here we go !

oh sparkle-realy hope it is good news, but it will be better to know exactly what you're dealing with- whatever the outcome we are here for you. Hope Cakes get redressed and that it all heals up quickly.
Didn't go to the funeral as mum couldn't and obviously needed looking after- dad went-I made mum some lunch and we spent a companionable time together until he got back. He said it was very nice to see everyone after so long. I tried to get into the Catholic church up the road to light a candle but it was locked up- I said 'bugger' loudly.
Lit one this evening. The order of service had a very nice photo of her on it,just as we remembered her.
Stairlift in next week, all being well. Mum moving about a bit more- she seems quite cheery !
Was a treat to see Margaret on the Apprentice - Stuart Baggs is so repulsive-I do want to smack his chubby face. I though Karren Brady looked lovely on You're Fired - nice hair style.
Lots of love to all- sorry to have abandonned you today-dh working from home so couldn't get near computer .

Hello all,

I'm tired as have been at work then went to Chester to have a meal with former colleagues, so just got in.

However, Sparkle, just want to send hugs and say don't imagine the worst, as its better to deal with what you know - one step at a time as before. Good luck for MOnday and yes do have someone with you.

XX xx

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/12/2010 07:07

I forgot to add yesterday- I wrote a note to my doctor asking to be prescribed the Wockhardt tamoxifen by name on my prescription,to be sure of getting that- the pharmacist in Boots suggested this as a different brand was delivered to them last time and I had to get it elsewhere- useful tip !
Hope you all have a good and safe day if out in the ice- ds finishes school at lunchtime- hope he remembers coat/PE kit and to hand out his cards...
Parents builder friend is coming up from Bath to adjust the top stair in prep. for stairlift next week.
Sparkle- hope you are coping and not to anxious-one step at a time is best. Thinking of you and sending loving kindness.

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 17/12/2010 10:08

Sparkle - bugger indeed. But as everyone else has said, it will be a good thing to know what you are dealing with. Wine, Smarties, cuddles with the kids - it's all the way forward until Monday. Sending mahoosive virtual hugs and reminding you to keep breathing deeply. Remember we have all been there, and we are still here and talking rubbish, getting on with life.

Stuart Baggs certainly is a worm. I could not STAND him. It was pretty clear Margaret couldn't either. I hope his business is a success because I can't see anyone overcoming their dislike enough to employ him. And i agree, Karren Brady looked great on You're Fired - i thought she looked a bit rubbish on the show itself.

MAS - making the effort to go and light a candle, and then doing it at home is every bit as good as getting into the church.

Well done smee for dealing with the scary kid - she'll probably go far in life..

My arm is re-dressed thanks and the nurse didn't think it was infected. it feels a bit hot and sore today, and my thumb keeps twitching. I am not overly concerned, but just keeping a watch. Apparently i shouldn't drive - which is a bit of a sod.

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/12/2010 10:35

well done Cakes - hope it's soon feeling better-and not twitchy. Not driving is indeed a bugger. Am off to see if mum is ok today..I have bought her a copy of The Lady, which is quite entertaining.

My BF and I used to find quite nice self catering holiday lets in The Lady when we were mad to go off by ourselves in our late teens - let by genteel people in genteel buildings in genteel seaside towns like Brighton and Bournemouth. Our Mums used to let us go because they must be OK if they were in The Lady Xmas Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/12/2010 12:42

Xmas Grin friends of my parents always advertised their holiday cottage in The Lady

OP posts:
SparkleRainbow · 17/12/2010 12:43

Xmas Grin smee for scary kid.....a future Apprentice perhaps!

Fact for smee - I think orange smarties go with everything Xmas Grin

Thank you for all your positive messages. I am trying not to let my imagination run away with me, hard but trying. Dh is coming with me on Monday, and lovely friend who came with me before is having the dc, so that is all sorted. She also popped round last night with a bunch of roses and a bottle of wine, to get me through the evening. I told my mum last night, and she had a good cry, so hard to know what to do in these circumstances.

