in case we forget and find ourselves at 1000 - here's a fresh new thread !

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 19/09/2010 22:49

I think we prefer proper names (all my other critters have had real names, except for a guinea pig inexplicably called Fountain Pen) Was toying with Celeste...
hope everyone has a good week - I can't remember if anyone is having treatment this week, if so lots of love - well, lots of love anyway to everyone ! x

sandripples · 20/09/2010 10:04

OK, remembering pets' names is a good game for my very flagging memory - so

WE have had hamsters called; Peanut (escaped), Sugar, and several Hammys.

A guinea pig called Heidi because she ran away as well as hid all the time.

A rabbit called Sarah.

Goldfish called Toby and others long forgotten.

Cats in my childhood called Minty and George.

WE haven't had many pets really; DS dear;ly wants one.

Feel a bit grotty again today - upset stomach and tired. Just hope the drugs get out of my system soon. Hope everyone is OK.

smee · 20/09/2010 10:13

Glad to hear John Simm wasn't whiffy, Kurri and that he was nice to boot. Sounds like an excellent night, so you've inspired me to try and get out more, so am going on Friday to see a show from Edinburgh called 'Beautiful Burnout'. I shall obviously blame you, if I hate it. Grin

Cakes we went for Keralan. mmmm.... Was most delicious. I had a bit of an Aubergine moment, so Aubergine starter, then Aubergine curry with Tamarind Rice. At the risk of repeating myself; mmmmm..

SR, might try and see Tamara Drewe then as I do love a bit of Posy Simmons. It's on at our local all week so a five minute walk for me. Not sure if I can get there though, as DH is away again.

MAS, a kitten, how exciting. I'm useless at name choosing, but you still have some time. How old will she be when you have her then?

RWU, thinking of you amidst the chaos. Not sure how helpful that is, but still.

Cakesandale · 20/09/2010 11:02

Keralan food. Aubergines. Nice all round.

Celeste is a nice name for a cat. My db has just got a black kitten (and I thought he didn't like cats) who is named Azzie. It is short for Asbo, as she is a bit of a hooligan. I think I prefer Celeste. For some reason i also like Marjorie. It is a solid, sensible cat sort of name. (I won't be offended if you reject that out of hand, though Grin )

We had a dog called Mojo once. She was totally untrainable - good name though (we didn't choose it).

Guess what???? I finished the first draft of my report - on time!!!! I had to work all weekend, mind you, but it is over there with the client now, while they see if they like it. I feel like the years have rolled back and here I am, seven years old, standing at the teacher's desk, having my story marked Hmm

cupcaked · 20/09/2010 11:41

We named our gold puppy Stella, daughter of black Pepsi, and I thought it was v clever but no one seems to geddit.. (Artois??) Shoulda stuck to Honey. She is the exact colour of Honey and as soft as a teddy bear. But loves mud and hates baths and I -have- had kitchen floor

Heading off to first radio in an hour. Any advice other than bring lots of reading material? My wounds have continued to give trouble all this time and onc radio thinks might possibly help so fingers crossed, I am fed up with the permanent nagging doubt that there is still disease going on in there despite scans and biopsies. Why is nothin ever straightforward?

Guess we can expect silence from RWU until after The Move. Thoughts with u tho, rwu, hope not too stressful, and let us know about the prawns or whatever, can't wait to hear :)

Cakesandale · 20/09/2010 11:51

great name, cupcaked! Lots of reading matter is the biggest tip for rads - that and going with the flow, delays are very, very common, so no point sweating it.

Good luck!

smee · 20/09/2010 12:21

Good luck, Cupcaked. I have no advice as haven't got there yet, but will be thinking of you. Hope they whizz you in and out, so you've not time to anxt.

Our cat's black too, named Ninja, though I call him Nin. He's so not a Ninja; most he's caught so far is a moth. Grin

smee · 20/09/2010 12:24

Cakes, congrats on report. Whatever they say, it's a result to have finished a draft. That bit's always the hardest. Celebratory biscuits at the very least. Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/09/2010 12:40

excellent news about report Cakes - well done !

Marjorie is nice but maybe a bit 'solid' for my girl-she'll probably be quite dainty as her mum is tiny.
We had cats called Suzie,Fanny,Belle,Dickens & Jones,Smog,Tigger,Lionel,Muddle face, Little Puss and Wilfrid- dogs called Biddy,Bonzo,Trixie & Pip and I remember a pair of singing finches called Tatty & Clanger.
My guinea pig was called Daisy and tortoises were Harriet & Georgina. Phew !
Hope rads goes well cupcaked - drink lots of water too, slap on the aqueous and it'll soon whizz by.

OP posts:
cupcaked · 20/09/2010 13:26

Shoulda read white kitchen floor!

Celeste fittingly sophisticated for her breeding, MAS, she doesn't sound like a Tiger :o

Cakesandale · 20/09/2010 13:37

Not surprised you aren't going for marjorie - it just strikes me as entertaining for a cat, not sure why. A bit like the penguin called Dave at Birdland in Bourton on the Water. Cracks me up every time, not sure why.

I dread to think why Muddle face was so named...

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/09/2010 14:01

poor Muddle Face - she was multi coloured -and Lionel turned out to be a girl...
I am wasting time when i should be working looking at cute kitten collars online....

Hi all, just back from yoga and having a bit of a hot and sweaty moment (am sure you wanted to know thatGrin)

Hope the move is going well RWU, with no dramas or hitches.

