am Angry !! outrageous behaviour of Zenith man...bastard- well done to ds ..
We had as man wanting me to sign up to support deaf children I think- then and there-no time to look at the info and think-he'd given ds who was about 7 a kids pack which the charity provided (he'd talked his way into the house) When I refused to sign anything he was really arsey and unpleasant and snatched the kids pack from ds and left- I was really stunned !
Cakes- I was good and didn't look Grin
phil - thank you- no I didn't write any of the poems -they are really good though !!
Have just unblocked my loo -a relief as the men from Homeserve were booked to come and I wasn't sure how long it'd take !! I think those parazone lav cleaning wipes probably accumulate - ooh I do hate anything like that happening.

That'd be enough to drive to a frenzy of nerve-related wee-ing

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/01/2011 15:56

indeed !

Hi, If I don't like the look of a door salesman I say I've just had a bereavement so will they go away immediately - it works!

Insurance - We had annual policy for the family via the Bank. When I rang them prior to my travels last October they said they would cover me for Europe but not for anything cancer-related. So for now I'm stticking to Europe and hoping things might improve in a year or two. I gained the impression that the US would be extremely expensive to get insured for now, if you've had cancer.

I think the best we might get for beyond Europe is cover for conditions other than cancer. Bummer, but then for most of us nothing would happen very fast re the cancer, so I reckon we'd have time to get home. It has made me more cautious in my mind though, about any future trips into the jungles! (Glad I went to Oz when I did ie before all this)

Beware - when you ring they ask a lot of very direct questions such as - in a chirpy voice - 'Is it terminal?'.

The radio 4 piece on this subject mentioned Insurepink for BC patients although I didn't contact them myself.

I think I did ring my car insurance after the op but they weren't interested. Never thought about telling them about chemo and merrily drove myself about! (not after Epirubicin though)

Cakesandale · 21/01/2011 09:32

Useful input SR, thanks for that!

I'll have a look at Insurepink then. It is mad the barriers hey set up around cancer - as you say, for most people, nothing is likely to happen very fast.

In the meantime I'll brace for questions from insensitive bastards salespeople.

SparkleRainbow · 21/01/2011 12:41

KK Angry and Shock some people are unbelieveable. DS gets many brownie points. Grin

MAS nervous weing frenzy on your behalf. Blocked toilets and spetic tank pipe are the bane of my life. Keeps happening, mainly because dd1 (now five) uses half roll of toilet paper everytime she goes, just to be sure. Grin Am out regularly in pj's rubber gloves and wellies, standing ankle deep in TMI rodding the drains.....ahhh a country life! Grin

Just out of interest, the surgeon said my car insurance wouldn't cover me for couple of weeks after surgery, but then it would be fine. I wasn't going to bother to say anything to car insurance, just not drive until after 2 weeks, but what do you think?

SparkleRainbow · 21/01/2011 12:42

MAS should be weeing, septic and any other spelling errors or typos.....sorry, brain rubbish and fingers working randomly over keyboard! Blush

Cakesandale · 21/01/2011 12:55

Personally I'd go with you on that. Don't drive, but say nowt.

And of course, the very best of luck. How are you feeling? Positive, I hope!

Rodding drains. Yikes. Of course that will be out for a couple of weeks, as well

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/01/2011 12:56

Grin @ sparkle and dd1 with her loo roll- and wouldn't you know it-I had a weeing anxiety dream last night...

OP posts:
SparkleRainbow · 21/01/2011 13:18

Am trying hard to feel positive, secretly terrified, now hanging on to positive that dh has to take over drain rodding for next two weeks, and chicken mucking out, dog walking, dog poo cleaning up.....oo how many other icky jopbs can I think of Grin

KurriKurri · 21/01/2011 13:27

I think you're fine if you don't intend to drive Sparkle.

Grin at the loo roll and toilet blockage - we have been there with a small girl too!

Thanks for support over nasty salesman - even though it was ages ago, I still find it quite upsetting - I think it was because normally I would never let that happen, - I'm quite good at telling them to push off - but I was very vulnerable and poorly at the time.

Shows how easy it is for old people and other vulnerable folk to be taken advantage off Sad

I am trying to plough through loads of ironing - our iron broke a couple of weeks ago and it has built up to mountainous proportions (dog is enjoy perching on top of the heap though Grin)

Phil - in case you're not on here over the weekend, loads of hugs and good thoughts for Monday Smile

SparkleRainbow · 21/01/2011 13:29

Grin at KK dog balanced on ironing

philmassive · 21/01/2011 13:32

Thanks kk, have got a day off work today as time owing and was planning to do lots of cleaning and other householderly things, but guess what, here I am! 'Tis a terrible thing to be a chatter addict!

