I am starting to get paranoid.

Last week DS bought home a reading book featuring 3 charming adventures of 'Fat Pig' Hmm

The stories were amusing little pieces, eg all the other animals telling fat pig he should run or jump because he is fat.

Or Fat pig going to the supermarket and buying buns but trying them first before he gives them to his fiends.

DS has just bought home his second book to read. It's title?

'Am I fat?' Shock

BrianAndHisBalls · 24/09/2010 15:36

bitter Grin I told you dd actually told me i was fat last week Shock

mouse - why do you think im divorced??! Grin

Mouseface · 24/09/2010 15:39

FFS Bitter. How old is he??

OP posts:
BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 24/09/2010 15:44

He turned 5 in June Mouse.

It's not a very appropriate reading subject is it? Especially as around 50 - 60% of his class mates are overweight.

Mouseface · 24/09/2010 15:56

D'ya know, I understand why they are trying to teach children about obese/overweight kids/adults and eating better etc but 'Am I Fat?' is a really nasty tittle.

And they are 5 FFS. Bit young to understand and to implement any changes in their life.

Anyone who gets called fat is seen as being bullied, understanabley so.

What next? 'Am I Ginger/White/Blind/Thin'?

Hmm

Bitter - will you do the next thread? Or someone other than me?

OP posts:
BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 24/09/2010 16:02

OK, have flicked through it. The weird thing is the two books are totally contradicting each other.

In 'Fat Pig' all the animals are mocking fat pig for being fat, and telling him he should exercise more.

The last page shows a picture of the pig eating a donut in bed, with a tear in his eye, with the text 'I am fat, said fat pig'.

'Am I fat?' is about a cat asking all the animals if he is fat, and they all say 'yes'. The cat gets increasingly upset until it talks to a pig who says it likes the cat being fat, and the other animals concur.

I can't believe how dodgy that is. Shall I say something to the school?

Mouseface · 24/09/2010 16:06

I would. Contradicting or what!!

And they are saying that mocking someone because of their size is ok too are they not?

Again, contradicting what a bullying policy should be.

If they were 12+ and reading books called 'Am I Fat' and at the age where the children reading the book could do somehting about it IYSWIM, (eating disorders) I'm sure the parents would have something to say.....

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 24/09/2010 16:11

It was awful Mouse, the whole book left a bitter taste in my mouth but I thought I would hold my tongue as a one off, iyswim.

And to add insult to injury it's not even a challenging text for DS to read! He reads Roald Dahl at home, then brings home reading books from school that are strictly 3 letter words.

I am bitter, said bitter Bitter. Wink

Mouseface · 24/09/2010 16:18

Bitter - when DD started reading books and bringing them home, it was the same yet she'd been reading at home with me for years.

So I went in and asked if she could read her own books as her home reader instead.

They agreed. She now reads Twilight books in school and all we do is monitor her reading, making sure she is ok, not struggling etc.

She always asks if she's not sure of a word or phrase too.

I'd ask if DS can do that. Explain he reads the books he does and can you do that with him instead. Smile

Mouseface · 24/09/2010 16:50

DD has had another piece of her writing published. This is the third one now that will be in a book. Smile

And someone has just offered Nemo a Thomas the Tank train set Smile

We never get things like that as he is the eldest and a boy!! It's all Bratz normally.

would he like thomas the tank engine books mouse?

bitter - sorry was only thinking of the humourous side of the books, actually engaging my brain, no that's horrible, both of them, definitely talk to the school, totally inappropriate. x

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 24/09/2010 17:07

No don't apologise Brian, I can see the funny side. But then I'm not 5.

Congrats to DD mouse. Smile

BrianAndHisBalls · 24/09/2010 17:19

am about to upload the bitter brooches :D try not to combust with excitement.

Mouse - that sounds fantastic, get her to write some wizard boy schtick and live off her millions Grin

Mouseface · 24/09/2010 17:24

Brian - yes, any books really. Once he has his own room I want lots of books for him on shelves.

I can't wait for him to have a bed so we can snuggle and read before bed. In fact, just to have any kind of normal routine would be lush.

Hi all,

Not forgotten about you all, still here, but been so busy not been able to get on, and the chance I had on Wednesday night MN was down.

Haven't been entirely angelic with food, been quite hungry last few days, but it's that time again and I think that's what's the problem, not eaten a lot of stuff I shouldn't have, just bigger portions of good food. But I have been running, biking and swimming, so the exercise is good, and have a 10K race on Sunday.

How is everyone. Hope you are all OK. Will check in a bit later if I get chance. Feel like life is going 100 mph last few days. May fall asleep in my tea!!!

mouse - has he got any of them at all? the ttte ones i mean?

100years · 24/09/2010 18:11

Hey Brian. :) and Double :)

News on the TTC front, we may be trying earlier than I had thought. And I also managed to fit into a skirt in a smaller size today, didn't buy it as I wasn't sure about it, but it looked good. I'm all about the size not the weight now. :o Did buy a couple of new tops though :)

TotalChaos · 24/09/2010 18:15

bitter - think there is an unfortunate breed of simple phonics books that just can't resist the easily blendable "is cat fat?" doggerel. very odd though that your DS is being given this shoite given how well he reads.

hello 100 hundred. well done on smaller skirt size, but if you are soon to be up the duff, then that won't be lasting long, will it Wink

I have sinnnnnnnnnnnnned - succumbed to 2 pieces of KFC Blush. any idea how many calories that is? on the bright side I am not wanting anything for dinner!
