LJ - that's a really sad story, poor woman Sad - it does make you feel sad and scared when you hear of these things, it is a bastard disease. But in some ways statistics, and other peoples stories are irrelevant, everyone is different, every journey is different, - try not to dwell - remember all the people who do well after treatment - concentrate your thoughts on them Smile

Good luck with the ultrasound tomorrow. Don't worry about it seeming quick - appointments for US usually come through pretty quickly IME and they will just try to fill up cancellations by going down the list.

IIRC my onc. appointment was about four/fvie weeks after my surgery and I started chemo about 8 wks after surgery. I think they like to give you a bit of time to recover if they can.

I understood your first paragraph. Grin

I'm feeling a bit peckish now, I must try to savour my water Grin

Oh a valentine's birthday - how lovely - coffee and walnut is my favourite cake. EnvyGrin

By the way - just because I know you'll all appreciate this Wink - apart from not eating for six hours, I also have to drink two pints of water one hour before my appointment and not empty my bladder before the scan! Confused (If that doesn't give us all wee anxiety dreams tonight I don't know what would [sorry]! Grin)

Oh my God - I hope they don't keep you waiting around! Make sure you note where the nearest loo is so you can make a dash for it when they've finished Grin

Oh Kurri thank you so much for your wise and comforting words, and advice re US and onc appointments. Had been given the impression that the onc appointment would be sooner. Can't help worrying that some kind of action will be required with the cysts - one of them is 3cm apparently! - and have already had 3 ops with GA in under 2 months! Not even thinking about them being anything other than cysts of course, no sirree .

The woman was very sad but brave and funny and very lovely too. She lives very close to me and I hope we could become friends.

Kurri again - there is one piece of cake left (pretty damn good if I say so myself). I really wish I could send/give it to you Smile

Ugh I am so good at cross-posting.

Never mind finding a loo afterwards, I can't imagine making it that far - I am afeared for the taxi-driver's seats on the way there!

Btw, it has not escaped my attention that having multiple ovarian cysts is an excellent excuse reason for weight gain and large abdomen! I knew it!

cake sounds heavenly (my favourite too) - hope you can hang on to the wee LJ Smile and that blood test is tolerable KK.

Good luck Kurri - hope your veins are obliging!

Sparkles - thinking of you trudging through your writing. Instead of me going for an ultrasound today, maybe that DLA doc fella would like to come and throw a glance up and down - that should tell us all we need to know about what's going on, shouldn't it? Still Angry for you that you are having to do this!

Figgy - thinking of you every day. Hope you are bearing up xx If the anxiety gets to you today, don't forget we are here Smile

The cake is also my favourite. Keep chomping!!

Good luck to KK re blood test and LJ with the other one - I am having wee anxieties just thinking about it.

Actually I had a wee anxiety dream last night. The loo was a chair behind a jewellery counter, run by two gay blokes, in a garden centre. DD went on it with no concerns and nipped off to eye up the earrings (her mother's girl through and through), but for me, of course, the anxiety was mounting.....

Glad to hear your Mum is vertical MAS - that's a big step forwards.

The PTA woman was just demanding information for a meeting on Thursday - she is entitled to it, but I have not got time to sort it out and provide it (Thursday is a big deadline day for me workwise, so I shall disappear in a minute), and frankly, I just objected massively to her tone. It was the way it presented requirements, deadlines and things in bold and capitals. Bloody, bloody rude.

So far I have ignored it completely, but she is going to have to be told not to address me like that - I am waiting until I can say so in a dignified way, rather than a screechy one.

Love your dream Cakes! Grin I can rarely remember my dreams these days. Good luck with your work deadline. PTA woman basically 'screeched' at you in writing, didn't she? Good on you for holding fire, that alone is dignified!

