here we go !

Good luck! Glad to hear secret santa has been. I never did manage to find the threads about it, so much as i would have liked to nominate everyone here, it wasn't me.

I am beginning to wish I'd never got involved with our school PTA. They aren't a very warm bunch and it is such a slog....

SparkleRainbow · 29/11/2010 13:31

I am just going to take the chickens some crusts of bread and listen to their pitiful clucking...they are DEFINITELY not coming in the house! They have got extra straw and feathers for weather such as this Grin

No weight targets before xmas here.....just can't open my mouth in order to eat....will drink more hot chocolate instead.

I have to get my swab to the gp's somehow today, and did I say I have got a date for the biopsy.....can't remember, well it is 7th Dec, week tomorrow, so that at least gives me a target for that!

I have a friend who wraps bubble wrap around three sides of her rabbit house to insulate them from the cold.........she is a bit mad though! Grin

Cakesandale · 29/11/2010 14:03

Well the 7th is not too far away so that is good, and it bodes well for some answers before Christmas, so that's even better.

You've shamed me into it, I'll go and make sure the rabbits are OK

KurriKurri · 29/11/2010 14:08

Of course you deserve a treat MAS, enjoy your voucher Smile

Chickens sound fun Sparkles - my sister used to keep chickens and geese. I loved the chickens, but the geese were a bit scary - you had to put their food down and run for it if you didn't want to be pecked!

I'm glad you've got a date, - and it's not too long to wait now. Smile

I'm having quite a nice day, DH and I are sorting out the spare room, and have been browsing through some old photo albums. There's loads of birds in the garden - we've filled all the feeders, and it lovely watching them, and the fields behind the house look very pretty all covered in snow.

And I am knitting myself this to keep out the cold. I've nearly finished the back, I'm doing it in a kind of multi coloured wool in shades of black, grey and white - gives a kind of tweedy effect.

Cakesandale · 29/11/2010 14:21

That's nice! I've got one a bit like it but it was from M&S, I couldn't hope to make one myself.

I like going through old pictures. As long as I am not in them, of course Wink

Just been out to check the rabbits. They seem Ok apart from frozen up water bottles, which I am thawing out now. They now have so much hay they might have trouble getting into bed!

Pennies · 29/11/2010 15:35

Boris is making something of a comeback! Still not the world's biggest eater but he's put on weight over the weekend and is definitely more perky today!

Glad the ice party went well SR!

SparkleRainbow · 29/11/2010 17:38

KK that cardi is lovely, I wish I could do thinks like that, my mum is really good at crotchet, but I don't think I got that gene.

Glad the rabbits are ok cakes, I have had to thaw out the chickens water for that last few days too! We have six chickens, three boys, one called Rocky, and the other two are called Saturday dinner and Sunday lunch, due to be dispatched shortly Grin. Then we have three hens too, Tallulah, and two immature layers, yet to be named but the dc probably want to call one Henrietta, the other name is up for grabs.

Pennies, I am so glad the Boris is doing better, he is playing and generally feeling more lively?

SparkleRainbow · 29/11/2010 17:47

things instead of thinks obviously Blush

sandripples · 29/11/2010 21:13

KK - yes I like that cardi too- very nice and you're clever to knit it. Istarted making a beautiful rainbow coloured waistcoat about 3 years ago. I have finished it apart from the collar but that bit defeats me! Perhaps DD will help me at Christmas.

Pennies, hooray for Boris!

Cakes - your DH is doing you a favour really with that singing Grin

All - hope no-one's getting chilblains. All that hopping round the garden (that's you hopping, not the animals/fowl) can't be good for you in these temperatures but if you insist on having all that wildlife that's what happens Grin Actually we really need to replenish our bird feeders - but its too dark now. I just dread the pipes freezing again like last January when I was waiting for my op. It seems no time since the last lot of arctic weather!

