in case we forget and find ourselves at 1000 - here's a fresh new thread !

OP posts:
smee · 21/09/2010 10:38

Capes makes me think of Superheroes! Is that how it is Cupcaked? Somehow I doubt it.

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/09/2010 10:47

Grin!

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 21/09/2010 10:53

Capes sound terrific and also rather jaunty, which would get my vote. especially if you can flourish it a bit - we didn't even get blue paper.

I used to count as well. Like the idea of a special song though Grin. Something by Frank Zappa maybe?

KurriKurri · 21/09/2010 11:00

Moving is exciting RWU! - I echo MAS, make sure you have a box with essentials like kettle, tea, coffee, a couple of pans, wash stuff, any thing vital for the children etc. that you can access easily, other wise you end up spending hours searching when you are desperate for a cuppa. Also IME the 'we've just moved' excuse for muddle can be used for a fair amount of time, so don't knock yourself out trying to get organisedGrin

I had 'chillax' music when I had rads, and ceiling murals to look at.One of my radiographers was the son of someone at DH's work, so I sort of knew him by proxy which felt a bit weird at first but he was very nice, and we chatted about his upcoming wedding as I lay topless, displaying my unibreast.

IME radiographers are really nice people, they were all so friendly and kind to me.

I like the idea of special songs - I shall be trying to think of some all day nowGrin How about 'Don't stand so close to me' for when they turn the machine on.

I ache like a demon today, the new yoga classes I've started going to are harder work, but I think its doing me good - I haven't lost weight but I look a bit less wobbly!

I have also managed to wean myself off sleeping tablets, so feeling quite good about that. They were making me so tired the next day and giving me weird dreams so I wasn't sleeping well on them. Medical solution to the poor sleep seemed to be to increase the dose, which made things worse. So I came off them, had a few horrendous nights but now feel I am sleeping much better, and able to get up in the morning.

Cakesandale · 21/09/2010 13:03

Well done for getting off the sleeping tablets, KK, they can make you feel horrid, I know. have never had them, but Ibuprofen can make me feel very odd, as though something is going wrong in my mind.

And yay for the firmer bits!

I am off to swim now, to see if i can get a bit firmer as well. As I have just eaten chocolate, it may well be a losing battle.

Still no feedback on the report. Will it be a housepoint for hard work, or detention for laziness, I wonder?

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/09/2010 13:12

am sure you'll get housepoints Cakes !
My work is due in on friday so will be fretting ...
I have just finished the After Eights in the fridge btw

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 21/09/2010 14:07

Chocolate is a must when a deadline looms.

That puppy book is a definite on my Christmas present list for dd. Remind me of title and publisher at some point, will you?

How many puppies are left to do?

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/09/2010 17:35

It's called Puppy Poems and is compiled by Gaby Morgan and published by Macmillan children's Books- will see if i can find any info... think all the dogs are done-as usual I have done more than neccessary-can't help it !
Have just tramped around the 4 charity shops in town with the 7 year old I mind -she saw a huge grey bear which she wanted badly, but I thought we should see if her mum objects and go back for it on thursday (I would be mightily displeased to have a huge soft toy !) Was fun to potter Grin

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 21/09/2010 17:38

oh,no out until January Sad
here As usual they haven't put my name on it on Amazon

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 21/09/2010 18:12

Looking forward to the book MASSmile Well done about the stuffed toy, - my DD went to stay with a friend for the weekend when she was young, they went to a car boot sale and she came home with two carrier bags full of stuffed toys in various states of disrepair Shock I was not happy.

DS did his first broadcast for a local community radio station today, he has a 2 hour show from 4-6 p.m., comedy chat, sketches and music. It was really good, in my (rather biasedGrin) opinion.

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/09/2010 22:34

oh well done to ds ! I'd be glowingly proud Grin
Her mum has said she can buy the bear -one of those Me To You things as sold in the Clinton cards shops-it's huge..we'll go again on Thursday. It's in the Cancer relief shop -we were looking at the bags and pink ribbon stuff and she asked what they were for,so I said breast cancer which was a very nasty disease-she asked if you get better from it,so i said yes, mostly. When I had my surgery I think she thought it was for a sore arm as she knew I wasn't to lift anything heavy (carry her school bag !) or take the dog;''s lead. I picked her up from school and looked after her 2 days after my surgery, which is a bit mad really. She is a sweetie and very easy to look after mind you.

Cakesandale · 22/09/2010 09:46

Those me to You Tatty Teddies are my dd's favourite, so well done you for resisting and checking first: I'd not be pleased. I have vetoed all new teddies coming in (she has 30 - honestly - on her bed). They still keep coming though we have a strict 'one in, one out' policy or we would have suffocated by now.

Why do people (not you MAS, obv) keep giving kids teddies in all sorts of states of decomposition even when they KNOW the parents are going to be miffed?

Well done to your ds, KK, can't be easy to keep up a flow of chat and stuff for two hours. And it must use up a lot of his material even just doing one show. I imagine you are still feeling the glow today.

Oh MAS - not out til January? What a shame. Still, she always has book token money so we'll save some. It looks right up her street. I have made a noted of the details.

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/09/2010 09:59

Ds still has piles of soft toys on and in his bed- lots of those RSPB birds, his bald eagle, sometimes his albatross and lots of little cats...

OP posts:
smee · 22/09/2010 11:10

Soft toys are not too plentiful here, though we do have a very loyal sheep though, who goes everywhere. He's currently sitting on the kitchen table reading the newspaper. DS insists he can read..