My boys were chips off the old block this morning, eating left-over fry-up for breakfast Grin. Had a fried-egg sandwich myself, seeing as I wouldn't be eating for another six hours Wink

Looks like coffee & walnut is favourite cake pretty much all round then....I am enjoying a lovely fantasy meet-up in my head: so far we have lashings of c&w cake and violet creams and .... what to drink? Actually, if cake and chocolate are involved, it will have to be a nice cup of tea, ie nice cup and nice tea Smile From a pretty teapot. On a lacy tablecloth.

Ah well, back to reality. Will go and treat myself to a nice drop of hot water....

Cakesandale · 15/02/2011 10:47

Thanks for the support LJ - I generally find it quite hard being dignified, I am more the falling over my own feet type, but I shall try...

Meet up sounds nice. Coffee and walnut cake is high on my wish list right now. Mmmmm

An egg sandwich was fortifying and absolutely justified. it really is hard fasting, isn't it? I probably shouldn't have added to the rising wee panic by mentioning my dream, but it was so off the wall that i couldn't resist.

As you can see, I am taking a premature much-needed break from work. back to it again now, though - pausing only to say again, lots and lots of luck. x

Blood test OK - although had to wait a while - a good opportunity to read an ancient copy of Heat, and learn more than I ever wanted to know about Cheryl Cole Grin

Fantasy meet up sounds great LJ - cake and posh tea - very nice Smile

Weird dream Cakes! - I keep dreaming that DH is being really annoying - and feeling very peeved with him when I wake up. - he always apologises for his poor behaviour in dreams when I tell himGrin

Lots of luck this afternoon LJ - will be thinking of you.

Hope everything is going well for your dad and mum today MAS.

Are you all able to get hold of your BC nurses when you want to? Having been told "we're always here, give us a ring any time" all I ever get is the bloody answer phone. Have left message - noticed last night I have swelling under my arm (seroma?) that needs draining - would have been good to get it done today before the ultrasound (same hospital). Grr.

Report
KurriKurri · 15/02/2011 12:18

I usually have to leave a message LJ - but they tend to get back fairly quickly. I sometimes find its quicker if you ask to speak to 'a' BC nurse rather than your specific one - as there might be one in the office at the time.

KurriKurri · 15/02/2011 12:21

If they don't contact you before you have to go, try going up to the breast clinic and asking - there's bound to be one floating around Smile

Report
Cakesandale · 15/02/2011 13:00

I second that! Just drop into the clinic, they'll drain that off in a jiffy.

Glad the test is over KK - and there is no such thing as too much information about Cheryl Cole (just ask my dd)

Report
LimeJellyforBrains · 15/02/2011 13:06

Was wondering whether to do that - go an hour or so early, drink my 2pts in situ, avoid full-bladder-jiggling journey and have plenty of time to catch up on Cheryl Cole all in one go! That means I'll have to stop chatting on here and get me skates on - yikes!

LJ, I don't like coffee in cake, so someone else can have the last piece. But that's sad about your friend - the sod about cancer is even if the stats are on your side, you never feel safe from it. Paranoia has a huge role in all of our lives, which is why we all need this place..

On Chemo, I had my op in April, but didn't start until June - they said it was to allow time to recover. And from the little I know, cysts are so, so common - I do get why you're worried, but a friend was told she has several and that they're not a problem. She was told most women don't even know they have them, so try not to fret about it too much. [stupid thing to say emoticon!]

Kurri, an ear infection makes sense - I had Labyrinthitis years ago and used to keel over regularly, was a bit scary until diagnosed. Hope Onc appt goes well tomorrow. Hope you don't mind me asking, but are you going to ask about the other breast/ preventative mastectomy?? I'm still researching/ considering, so would be keen to hear any, or all opinions.

MAS, that's brilliant about your mum being moved closer. Hope it happens, and also that your Dad's op goes okay today. Why were you drinking champagne?? Was it because of Valentine's Day, or have I missed something? My DH has left the country, which seems a bit of a drastic way to avoid being romantic. Grin

Sparkles, how's the soreness now?? Hopefully subsiding. Did you finish the dla response?