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/11/2010 22:56

hooray for Boris Smile
Sparkle- that's good-not too long to wait now.
KK's cardi looks lovely- how clever - I am totally hopeless at knitting - I have never been able to grasp it.
Ds is very excited that it might snow overnight (heavy snowfall forecast)
Dh working from home tomorrow in case of bad weather and is also feeling a bit coldy.
A friend has just found out that she's expecting triplets after IVF !!!!!! blimey- -that is quite a handful.
Keep warm and sleep tight x

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 29/11/2010 22:57

oh- chilblains- horrid -had them for the first time ever last winter and they were dreadful Sad

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 30/11/2010 09:40

Glad Boris is on the up!

My dd wants chickens, but I can't imagine that, if we had them, any of them would be destined for the pot. She is such a softy. Although, in fairness to her, I couldn't dispatch anything myself -who does is sparkles? Do I want to know how?

Right, I went to Pilates last night, and now i am going to take the diet by the throat as well. I have been totally inefficient in all areas for the last 2 weeks, but no longer. I have decided it's time to start kicking ass this morning, and the diet is next on my list. So I have started on a kick start programme that has always worked in the past. I will report back (and feel free to start taking bets on when I shall start to crumble) Grin

DD has gone off to school a bit reluctantly today - she has a few boys who have taken a shine to her and, while she liked the attention at first, they are getting a bit competitive and fighting over her, and scaring all her girly friends off so they don't play with her so much. The teacher has had several words, telling them to give over a bit, but so far it is not bearing fruit. I don't know where she gets her appeal from, I can't remember ever having that much male attention Grin I must say, they are all all very nice boys, so that's a blessing, at least.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/11/2010 12:35

well done Cakes -sounds a good plan to me !
Bless dd- can see why boys are squabbling over her- she is v pretty (I know as I've drawn her !)
My mum wanted chickens but I think her 3 cats might rule it out- someone up the road has them -you can hear the cockerel. When I was a baby I was given some chickens as a present (we were in Tehran) but they ended up in the pot.

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 30/11/2010 12:50

Thank you! I shall pass on the compliment!

I do think chickens would be nice. A few people around here have them and they do sound lovely. I'd like ducks myself, but the mess would be a bit unbearable and, as i keep telling dd, you can't have lots of animals and then keep going away/out all day and expect other people to take them on for you. Our neighbour is great over the rabbits, but you can't take the mickey, can you?

What on earth were you doing in Tehran? What an interesting life you must have had!

I'd also like donkeys, and I NEVER thought I'd be without a dog but, alas, no time. Sad

SR - hope the pipes are lagged and you stay warm and cosy!

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/11/2010 12:52

oh donkeys are so sweet ! I was born in Tehran and brought back when I was about 18 months- my dad was working there. Can't remember anything about it of course !

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 30/11/2010 13:02

Shame! i bet it would have been a fab experience. Perhaps not quite so appealing now.

Right, off to brave the swimming pool

KurriKurri · 30/11/2010 13:25

Well done for braving the pool Cakes (fingers crossed for heating). I am really trying hard with the dieting too, - managed to avoid rubbish yesterday and kept a close eye on how much I was eating. Today is going OK so far too. Although the cold weather is making me crave a hot chocolate (fortunately I don't have any - so it's fruit tea for meGrin).

I've had several pheasants stomping round the garden today pinching all the bird food. -I know it's wrong to not want them all to have a fair share, but somehow I feel the little birds need it more.

TMI coming up - the wound in my belly button is looking a bit yukky and is sore. I don't think its a doctor/nurse job yet. I've just plastered it in savlon and covered it with a dressing they gave me at the hospital. Annoying because it was healing up well I thought.

Had a very odd dream last night - dreamt that DH swallowed lots of coins and I had to take him to hospital in Glasgow. - What was that all about? Confused.

Hope everyone is having a good day, watch out for chilblains (I think tiger balm is supposed to be good for them). Glad Boris is on the mend Pennies Smile And I hope the sinuses are a bit better Sparkles.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/11/2010 13:48

ow about wound KK - hope the savlon works.
You are v brave to go swimming Cakes - hope it was nice and warm.

