Not what the hypnotherapist could call a resounding success.

smee · 16/03/2011 11:03

I did have to stop myself putting up a post on his 'feedback' page. Grin

B'ah to your petty bureaucrat, Sparkles. I wish you a calming Brew and Biscuit.

SparkleRainbow · 16/03/2011 11:58

Thank you smee come and join me Brew

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/03/2011 12:34

good heavens- you have all been busy and I've only been out for a short time !
Welcome Sally - I can't add anything to what the others have said- do stick around here for handholding and japes.
Sparkle- hooray for good news-no further treatment but an eye on you sounds good and sensible Grin
Am a huge fan of aqueous- use it on my face as regular moisturiser makes me itch.
Saw Celeste's sister too- she is identical
Am a bit scared of you all being stern about my smear- I will go,but I have to psych myself up for it..last one hurt and I can cope with almost anything but truly dread these !
My work is delivered - we had coffee and lemon puffs -I now need to buy a pack of lemon puffs as it's now in my head and they are so delicious. Btw -there were chocolate brownies last night at bookgroup which I refused [smug emoticon]

meandmy - please do contact me- I can let you know about Mindfulness -if you wanted I could copy my cds which I use for guided meditation (these very good for people beginning meditation practice-I use them mostly as it helps me focus)

gah- that bit about Celeste's sister was meant to go at the end

Hello to meanymyfour - it's lovely here, a place for advice, sympathy, a laugh and a moan. The ladies really are wonderful.

Well, exactly 2 weeks after my first chemo session my hair has decided to jump ship. It's coming out at the rate of knots so am going to get it chopped either today or tomorrow. My wig arrived - it's lovely, very like my real hair, which isn't particular lovely but I'm so pleased that it's so like my own that people wont need to do a double take. I've also ordered a few ready-tied headscarves, a jersy hat and a couple of bed hats from

www.annabandana.co.uk/

Check out the prices - very competitive, I think. The ladies from Headstrong who demonstrated scarf tying techniques to me on Monday afternoon recommended them.

I've managed to work all three mornings this week and thankfully the side effects all seem to have abated for the time being except for incredibly itchy hands - both palms and backs.

Cakesandale · 16/03/2011 13:10

Hi Figgy - sounds pretty typical. Huge sympathies, though, it is horrible. Getting it chopped will help loads. I was recommended to shampoo and condition my bald head each day: the shampoo I could understand, the conditioner rather less so, but i did it, and my hair came back good and strong and exactly the same as before (which isn't anything particularly terrific, but it's nice to revert to normality). In the meantime I am glad your wig is lifelike, that'll help.

I hope this talk of falling hair hasn't put the eebie-jeebies up you, sally: we spend quite a bit of time talking hairloss as it is quite something when it happens. I have had my hair back for over 12 months now and I am still not sure I've got over it.

MAS I am CRAVING lemon puffs now, haven't had any in years. I was going to ask how you were doing on the chocolate thing: I haven't had any either, which is going some for me Dd asks me sternly every day if I have had any, she is really quite impressed, I think.

SallyScuttles · 16/03/2011 13:22

Just got back in, I took the girls out to the park and had lunch out to keep us occupied. They are both suitably exhausted now and fast asleep thankfully. Thanks for making me so welcome here, its nice to have somewhere to be open.

Don't worry about scaring me off with talk of wigs etc, I remember my mum's wig, the chemo, the mastectomy and all that its just that I only remember it from a childs perspective if you understand what I mean.

LimeJellyforBrains · 16/03/2011 14:20

Hi everyone, goodness it is taking me ages just to read/absorb let alone be able to put a post together! I am doing about the same as LGF I think: main problems are not sleeping (with accompanying headaches and shakiness) and mouth. Better night (with Zop) last night. Which mouthwash is best? That Corsodyl Daily is mentioned everywhere but in fact it has alcohol in it which is not ideal for gums. I remembered this after I had gone out and bought 2 bottles of the stuff! I got the GP to give me some Difflam but have been 'saving' this for if/when things get worse as don't think you can use it for long periods.

