Which idiot came up with the six week summer holiday? It would help if it was fecking summer but it's been crap weather so the kids are stuck in the house doing my head in

KurriKurri · 29/07/2010 19:28

Nice to see you Smee - glad you are feeling a little bit better, the nausea sounds horrible, - it is so debilitating.
Love the idea of DS with his party hooter

Fingers crossed for good weather RWU, so the kids can get outside . How's things going on the house moving front?

I got my shoes this afternoon, had to go for nude in the end, but they aren't too bad. Also got myself a spiky hairdo

If I feel brave will put up a picture at some point - the dress is completely different colours from the KM one, but similar style, - am worried now you'll all be disappointed when you see it
Fifties dress and DM's sounds pretty good to me Smee

sandripples · 29/07/2010 19:50

Yes 50s dress and DMs sound ultra cool!

Hey KK getting hair spiked up. I am lookingi forward so much to doing that. Maybe in a couple of months I might have enough fuzz to spike up?!

RWU Yes weather round you was fairly hopeless. However my DS had a whale of a time camping with friends at Abersoch, and DH and I managed a few walks round Borth in between the showers. DS and I and niece finally went to the animalarium - I had always imagined this woul be just a collection of mangy donkeys (esp after its mention on Mock the Week last year) but we really enjoyed it! I'm sure you've been but the fact that you can get so close to the animals to feed them by hand was great fun. DS (age 16) thoroughly enjoyed it and declared that you're never too old for zoos and animalariams (animalaria ?!) The various monkeys and pygmy goats were v. sweet.

Well as my dear boys left all my luggage behind I have been to Boots and bought very nice new eyebrow pencils and eye liner. Without them I look very odd so its a relief to paint my features back on ...

Will be spending next couple of days getting DS ready for his Big Trip to South Africa - so exciting. DH and I might feel a bit empty nestish tho.

Hope those with young school age DCs can manage to entertain them. This weather is just awful for a 'summer'. I hope friends can help you out.

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/07/2010 21:07

our weather here has been fine, bit of rain, but really quite ok - ds has been rushing about in the garden anyway.
Smee - fifties dress sounds fab - I used to wear lots of vintage stuff as a student - lost my nerve a bit as I've got older.
How exciting for your ds SR, but quite see how empty nestish it might feel.
Have cleaned today, fed my boy at intervals and started making 65 place cards for my niece's wedding next month.
RWU - hope the weather improves for your dcs - love to all x

Am loving the 'cool' comments. Sat here follicly challenged with lopsided breasts and feeling mighty 'icky, you've cheered me up no end.

SR, wow to your son; how exciting. 'Big Trip' with caps sounds about right to me.

Went a bit mad last night on a bottle of wine - DH's prescription and he was right as it was good to feel a bit normal - but in the midst of it, I somehow agreed we should camp for 3 nights as part of our holiday next week. Am now a bit morning after the night before about it all.

Hope all are well today. MAS, that's a lot of place cards!

KurriKurri · 30/07/2010 12:07

Big trip does sound exciting SR - he will have a whale of a time, even though you will miss him.

Camping will be fun Smee - really it will

Good luck with the Place Cards MAS, you will be busy!

I am buffing up my nails ready for tonight I also realised last night I will have to wear a low back bra. I have one, but am trying to put a pocket in it, as its not a mastectomy bra. Not sure its going very successfully - I have visions of my fake boob falling out, am also anxious my scar is visible, although DH says - 'so what if it is?, it doesn't matter' [slightly panicking emoticon]

smee · 30/07/2010 12:14

On a flippant note KK, drink enough wine and you won't care. Am sure it'll be okay. Wear the dress round the house for a bit first to reassure yourself maybe?

KurriKurri · 30/07/2010 12:17

Ooh - good plan - wine it is But actually that is a good idea for the bra, I will wear it around and jig about in it so I know its limitations!

Bollywood DVD time methinks.

KurriKurri · 30/07/2010 13:00

am off to strut my stuff. I could let them use it as a recommendation for the DVD - 'I danced like a Bollywood star and my boob stayed firmly in place'

smee · 30/07/2010 13:49

They'd want a picture.

KurriKurri · 30/07/2010 13:56

No Smee - they really really won't

smee · 30/07/2010 14:08

Ah go on - the first ever Glamour Model for Breast Cancer.

sandripples · 30/07/2010 19:23

Hope KK is having a ball!

Cakesandale · 31/07/2010 11:02

Haven't been around much the last few days and not caught up with all these great posts - but hello all, glad there is some partying going on, and that smee's ds is doing better.

I'm with RWU - only one week into the summer hols and I am beyond stressed. no time for work, no time to clean up ruinous house: I don't think I can take five more weeks of this....

Love to all. I'll catch up properly later.

KurriKurri · 31/07/2010 16:09

Hi all - had a lovely time last night, - here are a few photos as promised.

