my doctors notes say i have ....

(please excuse the spelling on this) askondilating spondulitus. if you can deciper that can u tell me what it means? i have had problems with my neck for years, where at times in goes in spasm causing me pain for weeks on end, last lot was about 2months ago.

ankylosing spondylitis - it means bones and vertebrate that are fusing together.

Sympathy misdee, it can be a very painful condition. I hope the site cn give you a few answers.

cheers, explains a fait bit. a few years ago i was checked for arthritis as my hands were very stiff and painful, but nothigne ver came of it. it all started when i was about 19, left me wiped out for months.

so do i go back to my GP, and ask them to look into it further. its on my notes from 99, yet i was never told!

I would misdee. AS is a progressive disease and has a lot of linked conditions. It really needs to be taken into consideration whenever you have any sort of checkup.

Some GPs seem to consider that AS is just normal wear-and-tear on the joints, but it's not. I think I would go back to the GP and ask whether you definitely have a diagnosis of AS first, and then ask to be referred further if you do.

anarok, i have moved about amlot since 99, but i only found out today as i had an assessment for a claim for a RTA last year. the assessment doc picked it up as its a neck injury (i suffered whip lash in the accident). i have aching joints (hands, knees, back,) neck spasm several times a year wetc etc. my dad has AS as well.

MY BIL has this and at the moment is absoluty fine, with minimal symptoms. He swims a lot and swears that thie has helped him no end.

Misdee I have this condition in part of my back at the top where a few discs have fused together. My dad has it too and can hardly walk at times, his botom discs of his back are fused on to his pelvis and he has to have his back stretched, I just hope I don't get as bad as him. Hope your are doing well too! P.s my back problems started when I was 17

Yes go back and ask for advice on how best to manage the condition. I worked in a rheumatology dept and they held clinics for people with AK - from memory, exercise is important.I do think that is very bad that they didn't say anything to you.

at the docs. basically had very little treatment for it, except painkillers and a few anti inflamortries when neck flares up.

maybe ask for areferral to a specialist ? Even if it takes a few months to come through ?

No point Peter fattening up and coming home to nursey misdee who's stiff and very sore...

Go on, take a GP appointment and kick up a fuss, and with a bit of luck you can get a referral and then, say, in a couple of months see someone with specialist knowledge who can maybe sort you out a bit ???

will try and go in a fiortnigth when my parents are back from hols so i dont have to take all 3 girls with me to the docs, as they run riot there, depsite things i do to try and control them.

my fingers are playing up lately, so this will be a good time to try and get some answers.
