I am a fool for leaving it till now to go for a smear test, I know this.
I am booked in for a colposcopy on Tuesday and am really scared.
I know that most people with this will be fine, but I also know that most of those that are not are the idiots like me who left a decade between smears.
I was just wondering if anyone felt like sharing their experiences with me. Also if anyone knows how long it takes to get the results of the colposcopy?

Hi Sorelip,

Congratulations on your wedding.

As everyone above said, its really not that bad. But it is scary, I spent days on the web sites people linked to on here and a couple of others as I always feel better armed with facts and figures.

Have you got an appointment date? I hope you don't have to wait long as that really is the hardest part.

My appointment date is 25th Feb, so not long to wait. I'm just wondering whether to take the whole day off from work, or to attempt to go back after the appointment is finished.

usedtobeyoung · 12/02/2011 11:37

I felt a bit sore from the biopsy, and mild period like pains. I'm at home with babies at the moment so didn't have to worry about work, but I would of been been fine to go in I think. Obviously it depends how active your job is.

It's an office job, so I spend all day sitting down. Should be OK to go in after then.

emmaplus3 · 25/02/2011 09:00

hi i have been told i have only moderate dyskaryosis but wanted some advice as i was trying for a baby before this and i had to go back onto the pill i am so dissapointed and i feel realy angree about it and all i get from my family is that i am haveing treatment and i have no choice about it (coz like who are they to preach to me) i know i am going to need treatment and i just wanted to know if anyone know how long i have to wait till i can try again or if i can ever try again i just feel so alone as i have stoped talking to my family about this now as it just ends up in an argument all the time.

so please if anyone can help me or give me some advice please

Kewcumber · 25/02/2011 10:33

my gynae didn't make me wait at all after treatment for severe dyskaryosis, said it was fine to contine ttc and if further treamtent was required that it could be done safely whilst prgnant. And he was the head of the fertility unit so I assume he knew what he was talking about.

Sorelip · 25/02/2011 14:27

I had my colposcopy today. My cervix is ugly! I was told to look away from the monitor when the biopsies were being taken, but I couldn't keep my eyes away...I wish I had.

Now at home in my pyjamas with a cup of tea. Now begins the wait for results.

expatinscotland · 25/02/2011 14:29

Fingers crossed for you!

usedtobeyoung · 25/02/2011 15:29

Hi sorelip Hope your feeling ok. How long did they say it would be until you receive your results?

emmaplus3 hope it goes ok for you too.

emmaplus3 · 25/02/2011 15:45

hi sorelip i hope your results come through fast and hope its all ok for you.

i am glad i found this thread it makes me feel better just reading that is not all as bad as i thought it would be

emmaplus3 · 25/02/2011 17:06

Kewcumber thankyou for that hope that is the same from me i hold out hope

rabbitstew · 25/02/2011 17:07

Kewcumber - not sure you're being clear what not waiting at all after treatment means? I'm quite sure you don't mean having sex the day after, when your cervix hasn't healed? Do you mean not waiting for the biopsy results, either, where the biopsy and treatment are performed on the same day?

Kewcumber · 25/02/2011 19:31

No rabbit - not waiting as in waiting 6 months! Of course follow normal recommendations re wiating for normal healing and biopsy results which are (if not same day) certianly pretty quick. Emma was talking about waiting to try or even not trying again at all - was just pointing out that no prolonged wait was necessary.

Apologies if you thought I did indeed mean you should be having unprotected sex the day after any treatment Emma.

emmaplus3 · 25/02/2011 19:48

sorry i am confuseing every one

BelaLugosiinStripes · 25/02/2011 22:37

Hi emma
I replied to you on your post on the other thread here

emmaplus3 · 26/02/2011 01:04

oh no i knew what you ment so you have been told to wait 6 months to try for another a baby but i will have this chat with my doc as i dont realy want to wait for longer than i have to as i realy want another child asap as if this abnormal test could come back over the next few years or so as i have read on hear i want to have my children now and not risk not beeing able to have more children later on in my life as i love my kids and do want a big family and hope this will not stop me from doing so

Sorelip · 26/02/2011 13:10

Thank you expatinscotland, usedtobeyoung and emmaplus3. I feel much better today, still a little crampy but it will pass. The lady that carried out the colposcopy said the results can take up to 6 weeks, but my doctor seems to think it will be quicker. Here's hoping!

Emmaplus3, I've been trying for a baby myself, so to get that result from the smear really upset me at first. I'm going to wait until after any treatment has been finished to try again, just in case. But the wait is going to be very hard :(

usedtobeyoung · 26/02/2011 15:09

Glad your feeling better sorelip hope i wasn't overly optimistic about you going to work after your colposcopy.

OP posts:
emmaplus3 · 26/02/2011 18:24

sorelip i hope your results come thro sooner than that that is a very long wait and i hope things go ok for you.

Sorelip · 26/02/2011 19:01

Tbh, I might have been OK had I not looked at that screen. It gave me the horrors! Had to drink a bottle of cherry coke just to pep me up a bit!

emmaplus3 · 02/03/2011 18:20

hey so i am off for my colposcopy first thing in the morning am nerves about going am sure it will be over so in very short time

Kewcumber · 02/03/2011 22:21

good luck

rabbitstew · 03/03/2011 08:05

I looked at the screen, too...You just have to remind yourself it's all hugely magnified and they haven't made a mess THAT big. Also, after it's healed it looks perfectly lovely again!...

emmaplus3 · 03/03/2011 14:42

hi thankyou i have been very sore now relaxing at home now i only looked at the screen while they were showing me were the bad cells were then looked away. the treatment hurt alot while they were doing it even tho i had the injection to stop the feeling there. i think it was were the cells were which was the problem because they were slightley inside the cervix so it was very painful .

emmaplus3 · 03/03/2011 19:20

hi rabbit what do you know what the treatment you had was called if you dont mind me askin i am now wondering what i have had done tryed to look it up on the net but cant find much info i had a Diathermy loop done today or if any one euls has had this and dont mind chatting about it