The venue

Me and DH

Me

Me again

As you can see I wore a shawl in the end - it was a very warm evening. Buffet and dancing were excellent, I'm now a bit tired, but we're going out tonight to see DS's play - its all one big social whirl

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

sandripples · 01/08/2010 11:28

WOW KK - you look absoultely fabulous and so glamorous!! I love those colours - just fantastic. And your hair looks great too. I hope I can look as good as you in a year's time - really.

We saw DS off at the airport yesterday - lots of mums a bit teary but I held it together. He's with very good mates and its such a wonderful opportunity for them all. Skip this if TMI but in brief they stay with a host family for a couple of days, visist one of the affluent schools in Pretoria, then its 4 days at a ghame reserve, then 4/5 days working in a township school near E. London and getting to know the sturdents in our twinned scool - they even have to do a couple of lessons each, then to Cape Town, doing some tourist visits, inc a Winery at Stellenbosch, then finally a couple of days at a resoprt on the Indiam Ocean. I am extremely envious!! They've psent a lot of time over all the past year preparing for this and fund-raising and learning about SA so this is really exciting to think they're about to land there later this afternoon!

I'm also v. pleased he has this trip this year as its been great focus quite separate from BC, and also the project is a long stanbiding one - its been going 7 years so the 3 schools have a real commitment to each other, its not just a touristy quick thing, IYSWIM. WE did a sponsored walk 7 years ago at the launch. My DD didn't get involved as she didn't want to commit herself to it for 2 years, but I think she regretted this. Moind you she had so mnay other interests going on I don't think she could have done Afritwin as well.

We invited 2 parents back for several galsses of wine after the airport tipr. which was nice.

Hope everyone is Ok and the mums with summer holiday challenges are managing to find projects! I do recall having to plan for summer hols a bit like a military operation and sharing the DCs out with other mums! Doing this if you're not 100% must be ghastly.

I am finding CMF does knock my energy at unpredictable times, or perhaps I've been pushing myslef this last weekm with going away etc. Eyes a bit runny too which is new.

Cakesandale · 01/08/2010 15:11

KK you look absolutely beautiful. Glad you had a good time.

SR - SAfrica sounds like a fab opportunity, and the excuse for wine was an added bonus!

DD totally doing my head in - needing constant one-to-one input and she has developed a load of weird tics which, it transpires after much argy bargy, are to do partly with worries over her grandad, but mostly with serious anxiety about going into year 3. I won't bore you with those here, but it is absolute torture, especially as it is likely to put the kibosh on a trip out for dinner to celebrate my birthday (if celebrate is the right word for turning 48)

Doctor's visit looming. {grim emoticon]

Hoping you can all continue in a cheerier vein than me for the rest of the weekend. xx

KurriKurri · 01/08/2010 16:03

Thank you ladies - you are very kind.

SR - how exciting for your DS, it will be a wonderful experience for him - but will feel a bit strange for you while he is away. Hope he has a fabulous time (and sends you lots of postcards!) It's nice you are in touch with the other parents as well.

I got very fatigued on CMF as well, I think you have to try and pace yourself a bit. I also remember runny eyes - I think lack of eyelashes adds to that, - your eyes are that bit more vulnerable to irritations.

Cakes - sorry to hear DD is worried, does she have any particular worries about school, or is it general anxiety? I have an old copy of 'Helping Your anxious Child' by David Lewis, - haven't used it for years, if you would like it I will happily send it to you - I would have handed it on to a charity shop or something on my next sort out - so you are very welcome if you think it might be of use., Just let me know and I'll briefly stick up my e-mail and you can send me your address. (or cat me if you have that)

I went to the last night of DS's play last night - and we got invited to the backstage party afterwards, - champagne and nibbles - very nice.
And - I'm very excited because DS has a new girlfriend, - I know her, they've been friends for a while and now they are going out. -She is a really lovely girl, we get on very well, and she's just the kind of grounded down to earth person DS needs in his life. I just kept squeaking 'oh how lovely, I'm so pleased' like a loon when they told me

Hope everyone else has had a good w/e.

Cakesandale · 01/08/2010 16:59

Thanks ever so much KK!

Ah, well, she is close enough to have felt the glow! I am so pleased for him (and you, girlfriends can be a nightmare)

Thanks again

sandripples · 01/08/2010 17:51

Cakes - sorry about your DD. My DD went through an odd phase but came through fine, so I'm sure your's will too. But its a worry isn't it. They do get strange ideas into their heads.

KK - about DS's new girlfriend - she sounds great!

Have been out for a walk with DH - it felt more like a trudge at times due to low energy but am pleased we managed it!

Have I told you we had our first crop of French beans yesterday - really delicious. And today I picked our first courgette! Very exciting!! Hope the tomatoes ripen up and turn red now, as all totally greem still. Haven't had much sun for a couple of weeks here. Its just strugglled out now thank goodness.

haggisdoodle · 02/08/2010 07:25