Anyway,

Well done MAS on persevering (sp?) with lighting a candle to remember her. Funny about funerals, it is always so good to be able to see everyone, but to be brought together for that reason is so sad. I am glad your dad got there, and was able to pay his respects knowing your mum was safe with you.

Cakes I am glad your arm is redressed, hope the twitching has stopped, bruised nerves perhaps?

Hope you are all surviving the snow, after driving and hour today the screen wash had still not defrosted in the car.......arghh, going to have to go out and out a hair drier on it I think!

SparkleRainbow · 17/12/2010 12:44

Never read the Lady....is it like The People that my gran used to have? Feel like I might be missing out on something Xmas Grin

SparkleRainbow · 17/12/2010 12:46

Just caught the cat trying to walk off with half a block of cheddar cheese in her mouth, and the puppy following her in case she dropped it. I have scolded them both, and threatened them with being put outside in the snow! Xmas Wink

Cakesandale · 17/12/2010 12:58

Oh bless them, sounds so cute.

Your poor Mum sparkles, it must be hard for her, but she knows now and can offer support. BC nurses extend their care to your parents also, if necessary, so don't be afraid to ask.

The Lady is not like The People, it is a very ladylike magazine with lots of classified ads for nice property lets and jobs as nannies/au pairs. It used to have articles about flower arranging and stuff but it had a new editor a year or two ago and she was trying to bring it into the 21st century. I am not really genteel enough to read it so i don't know if she succeeded or not. I imagine there is no swearing or celebrity gossip, and only jokes of the most tasteful sort.

If I am not about over the weekend, I will still be thinking of you and sending lots of positive thoughts for Monday. I am glad dh is going with you, and that your lovely friend is still lending a shoulder, it really will help. Frankly I am just glad on your behalf that the medics have got their backsides into gear. Whatever you need, it sounds like they are going to start providing it, and that's good.

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/12/2010 14:14

it's not a bad read,The Lady, worth a gander Cakes.
Your poor mum Sparkle- it is hard for parents too, they obviously want their children spared from things like this-plus it's a shock,I think.
I love the image of the cat and puppy making off with the cheese. Mum's cat is completely under mum's duvet as the builder is making a lot of noise. Dad has arranged for carpet fitter to recarpet the top stair on Tuesday too- result ! Really hope the lift man isn't prevented from coming by snow. Dh coming home now as it's snowing heavilywhere he works. Oh and ds forgot to bring PE kit home, but I was kind and drove him back to school to get it.

ItsKurriiiistmas · 17/12/2010 14:28

Hello all. Xmas Grin at your cat and puppy Sparkle. My dog is a cheese fiend too - which is handy when I have to get a tablet into her I can hide it in cheese.

Its good your DH is able to go with you on Monday, we'll all be thinking of you and doing lots of virtual hand holding Smile Its good that your mum knows now it's always hard to tell family what's going on, but Cakes is right, breast care nurses will happily chat to family members - mine was very good with my DH in terms of explaining things.

Whatever the news, and whatever the problem is, it is good they are not keeping you waiting, and will soon get you on the road to being well again.

I'm glad your dad managed to get to the funeral MAS, and lighting a candle is a lovely peaceful way for you to say your farewell.

Good the arm is not infected Cakes, it is bound to be sore for a bit. I think driving would put a lot of strain on the elbow, - have they said when you can start using your arm again?

Smee - well done for coping with feisty girl. I remember an incredibly bossy little girl called Frances in DS's reception class - she used to elbow other children away from the tables and shout things like 'that's not how you do puzzles, you do them this way! - DS was terrified of her Xmas Grin

DS is coming over tonight to give me my b'day present. And DD is coming home tomorrow (weather permitting).

Cakesandale · 17/12/2010 15:09

I hope the kids manage to get to you, KK - flipping snow! And also that the stairlift man gets to your Mum, MAS. On a much more frivolous note, I am worried in case we can't get to Jools Holland tomorrow Shock I can't have a Christmas without seeing Jools Hmm

I may well take a look at The Lady, I have heard it is quite good: I am a bit of a magazine fiend (I read them in the bath) though I tend to buy History Today and stuff like that Blush - I am a bit of a swot.

