Sorry NP I wondered why you were checking for a MN thread after every period! PMSL!

Now I understand you mean you're coil wirey things. How long have you had it in? After a while they kind lie embedded in you vaginal wall. Could it be that?

Are your periods heavy enough for it to come and you not notice?

nailpolish · 24/10/2005 15:47

och i knew someone would think it was an mn thread!

ive had it about 5 months now

and my periods are quite heavy - would it come out? could it? should you check the tampon?

shit - i wish i could find it getting stressed now

NP - Its unusual for it to come out after the first couple of months, but yes they can just come out (hence why you're told to check for the threads after you period). The threads can become embedded in the tampon as it swells so you should always check it (lurrrvely, reminds me of mooncups ). BUT after feeling it go in I imagine you would notice it getting pulled out! OUCH!

You should phone your GP though to getit checked out.

nailpolish · 24/10/2005 15:51

does it have to be the gp (mine is particularly gorgeous and shy) can it not be the practice nurse?

FangAche · 24/10/2005 15:52

NP - Lol... maybe, just phone them!! It must happen all the time.

anorak · 24/10/2005 15:53

This happened to me a few weeks ago and I made an appt to see the nurse. Between making the appt and going for it I had another go and could feel the ends that time. But I still went cos I was worried it had moved.

The nurse was happy to examine me and confirm that it was still perfectly okay.

nailpolish · 24/10/2005 15:54

thanks anorak and fangache

You'll be sent for an ultrasound probably... just to check its definitley not lurking there.... then you'll probably be offered another one!

There isn't any chance that you could be pg is there??

nailpolish · 31/10/2005 14:28

i finished my period and we had sex a few days after that, i had forgotten to check for my thread right after my period and i checked a couple of days after we had sex.

after a mini panic the other day, dh has reluctantly after much arm twisting to have a vasectomy

OP posts:
crazydazy · 31/10/2005 14:29

I got pregnant whilst the coil was fitted too!!! Apparently it had moved itself from the correct place but I must admit I didn't check the threads all the time!!!

FangAche · 31/10/2005 14:29

Oooooo dear.

So when did you have sex (how nosy am I??)? Juat trying to work out if it would be too early to do a pg test.

The Nurse will do one anyway if your coil has fallen out!

I hardly ever check mine!

nailpolish · 31/10/2005 14:30

oh please dont say that

OP posts:
puddle · 31/10/2005 14:30

Nailpolish I have just suffered the indignity of having the doctor look for mine. Neither I nor dp could find them - but it was all in place and fine. Try not to stress too much - it's highly unlikely that it will have fallen out without you noticing.

nailpolish · 31/10/2005 14:32

i cant remember precisely but i think i finished my period on thursday last, and we had sex last sauturday, and then i checked last monday for the threads

OP posts:
nailpolish · 31/10/2005 14:33

thanks puddle

i seriously dont know what i would do if i was pg

but less stressed after your post puddle

isnt contraception an effin nightmare

nailpolish · 31/10/2005 14:34

puddle, where was the thread (sorry to be nosy)

was it there but you couldnt find it?

dh said he could feel my cervix but no thread

OP posts:
crazydazy · 31/10/2005 14:36

Sorry but wouldn't trust the coil at all. I have known 5 people not including myself to get pregnant!!!!! It was bad for me because I was pregnant and then decided we wanted the baby to be then told that when they removed the coil it could cause miscarriage, was very scary at the time!!!! DS was fine though!!!

Vasectomy is definitely the safest if you are sure you don't want any more - I made my DP have it done as I had given him 2 kids so I thought it was his turn!!! He thought that was fair!!!

puddle · 31/10/2005 14:37

Erm ...it had moved. It took her an age to find it. She had several goes and she was using the thing they use for smear tests and a bright light to see!! Sorry if TMI - but she was not just feeling for it, IYSWIM

nailpolish · 31/10/2005 14:39

yes, my dh agreed it was only fair too!

glad your ds is ok

i really thought the coil was the answer to my contraception nightmare

its probably there, but i dont know if i could stand this if i couldnt find the thread again in the future

definitely sending dh to dr asap

nailpolish · 31/10/2005 14:40

thanks puddle - i have been wondering if they used that 'vice' thingy and a light! does she wear a torch on a hard hat too?!!

not looking forward to it at all

OP posts:
puddle · 31/10/2005 14:43

Yep, and crampons.

It'll be fine. You've had two kids! how bad can it be?

Crazydaisy am shocked by that. I don't know any accidentals preg.s amongst people I know who use coils. Not surprised you've lost faith in it.

nailpolish · 31/10/2005 14:44

i was so convinced the coil would be fab - dr told me it was as reliable as the pill and she had never seen any pg's
