Could you use teething gel for numbing?

I accidentally removed one once when dancing, pissed out of my head, and wearing fishnet tights Grin

Never felt a thing.

SorryDoIKnowYou · 10/03/2011 20:28

I did a diy job with cotton once, it didn't hurt (after the initial sting of tightening the cotton), didn't swell, I put a plaster over it and checked it after 24 hours and it was shrivelled, black but still attached. I put a new plaster on a nd after a further 24 hours the tag came away painlessly stuck to the plaster when I took it off.

Which is a slightly long-winded way of saying that your's doesn't sound quite right. See how it is in the morning? I'd say another 48 hours then doc but that'd be the weekend - typical!

ravenAK · 10/03/2011 20:38

I pulled one off with tweezers once when pissed. Nearly fainted Grin.

Have also done nail clippers...

edwardsbella · 10/03/2011 20:46

im seeing the gp for another matter on monday so if its not gone i will shame myself and ask for her help

Teething gel or Clove oil will numb it - if you have any preparation H or similar pile ointment that will both numb and shrink it. Take ibuprofen.

Are you sure it's actually a skin tag and not a third nipple or anything? Cos if you are not sure you may just be doing amateur bondage instead Grin

RenniesFromHeaven · 10/03/2011 20:49

If it starts to go black and shrivelled it is dying and will fall off soon.

If it's just red and sore keep an eye in case it gets infectiony.

Infectiony...

Yes, I am a medical professional...

LessNarkyPuffin · 10/03/2011 20:50

Grin Then she might need something antisepticy.

DrNortherner · 10/03/2011 20:51

I've removed a couple by twiddling it round and round until it's hanging by a thread, goes dark and drops off. very satisfying. I have one on my collar bone and one in my arm pit to do next.

at hacking it off with nail clippers or tweezers!

RenniesFromHeaven · 10/03/2011 20:56

in case she gets fainty?

(or... gangreney...)

weegiemum · 10/03/2011 20:58

I'm a Nail CLipper girl too!

Much to the Shock of my dh who is a GP!

RenniesFromHeaven · 10/03/2011 21:01

Oh cripes, I'm going to have to try this aren't I?

The nailclippers are a bit rusty but I have many skin tags to choose from... I'm sure this will work out fine!

MN MADE ME DO IT!!!!!!!!!!! (except from notes at hospital)

weegiemum · 10/03/2011 21:04

Don't worry rennies it doesnt normally bleed very much!

HumphreysCorner · 10/03/2011 21:04

Nail clippers here too!

RenniesFromHeaven · 10/03/2011 21:07

I don't mind the blood too much when it's mine...

(because other people's blood is just inconvenient)

It's just ... I dunno... a bit extreme?

BooyFuckingHoo · 10/03/2011 21:17

@ nailclippers!!!

barmbrack · 10/03/2011 21:22

I did this with a sticky out mole on the side of my neck. (on the advice of a doc, mind you). Tied it tight with thread.

it didn't drop off, though was hanging by a thread. After about 3 weeks. Took ages and ages, got all red and infected, doc couldn't to anything because the surgery didn't have a 'minor surgery' dept or some such, even tried casualty (in the middle of the night, so as not to clog it up) in desperation, but they wouldn't help, said back to GP. I had to cut it off with kitchen scissors.

it really hurt and I nearly fainted.

Could have been nasty.

Was quite nasty.

Wouldn't try it again.

RenniesFromHeaven · 10/03/2011 21:25

Thanks barmbrack - you saved me from self-surgery! Well-timed interjection.

dixiechick1975 · 10/03/2011 21:27

Have done 2 with kitchen scissors - one big, one small. Only bled a tiny bit not regrown. Took me ages to pluck up courage for first DIY removal.

Jacksmania · 10/03/2011 21:28

I cut mine off with sharp cuticle scissors. Stings a bit, bleeds a bit, gone.

I suppose as long as you're not tying off your own haemorrhoid a la amateurarsedoctor, you'll be all right :o

jalopy · 10/03/2011 21:29

This thread is very 'amateurarsedoctor'esque.

SorryDoIKnowYou · 10/03/2011 21:30

Rennies barmbrack talked about a "mole" .

skin tags respond well to diy cotton surgery. Get someone else to tie cotton around it while you hold it out on it's stalk.

RenniesFromHeaven · 10/03/2011 21:31

amateurarsedoctor?
