wine before you take the stage? I think you should insist. Virtual bog cake for me too please. No reason other than it's cake. Smile

Haven't heard from Figgy, LJ or LGF for a couple of days. Hope you're all okay.

pinkstarlight · 29/04/2011 00:08

i ended up ringing the oncology unit and they called me in to see the doctor who diagnosed me as having a infection in the vein and has given me a course of antibiotics.the doctor also decided to treat me for a suspected blood clot as a precaution because of the time, bank holiday, weekend etc its not possible for me to have a scan to rule it out till tuesday so now i have to inject my stomach daily to thin my blood.had a bit of a panic attack when they told me what i had to do they also made me inject my self before i left the hospital,a dear little old lady who was sat with me in the day ward talked me round as she also has to inject herself on a daily basis.im such a wuss even the nurse couldnt stop her self from laughing.

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/04/2011 07:34

Blimeys, Pink - how are you feeling now??

SpongeBobSparePants · 29/04/2011 09:58

Crikey pink - I am so glad you got checked, well done. Sorry about all the hassle though [csad]

pinkstarlight · 29/04/2011 11:08

i know its never end ingone thing after another, but at least they let me home had to wait hours for blood results to come back. i swear though they was determined to find something else wrong with me your blood pressures to low etc same as the 2 other people who had to go in to see the doctor.

i was like "omg i cant do that" the hospital was very mean we cant let you leave till you do and we struggle to get a DN out to you at such short notice being a bank holiday.so this morning i have a big bruise on my stomach.

just watching the wedding kate looks beautiful, very disorganised today the first guest arrived and we was all in bed.

KurriKurri · 29/04/2011 12:48

Poor you Pink - I'm so glad you phoned though and are getting it sorted (the injections aren't much fun though Sad) Put your feet up and watch the wedding, and I hope you feel a bit better soon Smile

amberlight · 29/04/2011 13:43

Pink, eek re the injections, but I have visions of all of you running about in your nightwear this morning with the guests arriving! Hope they're no hassle and are making you a nice cuppa...

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/04/2011 15:55

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/04/2011 17:20

it just occurred to me that today is the 2nd anniversary of my diagnosis- we had to wait until 5pm or something for my appointment.

Well two years is a good landmark to reach MAS - well done Smile I expect it also feels a bit odd and brings back a few memories you'd rather not have.

But I'm raising a Wine to your continued good health, and a thank you for starting this thread, you are much loved poster Smile xx

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/04/2011 23:50

aw thanks KK ! I went out that day to meet up with two mnetters -I'd met thwem before with our dcs- hippipotami & hotcrossbunny - we had a lovely day,but the appointment was in my mind - I don't know what I was expercting really, but it was a nice way to spend the day instead of pacing around at home. I'd bought my parents a really nice lavatory roll holder (we'd met at a fab antiques centre) and whenever I see it at their house I think of thast day...weird

Smile for MAS

Hope you are ok pink, you are really going through it at the moment!

Figgyroll · 02/05/2011 23:51

Crikey, Pink. You sound like you've been in the wars. I hope your vein has settled down now. Ouch to the injections in the stomach. I had them when I was in hospital and found them much more painful if I tensed up. Luckily the district nurse came daily to give me the Filgrastim injections. No way would I or DH be able to do them.

Please wish me luck for tomorrow. I am going to have some bloods taken for my chemo on Wednesday - first of three FEC. But I'm also seeing the oncologist and she will give me the results of my ultrasound scan from last week. Fingers crossed the lump has shrunk considerably. Oddly enough, ever since the scan my breast and underarm has been a bit sore which has been a worry. I will mention it tomorrow.

I have to admit, I'm not looking forward to the FEC. I think the dose is being reduced to avoid me getting neutropenic again.

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/05/2011 07:36

lots of good luck for today figgy x

KurriKurri · 03/05/2011 10:20

Lots of luck for today Figgy, we'll all be thinking of you xx

smee · 03/05/2011 10:56

Figgy, I'll have everything crossed too. I'd bet the sore breast underarm is simply exhaustion as you're mid chemo. Honestly everything ached when I was at your stage, so I'd bet it's just that. You could well find FEC okay you know. Lots of women say they do, so with a bit of luck you'll be one of them.

Smile Smile for MAS. Two years is fantastic. As is this thread and it's all down to you, so I will toast you tonight. Wine

Pink, poor you. Hope the vein's easier today. Hope too that the wedding guests didn't wipe you out too much.

We had a fantastic if windy weekend in Norfolk. Fossil mooching on beaches and flying kites. Bit miffed, as we didn't get to a single tea shop, but then that's for rainy days, so I shouldn't moan. I have just found half a beach of sand in the bottom of my bag. Grin

SparkleRainbow · 03/05/2011 11:15

Oh Figgy, good luck today. I hope it goes ok.xxx

Grin at all the sand in your bag! Last time we went to the beach in Norfolk, last summer, we had a skin exfoliation by the wind blasting us with sand! Invigorating and free! Grin People pay a small fortune for that kind of torture beauty treatment

SparkleRainbow · 03/05/2011 11:16

Brew for smee to make up for lack of tea shops.
