I might have fibromyalgia. Dh thinks it is coincidence. Knowing me as I do I think this is an emotional and physical reaction to it.

I don't know. I have felt like this for such a long time and I think I am upset as it feels real now and not something I can do anything about. I haven't got a diagnosis yet as I am still waiting to hear back from the hospital. I just want to feel like me again.Sad

My sympathy too, I have Fibromyalgia and got diagnosed aobut 5years ago

sorrento56 · 01/09/2010 11:22

Do you give in to the tiredness or do you work/exercise through it? Next week I am starting proper exercising and swimming as I need to lose weight but am also hoping that it will help.

Exercise (not too strenuous) is considered a good idea in Fibromyalgia (indeed, in life in general).

See here for example.

I need to get a new swimming costume so any recommendations would be good. I have been busy today. I had to take dd to the hospital, then we did a bit of shopping and I have spent the last couple of hours putting up pictures and tidying ds2's bedroom. I am going to have lunch now and then see how I feel about doing more housework. Kids are back to school tomorrow so I get my days free again.

I have been feeling exhausted all the time, headachey, hot and cold for about a year now. Have finally gone to GP and had blood test, results next week. I am wondering if fibromyalgia is a possibility. Would it show up in a blood test?

sorrento56 · 02/09/2010 12:41

I don't know, all my tests have come back fine.

Excellent news then sorrento.

sorrento - i dont know if it is a problem for you but i find if i am tired and struggling to cope i drink more caffine. ironically enough apart from the caffine actually making it harder to sleep later on in the day, it can cause headches and joint pain. I find that if i cut out the caffine and dairy (shouldnt be having as intollerant) then my joints are less painful, i am less achy and generally feel much better. I have been living off caffine to function for the last yaeer and know that it is going to be hell to cut it out.

I am going to try as of monday next week as ds is back in school and i would really like to feel human again. Dont know if that is something that could be contributory or not. I caught a previous thread (i think with a different username) and remember thinking you sounded shattered. Hope you feel better soon.

sorrento56 · 02/09/2010 12:54

I have pretty much given up drinking coke and never drink tea or coffee but I do seem to have a problem with bread and also thinking dairy too. I had a piece of home made bread this morning and had an immediate reaction.

didididi - the tests were done months ago so I am going to see what the hospital doctor says as I am not sure what other blood tests could be done.

Dairy is something that is garanteed to make my joint swell. problem is that i am not good at remembering to take tablets so have to balance craving for dairy due to calcium depletion or joint pain. Its been bad atm cos i have been living off cheese. if i quit it will be a week before i am virtually pain free. might be worth a go with exclusion diet to see what helps.

sorrento56 · 02/09/2010 13:08

I love cheese and would miss it. I miss peanut butter on toast and still trying to find either something else to put it on or a type of bread I can tolerate.

It's fab you worked out what makes you ill sorrento. You can get good rye bread in Waitrose and ryvita whole rice etc are good substitutes. DH suffers from wheat as well.

sorrento56 · 02/09/2010 20:38

I haven't yet for sure but thanks for the idea of the rye bread.

I have M.E. The symptoms are very similar to fibro. Although with M.E. exercise makes it worse, a lot worse.

sorrento56 · 02/09/2010 20:49

I do feel tired after exercise but it felt an okay tiredness. A bit like when you have had a really busy day but it has been good. I have started a new thread as I have a new pain today and it is freaking me out a bit.

OP posts:
DetectivePotato · 02/09/2010 20:50

I am just in agony after exercise. Its on my medical notes to avoid it. Probably not M.E. if you feel 'good tired' after.

sorrento56 · 02/09/2010 21:08

TBH it has been a while since I exercised properly as it was impossible to do it while the kids were off. I plan to start again on Monday.

I have had times where I have felt like crying and have new pain today which nearly set me off. I would try and sleep in the day but I wake up feeling awful so don't want to do it.

How do you manage your illness, herbietea?

It is on the inside of my right knee and once in my thigh at the same time. I have tablets to take at night for the pain but confused as to why I should take them then as I am asleep so not aware of any pain.