MAS how daft that the book's not out for Christmas, as it sounds like a perfect gift. Brilliant you've done all puppies, though am a mite worried by you keeping After Eights in the fridge. They have to be sticky and oozing in our house. Smile

Kurri, your DS sounds incredibly talented. Sounds like he has fun with life too. Now there's a combination to aspire to.

Nowt to tell here. Just went for a coffee after drop off with two other mums. Am giving myself a week off from work, so it's good to mooch. Not sure I'm very good at it, but am learning fast..

Any news on the report, Cakes?

Cakesandale · 22/09/2010 14:18

Learning to mooch is time v well spent.

No news at all on the report, I emailed last night for an update, but no reply. Maybe they are struck dumb by my genius Grin -but somehow I doubt it. More likely it'll be a typical public sector project: a tearing hurry to get it done so it can be copied in triplicate and left to sit in someone's intray for months. Still, as long as we get paid!

MAS - are those RSPB birds the ones that sing when you squeeze them? That must make for quite a noisy night!

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/09/2010 14:24

hope you do hear soon about the report Cakes - it's only good manners !
They are the RSPB noisy birds- some have worn out their voices !
Mooching is good I agree - I mooch but guiltily...
And After Eights are deliciously cool and crispy in the fridge !

I now own a house...... a whole house........ a whole big house in the country Grin

packing boxes arrived from the removal company this morning..... so guess what i'm doing from now on!

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/09/2010 15:42

hooray ! good luck with the packing RWU Grin

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 22/09/2010 17:06

Congratulations RWU - you old homeowner you Grin So glad it all came together quickly in the end.

Have a nice week off Smee - mooching sounds good, I may do some of that - it's a bit quiet here with DD gone back to uni.

Cuddly toys can easily get out of control if you are not firm I think DD must have inherited a stuffed animal gene from me, as a child I used to buy all the most delapidated creatures from jumble sales, - threadbare and manky - because I felt sorry for them and knew no one else would buy them - I am still teased about it to this day Grin

Thanks for the comments about DS - I'm very proud of him - he's very confident, always willing to give anything a go, I wish I was more like that!

I went to yoga today, and when we went for a cuppa in the cafe afterwards, the yoga teacher tripped and twisted her knee very badly - she was in a lot of pain. So I and another woman helped her out to where her DH was collecting her, and persuaded her to go to A&E. It's horrible seeing someone have an accident, she looked so pale and shocked with the pain Sad

Hope they get back to you about the report soon Cakes, at least it is done, and am sure they will be impressedSmile

love to all.

reallywoundup · 22/09/2010 17:27

I just went and bought a new digital camera to celebrate the house Grin therefore lots of pics will follow once we get there on Friday!

I have an army of relatives coming down on Sat/sun from liverpool to help with painting and laminating (flooring that is not random bits of paper being encased in plastic Wink) then me and sil (who is throwing a weeks sicky from work lol!) are going to ferry things back and forwards through the week. Removal men on thursday will take furniture, then friday i have to clean the carpets in the old house and give everything a wipe over and hand the keys in over the weekend

So far i've packed the bathrooms and nearly finished the front room- i'm doing well, but i have to tackle the shed (and therefore the spiders) soon!

sandripples · 22/09/2010 17:51

Wow - lots of activity on here. I've been busy entertaining our house-guest - daily walks + films/DVDs. As well as Tamara Drew we watched Brideshead Revisited and An Education - all three great films IMO. Then I also showed her the video of me getting an OBE as guests from overseas are always very interested in the Queen for some reasonGrin Hadn't watched it for 6 years so that was fun too. Am whacked now after a week of so much activity. Will slob out this evening and not speak to anyone. (Not out of bad humour but my guest talks quite a lotIYKWIM)

Anyway - huge congratulations to RWU on the new house (opps sorry - should be whispering), and also to MAS for the puppy pics and also to KK's DS who does sound very enterprising and creative.

Also Grin at the various suggestions for songs to rads. Esp the Frank Zappa idea! NO capse here, just the blue paper and no murals either.

Has anyone else had an irregular, superficial, dark brown mark develop after rads? Not sure if I should be worried about this. I can scrape some of it off (sorry - TMI) but its just that I don't think it was there before. Any ideas/tips??

Better go and cook now.

KurriKurri · 22/09/2010 18:02

Quick answer SR - under my arm went dark brown/blackish about a week after rads, and then my skin broke down in that place, so keep an eye on it, just in case (hope this is not the case for you - skin does become darker like sunburn in the area).

An OBE????? how impressive Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/09/2010 18:34

yes, mine too -dark brown and peeled off (yuck)
OBE ??? tell us !

OP posts:
smee · 23/09/2010 10:20

Dofs cap to SR. Should we call you Sir or M'lady from now on? Grin

I obviously haven't a clue about Rads residue, but I did read the Dina Rabinovitch book recently and she had a recurrence of BC along the scar of her mastectomy, but it was red and quite livid. From that I'd assume brown/ blackish is dead skin and though yuk is probably as Kurri and MAS say not anything too sinister.

rwu, hooray for new house. Sounds like you're doing amazingly, but tell us you're not overdoing it too. Use relatives I say. Your SIL sounds fantastic.

Kurri, your poor Yoga teacher. Horrible to feel something go like that. Hope it's not too serious.

Here am getting better at mooching, though still need to work at it. Found myself cleaning out the bathroom cupboard this morning, which let's face it, isn't very moochy. Rwu, one of those large spiders crawled over my foot. Big eek from me, but the cat pounced and crunched it up. mmm...

smee · 23/09/2010 10:32

Meant to ask Cupcaked, but how's it going?
