OMG I have just rung up a charity that offers group behavioural therapy, discussed my phobia with someone over the phone and she is sending me details to join one of the groups. I feel completely wrung out and can't stop crying, but it is a step I have to take. O M G.

Well done.

suzywong · 10/10/2005 14:33

Good for you?

brw, that is your phobia if you don't mind me asking?

Aero · 10/10/2005 14:33

That's great LM. Well done for making that call. Can't have been easy.

Lonelymum · 10/10/2005 14:35

emetophobia, the world's most stupid phobia for mothers.

If this is how I am after a phone call, how will a group therapy session leave me?

OP posts:
Lonelymum · 10/10/2005 14:36

sorry, meant to say after emetophobia (fear of vomiting or in my case, fear of my children vomiting)

gravity · 10/10/2005 14:38

its not stupid

a phobia is a phobia, you dont pick or choose it

good for you, that was a ginormous step to make. be proud of yourself! x

Lonelymum · 10/10/2005 14:46

No but I feel stupid for having had kids when I knew I had the phobia. Sorry, don't listen to me. I can't believe the fact that it is 20 mins since I put the phone down and I am still shaking!

Phobias are always embarassing. I'm not good with needles. I can cope, but I really do get stressed out. Well done for taking steps, anyway.

What charity is it, if you don't mind me asking? I keep meaning to do something about my phobia ...

Lonelymum · 10/10/2005 14:53

It is called TOP UK (Triumph over Phobia) You can look up their website but they are only in certain places in the UK.

Mum2girls · 10/10/2005 16:07

oh god LM - what can you do - put him in the shower?

Mum2girls · 10/10/2005 16:08

sorry, it's DD - can you put her in the shower and ask her to take all her clothes off, then leave them for DP/DH to sort out?

Lonelymum · 10/10/2005 16:08

I have put her to bed with a bucket. God I feel awful, clammy, shaking. I need the therapy.

I have done the clothes Mum2girls. They are in the washing machine. I have cleaned her shoes with wet wipes - is that the best thing to do?

OP posts:
Mum2girls · 10/10/2005 16:10

but you've dealt with it - and weel done for that. Wet wipes on shoes? yes fine, then I'd put them outside just to air them a bit. When is DP/DH due home?

Lonelymum · 10/10/2005 16:12

I have asked him to come home ASAP but I think he said he couldn't leave until 4:30 and he is 40 mins away.

He is meant to be going away again later this week (away three nights). I can't let him go. You see, for me, the worst thing is now waiting for everyone else to get it and it can take a week for it to go through everyone.

Mum2girls · 10/10/2005 16:13

LM - only if it's a bug - it could be that she just ate something that didn't agree with her. My fingers are crossed for you that this is the case..

Lonelymum · 10/10/2005 16:13

A huge emotinal scene is going to happen tonight in this house. But I can't let him go. I can't. I can't. Oh god, I am sooooooooooooo scaaaaaaaaarreeeeeeeeeeeeeedddddddddd.

Good Luck lonely mum,you have been really brave today . Making the phone call is a big step and then having a horrible reminder of why you are doing it.

Lonelymum · 10/10/2005 16:15

She came out of school very white saying she had a pain in her chest. I said Do you feel sick and she said no but she isn't often ill and doesn't know what it feels like I think. Anyway, she said she felt the pain before lunch and yet she still ate her lunch so it doesn't sound as though it was anything she ate.

OP posts:
Mum2girls · 10/10/2005 16:15

Has she been sick since - how's she feeling?

colette · 10/10/2005 16:17

Ds had it on saturday - just one episode and was fine aftet . No-one else has got it - hope it is the same for you

Lonelymum · 10/10/2005 16:21

Thanks Colette. I have been reading about some other Mumsnetters families who have been ill lately and it sounded really bad. It has been winding me up something terrible reading their accounts. I know I should not read them, but I can't help myself. In fact, I got so wound up, and also wound up with dh for going away again that that was what prompted me to phone the therapy people.

She was pretty sick on the way home but hasn't been since, Mum2girls, and now she is asleep but she looks awfully pale.

Lonelymum · 11/10/2005 11:28

Well, I am still hanging on in there just. I have spent a dreadful night - no the children haven't all been ill, but I have this ludicrous fear they will be and I am just sitting waiting for it. I feel like I can't breathe today, like I am drowning. I don't know why I am writing this, I just feel I need to put it down.
