just in case we run out of space !

Who is that MAS, or shouldn't I ask!? Followed the link, seems a bit idiotic to me to follow such advice.

Cakesandale · 18/03/2011 10:13

Well done Sparkles, it really does seem that some movement is happening. I really, really hope so.

Teatotal is an eccentric person who posts on health threads with half-arsed remedies. She has been chased off by a combination of MN and A Member of This Thread in full scary flight (she was awesome) in the past but now we just ignore her, and some of the other misguided types who post odd things, usually in health threads, and usually encouraging people to buy stuff. Don't even follow the links, sparkles, you will do your own head in. I am not entirely sure they don't go on some kind of odd training course, all their posts seem very breathless, with odd grammar and strange turns of phrase. Anyway, try to ignore them, they do go away if you don't engage.

RWU - very, very well done on your qualifications, the job, the car - everything. Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/03/2011 10:13

she has been on this thread before and upset people

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 18/03/2011 10:26

MAS

oh dear. I am sorry to see her back.

I have just posted on that thread but, reading it back, my message just sounds opinionated. Hopefully it will spike teatotal's guns without upsetting the OP.

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/03/2011 10:44

no it's fine Cakes -don't fret

OP posts:
LimeJellyforBrains · 18/03/2011 11:13

Cakes your post was absolutely fine, well done. I have noticed several posts in the last few days (2 on this thread) covertly attempting to sell remedies/supplements. T is one I also recognise from other health threads. Best people are alerted. But I love the way we are so secure here that the cranks just get blithely ignored Grin

RWU Fantastically well done re the Accountancy exams! Smile And love your re-educating of the policeman - hope he remembers the correct wording next time Grin

Sparkle Hope the meeting at the school is going well. x

Cakesandale · 18/03/2011 11:23

Thanks, guys Smile

Yes, I was also impressed by the unspoken determination to ignore those 2 on this thread, LJ. Grin

reallywoundup · 18/03/2011 11:51

i am avoiding teatotal's post entirely- i had a significant run in with her a while back, i said some stuff, everything got deleted and i recieved a minor slap on the wrist from MNHQ! But she's proving that i was right Grin trip-trap back under the bridge Wink

smee · 18/03/2011 13:25

Grin at RWU. You do make me laugh. All round good at everything from big grown up career stuff to slapstick.

Big yeay for Sparkles. Does seem like you're getting somewhere maybe?! Confused Fingers crossed you can sort DS next.

G'ah to the cranks. I like the way we ignore them too. Definitely the way to go. Cakes the others are right, your post was sound.

Am very excited. Just been to 12 week scan with lovely BF. They've been horribly unlucky and been through several early miscarriages, so had a private scan earlier in the week to get more information. Her husband couldn't take more time off work, so I got to go to the NHS one. So, so cute and brilliant, as all's well. The baby yawned at us and did a bit of an apathetic wave. Aw.. Smile

MAS Shock at that satyr. Glad I didn't see that one when I googled last night. Dictionary definition: 'one of a class of drunken, woodland god', which is obviously incredibly appropriate for a 6 year old. Grin I hit him with an ace as soon as he got up, as had scoured round and found some ropey transfer tattoos which he loves, and I told him only a pirate could have tattoos. That no way would a Satyr ever have one. Fortunately their allure was too great, so he's a tattooed pirate. On his insistence, I have one too. Quite like it actually - a fire breathing, golden dragon. Grin

Hope everyone having treatment's feeling alright. LGF and Figgy, how's it going? And you LJ, you never tell us how you are. You are allowed, you know. Smile

LittleGreenFr0g · 18/03/2011 13:35

Well my hair is falling out thick and fast now! I have just got back from meeting a friend, and as I was chatting to her I could see loads of hair on the table Shock Luckily my hair was quite thick so its not too obvious at the moment. I grabbed the hairdresser on the way back from the school run and she will come over at the weekend. I'm now having mini panic attacks about having shaved off!

I also came back from work yesterday with another awful headache and went to bed early (again). I am fine today. Maybe its work :) I have an appointment with the Oncologist on Tuesday so will mention it.

Speaking of my Oncologist appointment, I am freaking out about that too (after having a calm couple of weeks) as I am yet to receive the results from my CT scan.

SparkleRainbow · 18/03/2011 13:37

Thank you for filling me in, I thought those two posts were a bit weird, but then that could just be me Grin

Pirate tatoos.....inspired smee Grin

Visit to the new school went well, dd1 got very shy, but she is up for going on Monday. She will do a half day, to get used to it for the first couple of days. The Head was lovely, spoke to her in a really nice way. The entire school were dressed up as pirates, teachers dinner staff, caretaker, everyone. It was fab. dd1 must thing she will be going to pirate school - a career picked out already. Junior smee would have fitted in well, and you too smee with your golden dragon! Grin

LGF, Figgy and LJ, how are you doing?

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/03/2011 13:37

am very relieved that smee junior is a pirate and not a satyr - dh once took me to see a play at the National Theatre which was full of satyrs with appendages (The Trackers of Oxyrhincus)
Lovely news about your friend too Smile
Celeste has pooed on the doormat- grrrr -think she really wants to go outside. Hope it was just an accident.
Taking ds for hair cut after school- not a favourite thing-our usual hairdresser is on maternity leave so he'll have another girl who won't be used to his squirming and unwillingness to sit quietly - it gets more awkward the older he gets as he should have got over it-he does genuinely fret about scissors though.