Hope you enjoy your show Smee - I shall of course take full responsibility if it's no goodGrin. I think getting out more is a good plan, I might take DH to see the film you are all recommending if it's on here.
I read an article the other day about life after treatment, and it said it is a good time to take stock, start doing the things you want to do, and stop doing the things you don't want to do. Reasonable advice I think!

Well done on the report Cakes, you must have had a hard working weekend to have made all that progress!

CC - hope the rads go well and help the healing. I second(or is it third?) the reading matter - I had a few long waits - once I read over half a book! - I was always the last patient of the afternoon because I had shingles when I had mine, and they had to disinfect everything after me Blush

MAS - kitten sounds lovely, - Celeste is a very pretty name for a cat. My niece (the one who had the op. recently) has a cat called Marjorie (a very bossy cat) and a dog named Elsie. I quite like old lady names for pets Smile
Sister's cat is Freya, and ours when was a child was Bambi.
The Maine Coon cats are beautiful, as are burmese - so I'm sure your kitten will be a stunner.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/09/2010 14:34

it is quite warm today KK Smile
It just occurred to me that friends of my parents had 2 cats called Flora and Pom which might be why Celeste (from Babar) was in my mind. Pom had no tail...think she had an accident.

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 20/09/2010 14:47

Flora is nice for a cat. But really, when you get the name that suits her you will just know. She does sound beautiful.

I have just heard that someone I know has punched their ex-DP in the gob. Obviously it's not something that I'd normally recommend, but I have a sneaking admiration for her spirit Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/09/2010 15:16

ds was possibly going to be Flora (if he was a girl, obv) or Daisy - both names of pets I know Grin

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 20/09/2010 16:51

DD was almost a Daisy, too - but DH felt it wasn't serious enough for the future Governor of the Bank of England Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/09/2010 17:33

Cupcaked - For some reason I liked to count during the actual radio treatment - it was 7-9 seconds! Another friend used to sing in her head as she knew how many lines would take her to the end. But otherwise, drink water, do the exercises, and yes, reading material is very useful. Our hospital has a volunteer servcie and offers foot massages while you wait or after. Its a bit tricky if you're covered in cream and then get called though Grin

Lots of friends gave me lifts - I didn't actually feel I needed them but it was 45 mins each way and the company was nice.

I really like the name Celeste, although if she's tough bruiser it might not suit....

Have just made more chutney as decided in the current weather the remaining tomatoes would never ripen.

Cakes - yes well done on the report!

Kk -you always have a fount of good ideas - I think its right to take stock as you suggest - just hope that when I'm working I have the energy to do keep doing so.

reallywoundup · 20/09/2010 20:29

gah! posting and running i'm afraid- but i like celeste! i'm not expert on cat names ours are 'this' and 'that'!!!

Right, so on the whole two weeks til we complete thing...... we are completing on Wednesday and collecting keys on Friday, moving in next week Shock because the builder can't be with us until November now so we can't wait that long- we've decided to just live with it until it gets done, it is almost habitable!

so any tips for packing and moving? in a hurry lol!

We signed over our house back to the housing trust today (shared ownership scheme), before i'd driven the hour home from their office someone had knocked on the door, dh answered and was told "We've just been told we can move into this house soon" talk about jumping in my grave lol! but he thinks they seem nice, so i'm glad it will benefit them too!

right i'm off to order boxes/ tea chest type things!

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/09/2010 21:08

don't forget to have things separate (ie. not packed away) for immediate use when you move- essentials etc otherwise you'll never find anything you need...oh it is exciting but very hard work - I would be completely frantic as any change from my routine really throws me.
I had hospital transport for rads as I went to Southampton, about 50 mins or so away - was nice to be dropped off and picked up, but sometimes lots of waiting for others to be finished and then dropping people off along the way.
I used to stare at the ceiling (pretty pictures on there) and listen for the clunk before the buzzing, then the thing moving round to do the other side.
I tried to keep myself covered by the scrap of blue paper for as long as possible.

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 21/09/2010 09:30

Good luck RWU - it'll be knackering, but positive, which should help a bit. No practical tips here though - I always just muddle through and then try to forget all about it after.

Glad the old house is getting nice inhabitants - just a shame they are going to get the neighbours from hell! But that's NOT your problem.

I like the names 'this' and 'that' for two cats Grin

I can remember going for rads one time and there were about eight people in the room Shock. No-one introduced themselves, and i wasn't sure if they were all radiographers, in which case fair enough (though surely overkill), or some of them were there fixing the machine, in which case, wouldn't really just want to flop the chest out. (For their peace of mind or mine!) No-one offered any information, I didn't like to ask, so eventually I just wapped everything out and strode defiantly to the table. it was an uncomfortable occasion, though - and not really what i had come to expect of them, they were usually very much more sympathetic than that. Hmm

cupcaked · 21/09/2010 09:54

Ooh that wasn't nice 4 u Cakes. I get a cape thing like in the breast screening place so they aren't too apparent until lying down. It's not clear to me exactly when the rads start so not sure when to start counting, but like the idea of a special rads song. Hmm....Dont Go Breaking My Heart?...Simply the Breast??... You Rays Me Up???...this will keep me occupied today :)

smee · 21/09/2010 09:59

Arf Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/09/2010 10:27

cape thing sounds miles better than scrap of blue paper !!
There is usually a big clunk noise then the buzzing-I guess the clunk is the machine being switched on.
Do they play any music to you cupcaked ? they did occassionally at mine.