I can use the arm as much as the bulk of the dressing, and the soreness, allow. That's not a lot, really, the dressing is huge, just to protect the stitches i think - it's amazing how much I lean on my elbows, never thought about it before.

Cakesandale · 17/12/2010 15:11

We used to put tablets in cheese for our dog, too when I was a kid. And Mars Bar. Worked every time.

With the lovely old rescue lurcher DH and I had, you could just toss them on top of his dinner, and he'd bolt the lot.

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/12/2010 18:02

Celeste seems to love her antibiotics (I drop them into her mouth with a dropper) and the probiotics are sprinkled on some moist food or cat milk and she laps it up.
Hope ds and dd can get home safely KK and that Cakes gets to Jools.
Have bought cheese footballs, polish plums in chocolate and mini rum truffle cakes today- not all for me,mind.

OP posts:
sandripples · 17/12/2010 18:46

Due to work-related exhaustion I can only make tiny contributions now - so here is my input for today

I've heard The Ladt is quite racy these days Xmas Grin - perhaps we'd all better get a copy?

Have a good w/e.
Thinking of you Sparkles.

sandripples · 17/12/2010 18:46

Sorry - Ladt =Lady - obviously...

smee · 17/12/2010 20:17

Ooh yes Cakes, you must get to Jools. But will Jools get to the venue, now that might be the real question? He is a wussy southerner after all. Glad there's no infection. Keep an eye on it though. Wouldn't be very festive to have an oozing arm now would it.

The Lady - isn't that the one Boris's sister edits (Rachel?)? If so I'm not at all surprised it's racy. I heard her interviewed once and she was poshly gung-ho about all sorts of un-'Lady'like things...

MAS, I like the idea of you saying 'bugger' outside a locked church, but it's good you found a way in eventually. Sounds like a lovely personal way to say farewell.

And you've probably already explained this somewhere, but why do you ask for Wockhardt? My first 30 were that make, but the latest are something else. I haven't noticed any difference in how I feel, but am I missing something?

Sparkle's cheese thief made me smile. Xmas Grin Glad the beasts in your house are adding to the distractions. Are you snowed in yet? I know that's always a danger for you. Would it stop you getting to your appointment on Monday? Hope not.

SR make sure the weekend's restorative. You've done brilliantly to slot back into work, but not good to wear yourself out. Wine + sofa + DH cooking = a possible solution?

Hope everyone's DC had a fun end of term. DS said they played games all day; sounded great fun. Kurri, hope your DC arrive safely. If do they get to you, sounds like they might be with you for some time, according to the forecast..

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/12/2010 20:38

yes,Rachel Johnson is the editor- there wasn't anything rude in it (a thing about Sister Wendy; Upstairs Downstairs and lino cuts -sounds dull, but they are lovely)
Wockhardt is the brand I've always managed to get and because I feel I have relatively few SEs I am anxious to keep taking that brand..it's probably purely psychological of course !

I don't ever buy or watch celeb gossipy things, so maybe Lady is for me....I like looking at the holiday lets in the back of Garden Organic.....living vicariously through printed media Xmas Grin

Snow on the ground here, but not too bad yet. I am confident that dh will get me there on Monday.

Cakes I love Jools am so Xmas Envy With our labs you can just tell them to sit and give them their tablets, they think it is a treat! Nothing like a soppy, greedy lab Xmas Grin

Kurri hope you have a good family weekend.

Rest well SR, lots of time putting your feet up.

My dh has taken ds and other Beaver Scouts, plus ds's best friend (and future wife) out to the panto. So sweet, ds and freind have been going to get married for nearly 3 years now, they are 7 and 8!

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/12/2010 21:00

aww,bless them Sparkle Xmas Smile

OP posts:
SparkleRainbow · 17/12/2010 21:06

I know! They have chosen where they are going to University, when they will get married, names of their children, where they will build their house......Think my ds might be slightly over thinking it! Xmas Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/12/2010 21:08

Xmas Grin !