Sparkle - Yay thrice over for results!! Phew is not the word?? If it's any very small consolation, just yesterday I was given a copy of the report arising from an (unannounced) visit to observe DS2 in school which took place last December (promised at start of school year). So that's six+ months' more struggling with (for example) writing, when some of the suggestions (dictaphone, laptop etc) could have been implemented or at least tried. Sad thing is the report does include some other really worthwhile observations/ideas which we could have done with at the start of school year. By the time any changes are made or teacher resources accessed, he'll be changing year/class/teacher and ime that means starting from scratch Sad and Angry.

Sally - welcome but sorry you're here at the same time! Smile Just wanted to add my two pennyworth: For me the GP appt was just a formality (I had a 5 min emergency appt, on my own) - he just had a quick feel and booked me onto the breast clinic(told me guidelines said that should take place within 2 weeks). So I also feel it might be worth trying to be seen earlier, Nurse sounds a good way round, as GP can't do proper tests, only the breast clinic, and you have to wait all over again for that I'm afraid, having already worried your way through to Saturday.

Cakesandale · 16/03/2011 14:28

Hi LJ, glad you are Ok and still have the energy to be cross about ds2's treatment. They are so bloody slow, aren't they? Angry

I am not sure about the mouthwashes as i really did not suffer with my mouth at all. I was given Difflam but only used it about three times, the other times I used saltwater but only to ward off problems, not fix any.

Sally, well done for getting out in the fresh air. It all helps.

KurriKurri · 16/03/2011 14:29

So many posts - I can't keep up!

Welcome Sally Smile - I agree with everyones advice, I would also add, I didn't have pain with my cancer, and I couldn't feel a lump - just noticed a nipple change. When I was younger (in my thirties) I had a couple of pea like lumps in my other breast - they turned out to be harmless and disappeared on their own.

Now I know that doesn't really help you - but just saying try not to go into panic mode yet Smile The waiting is horrid and scary, you don't need to pull yourself together, just try to take it a day at a time until your appointment. use us all you need to for handholding and support, that is what we're her for Smile (we like to chat about cake as well Grin)

Sparkles GrinGrinGrin for your good news - that's brilliant, and must be a relief to you. Don't you dare go away - we've got you in our clutches now, there's no escape Grin

Hmm about the SEN guy having written - as Cakes says, he is scribbling a letter as we speak!

Meandmyfour - you have had a really rough time haven't you? - Just one of those major events would throw anyone, and it sounds as if you are doing really well, coping with all the emotions, the treatment and looking after your family on your own sounds incredibly hard work. You can always come here for a rant or a moan when things are getting you down - we all do it (I am queen moan )Grin

Hooray for clear smear Smee that's great. (throws in a nag for MAS). I am slightly sad about the demise of the chameleon costume - I was looking forward to photos Grin, but I appreciate pirates are easier. (My DD was friends at secondary school with a lad who had lost his leg when very young. He always did Long John Silver at fancy dress parties Grin - he also used to take off his prosthesis and put it on his desk, to disconcert new teachers Grin)

Figgy I'm glad the wig has arrived and you are happy and confident with it Smile- the hair jumping ship is a bit weird (mine came off all at once like a big hairy hat Shock) but you sound remarkably upbeat about everything, good for you Smile

Cakes I can understand associating fitness with illness. I was playing the piano a lot (having lessons etc.) during my DX period, I've hardly touched the piano since - it's too linked in my head. I also threw away all the clothes I wore to my appointments during DX - I knew I'd never be able to wear them comfortably again. (mad but true)

I glad your mum is continuing to improve MAS, she's done really well considering the seriousness of her fall.

Don't want to make this too long (although that ship's probably already sailed) so will stop now. Lots of love to all - Hope LJ and LGF are feeling OK today.