Cakes, g'ah to the PTA woman. I hate that kind of pettiness, but I'd vote for aloof too. Smile sweetly, though under the circumstances it would be acceptable to spit in her tea. Grin

Apologies, that was a bit much, wasn't it?! Wee anxiety now firmly put into my head, so a big thanks for that.

Nothing much to tell here - cat smell virtually gone, but am freezing as have had to have all the windows open. Am hunting for a second hot water bottle. Am very Envy of SR.

Figgy, if you're reading, will be thinking of you tomorrow. Be better once you know what you're facing - I'd bet that sounds strange, but where you are now is definitely the hardest part.

me,me - I'll have Smee's piece Grin

Smee - I do plan on asking about the other breast. I will let you know what is said. (I suspect, knowing my onc. he will be against it, but worth asking. Rather oddly I'm also going to inquire about reconstruction - not sure if I want one yet, but would like to talk it over with a surgeon.

Hot water bottles are very hard to come by these days I find. Unless you want a giant one with a cuddly toy sort of cover for £30. (grumpy old woman emoticon).

Report
smee · 15/02/2011 13:44

Kurri, I second the grumpy old woman emoticon - my brother and his family gave me one for my birthday. A huge huggy bear type thing, heavily scented with lavender. Re-homed it immediately, via Oxfam. Grin

On the other breast question, I spoke to a woman recently, who's going to have it done. She had to fight quite hard to convince them. She said her Onc wasn't keen, and relied on stats (not much use if you're one of the unlucky few!), but also thought they were worried about being sued. Suppose it's a viable worry, if you realised after the op it wasn't what you wanted after all. Not sure if she's right, but it's all quite interesting..

Report
LimeJellyforBrains · 15/02/2011 16:51

Phew - glad I did drop into the breast clinic - they were only just phoning me back at that time, didn't have time to see me before the US but did after, and drew off huge amount - over 200ml! No wonder I felt "a bit swollen" Grin Seriously tho, not great news, BC nurse is of the opinion that my tendency to produce/retain lots of lymph fluid means I am more at risk of lymphodoema - bugger. Have appointment for it to be done again in week's time, or sooner if necessary.

As to the ultrasound, good news but strangely unnerving or dissatisfying or something: she couldn't see any cyst in my liver, and only the one big 3cm one on left ovary. Am disconcerted by 'disappearing' cysts, but delighted it sounds like no action required. Can't blame PCOS for weight or bloated tummy then, damn!

Report
KurriKurri · 15/02/2011 17:27

Well I bet you're glad to get rid of that LJ - must have been very uncomfortable. Shock

I hope it settles down now, fingers crossed you don't get any longer term problems with it.

Good news that nothing needs to be done about the cyst, and that there's no problem with your liver - odd but good news Smile

Hope your dad's op went well MAS, and your Mum has had a good day today.

LJ -so glad you got drained but a bit alarming about poss. lymphoedema and good news too I think with ultrasound.
Will be thinking of figgy tomorrow especially.
Dad's op went very well- no pain and his eye looks pretty ok-left him there at 1pm and had coffee and then bought my mum a frescato from Costa which she loved -it's so hot in the ward that something chilly is a relief. She seemed very well, had been walking but is finding it tiring and painful. The physio was there and was saying that mum will be an excellent candidate for the community hospital as they do a lot of rehabilitation there..plus of course it's a short drive away. Collected dad and took him up to see mum briefly (only 1 hour's visiting time) then brought him home. He and my brother who is up for a couple of days are coming to supper. Taking dad tomorrow as he can't drive for a bit.

MAS - Very glad your dad's op went well (but wincing still at the thought of it), and the community hospital sounds like a good move for your mum. What a lovely close family you are! Smile

Of course I don't know for sure there'll be no action on the cysts, but the sonographer certainly seemed to think even the big one wasn't anything special!

I'm pleased your dad's op went well MAS - and once it's healed he will be able to see so much better I imagine.