Still feeling quite chipper at the moment, again. Managing to put things to the back of my mind. Amazing how a bit of sunshine helps!

Off now to clean the whole house from top to bottom before 3pm! Wish me luck!

sandripples · 21/01/2011 13:42

Sparkle - yes I think you'd be fine with that approach. My problem was that my arm was so sore after first op. Can't actually remember now when I started driving after it!

Good luck to those getting reults or treatment in the next few days.

I am at home at the mo while man repairs freezer.

SparkleRainbow · 21/01/2011 13:42

Go phil....total house clean in 1.5 hours.....mine is so bad don't feel I could even tackle a room in that time, and we have a little cottage! Grin

Cakesandale · 21/01/2011 13:46

Cleaning??? Ironing????? I can't bear it, I'm off.....

SparkleRainbow · 21/01/2011 13:49

Come back cakes.....come back....Grin.....dust bunnies rolling here too.

Have no fear I am not really doing cleaning, I am waiting for you to write back to me! Smile

Cakesandale · 21/01/2011 14:19

Ah well, in that case I am back Wink

Never went too far to be honest. I have SO MUCH writing to do at the moment I am paralysed into inaction. Have just put Stockholm Syndrome on very loud and had a bit of an air guitar moment, but am not sure it has helped with inspiration (put a smile on my face though)

philmassive · 21/01/2011 14:26

Aaaagh! Have been attacked by a dust bunny!

I've come back here to calm down from the shock! Grin

They can be vicious things when riled, you know.

Cakesandale · 21/01/2011 14:29

There may well be prehistoric life still clinging on in the back of some of my cupboards......

Have a cuppa and a nice biscuit Phil.

KurriKurri · 21/01/2011 15:10

Is this working??? I just posted a long uber-amusing post Grin about ironing and it disappeared off the page before I even posted.

My internet has been up to all sorts of tricks this afternoon, it cut out all together at one point. Confused

I've done about a quarter of my ironing, there is so much left. (Anything that is only semi-creased is getting ruthlessly stuffed in the cupboard without being ironed Grin)

Cakesandale · 21/01/2011 16:08

I think the site is struggling a bit this afternoon KK. probably too hard to keep up with all the massively witty posts Wink Speaking as someone who never irons, I am massively impressed at your industry.

SparkleRainbow · 21/01/2011 18:45

I thought it was just my computer that was playing up. Think it must be all the journalists lurking trying to find either more about R or just lurking. Still I have had an interesting response from LA this afternoon, seem awfully keen to help ds at the moment, think that my loud and persistent complaining about their treatment of ds due his to disabilities may rather have hit a nerve! Still may come to nothing, but the fight goes on.

Total amount of cleaning done today 0
Total amount time spent in meeting with LA 2 hours
Total amount of time spent threatening LA 2.5 hours
Total amount spent having cuppa with a friend to catch up on missed gossip 1 hour
Total amount of chatting on mumnet.....too high to calculate.

A successful day I guess, kept my mind off Monday though. Am going to take my notebook so I can strategise (sorry USA word although can't bring myself to spell it with a z)about next steps for NHS, DLA and LA fights. That will take my mind off impending surgery.

Cakes - I am so gad you didn't go far Grin

SparkleRainbow · 21/01/2011 18:48

Serious now - I have been through all the paperwork they sent me for Monday. I know about what food and drink I can have and when, but they have provided nothing about what else they would recommend I take. So surgery novice here..... I was thinking taking fully charged mobile, book to read, something to do, change of clothes - loose joggers and t shirt or something, which I can either wear as clothes or nightwear, slippers so I don't have to get up in barefeet to go to loo after op. Is this way off, about right? Not done anything like this before, even had my last dc at home so..... help?

sandripples · 21/01/2011 19:02

Hi Sparkel,

Don't forget a top that buttons up the front as its easier to put on than a T-shirt. PJs with button-top are useful.

Dressing gown and slippers and hairbrush and toiletries - I love a fresh flannel myself so several of those if you share this passion! 2 towels.
Book and mag - yes
You might not be allowed to use a mobile phone but my ward had wonderful gadget with combined phone, internet and TV and radio all in one. It swung down from the ceiling. I loved it and watched Andy Murray playing in Melbourne during our night-time/early morning! (This week last year!) You need a bank or credit card to buy your rental of this.
Anything special you like in the way of soft drinks?
All very best wishes for next week.