KurriKurri · 16/03/2011 14:36

Sorry that was a huge post - well done if you got through it. And I x-posted with you LJ.
My GP recommended gargling and washing mouth out with 2 soluble asprin/disprin (in about half a glass of water) four times a day. I found it eased the pain a bit and helped with healing. Also they can give you stuff to put on ulcers - a sort of paste and also little tablets you place on the sore bit and let it dissolve, so ask if you think you need it, they are a pain I know Sad

Cakesandale · 16/03/2011 14:50

I like the picture in my mind of a big hairy hat just lifting off Grin

That about the clothes strikes a chord KK. And I have kept all my scarves, I am sort of superstitious about getting rid. The wig has gone, but only because dh up-ended a drink into it Grin

LimeJellyforBrains · 16/03/2011 14:52

Cakes I have read the letter myself but haven't shown DH yet as he will be much, much crosser than I have the energy for and will Demand Action. And it is my job to push for/follow up actions and ideas, I am the one around during the day, talking to the teacher etc. Gave myself the day off from it yesterday as feeling lousy, girding my loins!

SparkleRainbow · 16/03/2011 14:53

It was a very good post, well done kurri Grin

Must go ds is about to throw up again, have to get dd1 from school and she has her first riding lesson at 4.30 too...... RWU will be proud.

I am feeling a bit frazzled as to how I am going to manage vomiting son and horse riding daughter, but heh, we will get there ! Grin

LimeJellyforBrains · 16/03/2011 14:54

Kurri you have also given me a big Grin re the hairy hat - fab image! You've lifted me before the school/tea run!

Pah to Lemon Puffs by the way, nasty things to me!

Cakesandale · 16/03/2011 15:07

I await news of dh's righteous and vengeful anger with interest, LJ!

Good luck with the vomit and the horse sparkles - oh, and the kids too Smile

Off to pick up dd and go to see if there are any tickets left for the Netherlands State Circus

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/03/2011 15:56

I remember lalaa (my SIL who had bc 5 years ago) getting my brother to shave her hair so it was really like suede and the falling out wasn't then so traumatic- well it was- but not perhaps as bad as seeing hanks of it on your pillow..I am sorry that you girls and now Figgy have to go through this.
Good luck with vomiting ds and the riding lesson sparkle
and will also be interested to hear about dh LJ !
Where is Orlando ??!

OP posts:
SparkleRainbow · 16/03/2011 17:45

Riding lesson a great success, after inital panics on her part. We are going again next week! Vomiting abated for now, so bonus al round! Grin

LJ, I completely understand where you are coming from with being the one to push things forward, same here. Will I be able to hear your dh hit the roof from here in Staffs? Incidentally, still no communication from LA this end, am considering drastic action, will let you know just before! > Wink

What are lemon puffs, have I had a sheltered upbringing? Confused

SparkleRainbow · 16/03/2011 17:46

Orlando, Orlando come here little guy!

KurriKurri · 16/03/2011 17:52

I'm glad the riding went well Sparkles Smile

I'll also be listening out for LJ's DH.

Piece of trivia - my BIL is from Staffs Grin he used to take me and my sister riding on the back of his motorbike round a field near their house(all three of us at once, clinging on - highly dangerous no doubt but good fun.)

Don't know what's happened to DH - he was giving blood at 4pm and said he'd be straight home afterwards - he's about an hour late, hope he's OK (slightly worried but not panicking yet emoticon)

LimeJellyforBrains · 16/03/2011 18:03

Gosh, that makes DH sound like The Lord with "righteous and vengeful anger" Grin You have almost made me feel in awe of him myself......nah! I had better not let on all your expectations or he'll have performance anxiety! He'll probably just draft another stern letter. Doh! Have just remembered already have meeting arranged with the woman who observed DS and did the report - next week. Shall listen to The Lord and then attempt (through chemobrain) to do my best for DS2. Better take copious notes before, during, and after! Confused

Sparkle: Lemon puffs are nasty, shiny, dry 'biscuits' made of puff pastry impregregnated with very false lemon flavour. Others may provide you with an alternative definition...

SparkleRainbow · 16/03/2011 18:08

Grin about dh having performance anxiety LJ

Lemon puffs do not sound at all appealing thus far!

Any sign of dh yet kurri?

KurriKurri · 16/03/2011 18:13

He's just got back - he had some stuff to do at work so went back after giving blood - but he has brought me two bottles of lucozade - because I was sick yesterday, and I like lucozade Grin so I will let him off this time.

KurriKurri · 16/03/2011 18:15

Good description of lemon puffs LJ - think 'soap' for the filling Sparkle Grin
