its lovely here too actually, just got back from merryhill, alive, just.

that hot cold thing is horrible saf.

mouse - basically ive got a weird thing that i hate people coming to my house unannounced, ive been like it for ages, think it stems from living in rented acommodation as a student with the landlord always 'popping' round.

anyway, his mother has 'popped' round unannounced twice in last two weeks, most recently saturday. i wasn't even dressed properly, living room covered in sick and junk, waiting for primary care to ring back and the door goes. Worse, dp had taken mole out to sleep in car. argh.

so she was being helpful and tidying and stuff and she stripped the sofa. she asked me if i wanted her to take the covers to wash and i said 'no, thanks for the offer but thats fine'.

on way back from hospital i mentioned to dp that we had got to get the covers washed, dry and back on sofa today and he says 'oh my mum took them'. I'm going 'WHAT??' How the hell am i going to get them back to put back on the sofa?? she lives miles away.

probably sounds totally stupid but I can't believe a, she asked him after i'd already said no and b, that he said yes. I feel really uncomfortable that (this is going to sound terrible) she's in a position to say 'oh yes the covers were covered in sick and i took them to help them, she wouldnt get round to it...' sorry she probably wouldnt say anything like that but im 35 and perfectly capable of doing my owb sofa cover washing.

i'm losing it aren't i?? Grin

Mouseface · 13/03/2011 13:41

Na Fups, not losing it, it's little things like that which make me want to scream 'leave it' Grin

And I'm like you, I hate people 'dropping in'.

Did anyone watch that 23 weeks thing on the prem babies.

Oh my God Sad, why did I watch it?

Just really sad SAF. A baby is now 'viable' from 23 weeks, not 22 plus 6, 23 weeks.

So many die or have such horrific disabilities. One had a hole in her heart and I saw the surgeon who did Nemo's emergency surgery again.

That took me back. He was ever so lovely. It's just hard to see because I know how the parents were feeling but weirdly, it gave me a sense of normality, like it wasn't just us that went through bad times.

Anyway, they are trying to change things because the number of babies who actually do survive, is so low compared to those that are kept alive and die a few weeks/days later.

They interviewed a girl of 21 who was prem (26 weeks) and she said how shit her life was, how scared she was about her parents dying, who would care for her, etc.... even though her parents had to pay for carers because once she left the hospital, that was it.

The NHS didn't provide any further care for her, almost 'well, we kept you alive, what more do you want from us?'

Saving 23 week prem babies is costing the tax payer and NHS millions per year, 10 million I think for all the equipment, training and the like.

But you would want that wouldn't you? You'd want them to do what they could for your baby? All the staff they interviewed said they wouldn't want them to keep their child alive because they've seen what happens.

I bet they change their minds if it was them in that boat. It is actually up to the parent/s.

Just made me think how very very lucky we are to have Nemo here at all, you know?

Sorry, not sure where that came from Blush

Off out for a walk in the afternoon sunshine, it's gorgeous still here. Smile xx

had this when i was giving birth to mole, someone came in at 23 weeks odd pregnant, obviously gone into labour but they were refused admittance to the ward and were sent to a&e instead as they classed it a 'miscarriage' as under 24 weeks. Horrible situation Sad

TotalChaos · 13/03/2011 19:57

Evening, hope you have sorted your chicken saf.

Did not feel up to watching that program Mousey, but my views are pretty much those of saf, it does not sit right with me judging others' quality of life, i think you cant know what you would feel till you are in that situation, due to nemos health issues you have more insight than most.

Mouseface · 13/03/2011 20:22

Fups - it's now 23 weeks is viable in the UK. In Holland, it's not, not sure how many weeks. Maybe 26/28?

TC - I'm not sure really, I guess that no-one expects there to be a problem unless early scans/tests have said that there is something wrong.

One lady lost triplets, two at birth (23 weeks) then the other 12 days later. The staff at Birmingham Chidren's hospital said that they'd tried CPR for 20 mins, but that the baby was brain dead so no point........they said that if after 10 mins there is no heartbeat, there's not much chance of life.

Often it's twins, one twin dies, the other stays alive for a few days.... or weeks.

Very sad but insightful. It helped me re the triplets though.

mousie - arent late abortions up to 24 weeks though? Confused so isnt that, ermm, a bit gross??

got to go to bed on that (sadly) depressing note xx

Mouseface · 13/03/2011 21:12

Yes Fups. Very Sad

Enough of this doom and gloom chat.

Today I have had a full english, and a turkey salad. Lots of water and a cup of tea, plus one Diet Coke.

I've laundered, washed, wiped and tidied. Walked the wolf and pushed the boy in the streaming sunshine.

I heard one of the neighbours mowing the lawn, Spring has sprung.

Anyway, off to bed here too.

Night night lushies, see you tomorrow xx Smile