Figgyroll · 18/03/2011 13:42

Hello all, and a special welcome hello to Sally - sorry I missed saying it earlier.

RWU, congratulations on passing your exams and the letters after your name - well done.

Smee, well done on managing to persuade DS to be a pirate. I remember dressing up days with horror - thank goodness those days are behind me. Although No.1 Son is a primary teacher now and has to dress up thankfully he's old enough not to need his mummy to come up with ideas. Today they're having a "black and white" day. How boring is that?

I've just got back from an appointment with the oncologist who says the results from previous patients on the Avastin trial have been very encouraging and she's really positive I will have some good results too re shrinking the tumour prior to surgery. I hope so with all my heart.

Hair is shedding rapidly - just when everyone's got used to me looking like a boy and telling me how young I look I have to lose it all. How unfair. Smile Still, when it all grows back I think I might go for an urchin look.

SparkleRainbow · 18/03/2011 13:42

xposted LGF sorry

It must have been a shock to see your hair on the table, are you ok. Sad you feel panicky about having your hair shaved too. Big hugs x

SparkleRainbow · 18/03/2011 13:46

Good news hopefully then figgy, with the trial results. I too hope so.

When it all grows back figgy, the urchin look will be top fashion, with this crowd leading the way. Grin

Figgyroll · 18/03/2011 13:55

I think you're right Sparkle. Smile

LGF, I'm sorry you're losing your hair too. Horrible isn't it. I couldn't bring myself to get my head completely shaved - I went for an urchin cut but, on reflection, it was hardly worth it because it's coming out thick and fast and will probably look so revoltingly patchy in a day or two I will have to have it shaved. I hope the headaches wear off. Have you tried the headache remedy which you put on your forehead - I think it's like a big chapstick that you roll on? I don't know if it works or not but I had headaches for the first week of my cycle and will get one in case it happens again.

SallyScuttles · 18/03/2011 13:56

Well I must admit that I had never heard of a satyr but having googled it a pirate seems much better. Can't remember the last time I had a transfer tattoo, I loved them when I was about 9. I never wanted to have my bath because they would wash off, cue lots of protests to my poor, long suffering Dad!

Feeling a lot brighter today, I think sunny weather helps quite a lot. Managed to get a grip a bit, haven't even seen the GP yet so no need to panic and all that (keep saying this to myself!)

I've been out this morning trying to find a new kettle. Ours appears to be rusting which is odd as its stainless steel which I thought wouldn't rust but google reliably informs me that it just doesn't rust as easily as regular steel. Who knew?! Anyway, no where has the type of kettle I want and its hardly a tough set of criteria I have to meet. I want under £20 and brushed stainless steel rather than polished. I gave up in the end, everywhere had them on the shelves but then had none in stock. As you can see its been an exciting morning....

Cakesandale · 18/03/2011 13:56

Figgy and LGF you sound like you are doing great. it is hard to be upbeat when your hair is dropping. Getting it shaved will be relief, really. And it really isn't for long - the excitement of hair returning is something i will never forget. I nearly danced for joy the first time it was long enough to ruffle in the wind again.

Well done, smee for getting ds to go as a pirate. The satyr outfit would have caused just too many questions.

Dd's new school sounds lovely, sparkles - what must he think, having her first meeting with e head teacher dressed as a pirate?!

MAS - i am sure Celeste's toilet incident is a blip. She is bound to be uncomfy and disorientated. Not long to go now before the collar is off. Is it Monday??

SallyScuttles · 18/03/2011 13:59

Emma Watson is bringing the urchin look back in a big way I think Wink

Cakesandale · 18/03/2011 14:00

Sally - for the full horror of a satyr i suggest you scroll back a page or two and find MAS's link to a picture. Shock

Glad you are feeling better. I need a new kettle too, but can't be bothered to go look. My brushed stainless steel one is a PITA by the way - always looks grubby and finger printy, was prone to ooze water around the joins from day one, and a sod to get limescale off. The best one I ever had was white plastic....

Figgyroll · 18/03/2011 14:01

Sally, we bought a new brushed stainless steel kettle last week from Asda of all places and it was only £18.99. It looks fab and is much quieter than our last one. We have a problem with our stainless steel cutlery having rusty patches on them (I think it's something to do with water splashes). I read online that cleaning it off with a dab of toothpaste on a dry cloth would do the trick and it worked a dream. That was a few weeks ago and the rust hasn't come back yet. Give it a go.

Figgyroll · 18/03/2011 14:03

Sally - it's this one

direct.asda.com/ASDA-Illuminated-Kettle/001557260,default,pd.html

SallyScuttles · 18/03/2011 14:06

Bust a brushed steel one will match all my other grubby, finger printy brushed steel appliances!!

About a year and a half ago from a really hard water area to a really soft water area, I used to descale my kettle every month and now I haven't done it since I moved and don't miss it at all.

I know a white placky one would be best but for the first time ever I have a nice looking kitchen and so now I need a kettle that matches >

SallyScuttles · 18/03/2011 14:09

Figgy I have an Asda near here so might give that a try, it looks good and the price is right.
Sadly the rust is on the inside, it still looks fine on the outside. DD2 is on formula now and I feel guilty about the rust everytime I boil the kettle for her bottle Blush so must go buy a new one.

SallyScuttles · 18/03/2011 14:11

Will try harder to make sure my posts make some sense! I've just read my last tow posts back and both have spelling mistakes and/or missing words, must do better!