OP posts:
smee · 30/11/2010 13:56

Snow here too - DH and the cat ridiculously excited this morning, though I think the novelty's already worn off for the cat; he's curled up on the chair next to me. Smile

Sparkle, chicken names made me laugh. How very practical! Really hope the sinuses are better today; that pain sounds grim. Pleased you've got a date for the biopsy though - still a bit Hmm for you that you've had to wait this long. What are your Labradors called then??

Pennies, hurrah for Boris!! Brilliant he's on the mend.

Kurri, get that wound checked woma. Last thing you want is an infection - I know you know that! Your dream's intriguingly strange. Smile

Still racing about a bit, so can't post more now. A wintery wave from me to everyone though. Am trying to keep busy to distract myself from my horribly itchy Radiated breast. It's puce purple now and rather scary looking, though is at least keeping me warm. Grin

SparkleRainbow · 30/11/2010 14:00

KK how is the wound doing, sounds very uncomfortable/painful, are you ok?

Cakes - that is dedication going out in this to go swimming, I hope you are poishing your sparkly halo!

We are snowed in, ds is reading over my shoulder, and very happy to be at home. He has spent much of the morning making a hat, with attachments to deliver food directly to his mouth, and pipes to blow bubbles though! He is a future FBS delivery designer, and a ninja super hero! The world is safe, and so are the FBS! Grin

SparkleRainbow · 30/11/2010 14:08

Smee - is itchy normal after radiation then? It doesn't sound good at all! I hope you are ok, well done on keeping yourself busy. Lol at snowcited dh and cat, and fact only worn off the cat so far! I have a great mental image of your dh now Grin

Sinus pain much reduced today thank you, still on painkillers and decongestants, but at least feeling that I can tolerate a little dc noise!

We have Nikki the chocolate lab now 8, blind as a bat, but will still manage to steal your sandwich if you look the other way for a millisecond, very gentle and very sweet. We also have Heidi, who is five months, black lab, bright as a button, very needy would like to sent her day curled upon my lap, constant tripping me up as she lies down beside me. She also spends much of her time picking to the dc toys and bringing them to me, sometimes she even managed it without chewing them, other times toys are not so lucky.Grin She rounds up the chickens for me when requested to! She thinks snow is great and keeps trying to catch the snow flakes as they fall.

Cakesandale · 30/11/2010 14:14

DS sounds a character, sparkles Grin

We only have a dusting here, and it's much better than yesterday, wetter and not so slippy, so easier to get about.

KK - I think I'd keep a close eye on that wound. Dream possibly related to the way dh has been coining it in on the competitions recently? Just a thought.

Swimming was warm - hooray!

I have eaten a lot of fruit, and some dry toast. We have got lots of chocolate, and it is calling to me. I hope I can hold out.

KurriKurri · 30/11/2010 14:14

The itchiness is horrid isn't it Smee?, I have to say mine still itches now on occasion (but much better than it was - don't want to alarm you) I was given the tip of wearing T shirts inside out so that the seams don't rub on the area.

I will go to the walk in centre tomorrow if wound isn't improving (easier to get to than our surgery atm) - I don't think it's infected at the moment - not hot or swollen, I'll have a salt bath tonight and keep an eye on it.

My dog is bored of the snow now too Grin she is very reluctant to go out - I've just forced through the door because I know she needed a wee, and she is giving me dreadful looks Grin

Sparkles - your little boy should go on Dragons Den with his hat - I would buy one of thoseGrin

Anyone else's schools closed today? - I am thinking RWU might be having a lot of snow.

KurriKurri · 30/11/2010 14:15

forced her through the door

SparkleRainbow · 30/11/2010 14:38

Ds is such fun, he designed and built a trebuchet out of k'nex the other week.....to take over the world! Obviously to run a fair and democratic government - this is the child who whilst learning about the Tudors and priest holes said to me....."I think everyone should be free to practice whatever religion they want."....he is 7.
