Brill analogy Cakes, know exactly what u mean. And just as annoying as a wet newspaper would be but u have to bottle it as it is all SO important to them.

Thinkin of u MAS, must be v tough in the short term, so v brave of u to dig in there. Rewards down the line for u I hope.

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/08/2010 15:37

aww,thanks cupcaked - I appreciate your thoughts...
good luck with new project sans dd Cakes !
Have a jolly bank holiday weekend everyone.
oh,almost forgot- my broken filling has been fixed again (using acid !!!! to make the surface grippier-eee,tasted horrid) i wasn't charged - hooray ! but if it goes again then think it'll be crown time (wonders- could i exist on soft foods ?) love to all Smile

Hi, yes well done MAS for pursuing the grief counselling. Its very brave I think. Good ;luck for the next steps.

My Brow Zings arrived and yes I do like them and will continue using them. Must say I do also like the special pencil I got from Boots though. It is called Collection 2000 Eye definer in case anyone is interested! I will play around with both of these and decide which I prefer. Its quite fun really Grin

I can't recall what the M is in CMF!

Had to wait till 3 today for the Distrcit Nurse. When I rang at 1230 asking where they were I got the distinct impression they'd forgotten! They are such lovely people but their communications in the team and organisation leave a lot to be desired. Good thing I wanted a quiet day! And good that friends came for coffee. I've sorted out lots of photos from the last 10 years and later I bought bought 4 albums to put them in. I've also made chutney with apples from the garden and some from a friend- its bubbling away now and making the whole house slightly vinegary/gingery which I like. My DS hates it but as he's away camping that's OK!

Sorry I can't offer any advice re price of kittens (except that it sounds a lot of money. Hey, boring old farts unite!) I have actually told DS that we can get a kitten but I'm thinking more of the variety from local rescue place.

Cakes - I hope your neighbours get the hang of parenthood before too long. It does take time doesn't it... well a lifetime in a way really Smile We were a bit mad and moved to the Yemen when DD was 3 months old - we clearly had no idea what we were doing....nice for you to have a baby next door though.

Have a lovely w/e everyone.

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/08/2010 23:14

methotrexate ! i know that because my mum takes it for arthritis...

haggisdoodle · 29/08/2010 09:05

Stll lurking (albeit with thick short hair with a Cruella streak!). Re kittens MAS, I think I would be more worried that the kittens aren't innoculated. Most reputable breeders always give at least the first innoculation. On plus side cross breeds are usually much healthier!
Phoned hospital and got mammo results on Friday - all clear!!! Grin.
No BH in Scotland so working tomorrow.
Howling gale and rain outside so going back to bed.
Hope you are all having a good weekend.

KurriKurri · 29/08/2010 11:43

Hooray for mammo result Haggis GrinGrin. So pleased all is well, it's such a relief when you get it out of the way.Smile

It is blowing hard here too, although we did manage a nice long walk yesterday and only got caught by the rain near the end.

I went to Toy Story on Friday with DD, good fun if anyone's DC's haven't seen it yet.

Last night DH and I went to see a play DS had directed (for another company rather than his own), and had a really enjoyable night.

love to all - hope everyone else is enjoying the bank holiday, and anyone on treatment is getting a good rest. Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/08/2010 12:38

fantastic news haggis - hooray !!

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 29/08/2010 13:39

marvellous news haggis - well done! And yay for the thick hair!

SR - why on earth did you move to Yemen with a 3 month old baby??!! I seem to remember regarding a trip to Mothercare as rather too far and risky, but then I was not a natural with a baby. Sigh.

smee · 29/08/2010 19:01

My, you're a busy lot. Been away in the wet wilds of Dorset, but lovely to escape, even if we did get mighty soggy.

Just skipped through to find many of you have genius level children (GCSE results - wow, am impressed!) and far, far greener fingers than I. We returned to 2 ripe tomatoes, does that count?!.

Big hoorays to Pranma and Haggis for test results. What a huge relief.

And cupcaked, a big YEAY for your last chemo. Hope you're not feeling too plagued by SE. You too RWU. Are you out from under that duvet yet?

And great to see Pennies back too. Was intrigued by your losing hair/ nails a while after Tax. I'm on that, so am hoping it's not common. Sounds like you had a v.tough time through chemo, so it's great to hear about the farm and enjoying holidays. Hope your daughter's not too nervous about starting school.

Cakes, sorry to hear about FIL, though in many ways it sounds like it's for the best. fwiw, I think it's good your DD goes to the funeral too. Hope your DH is alright. Good news on back / shoulder ops. Am sure it's daunting, but having had a back op I can honestly say it's life changing. Grab with both hands, I say.

Sorry I haven't caught up with all. Will post more once I've time. Just saying hello really. Smile

KurriKurri · 30/08/2010 14:19

Hi Smee, nice to see you back and glad you had a nice holiday. I grew up in Dorset - my parents still live there, it is beautiful (even when wet!) Some great wild and windy coastlineSmile

Hope everyone's been enjoying the BH, weather's improved slightly here, I might even be able to provoke DH into mowing the lawnGrin

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/08/2010 16:31

hey smee -lovely to see you !
Am baking cookies,instead of working....

OP posts:
smee · 30/08/2010 17:27

Work diversion eh, MAS. I'm very good at that too, though have had my head down today as have a 9am in the morning deadline. Congrats on the book though. How fantastic.

How's the throat now, Kurri? Hope it's nearly better.

smee · 30/08/2010 17:38

MAS, meant to say, but our kitten came from the RSPCA. He was 9 weeks old, fully vaccinated and chipped. They asked for a donation, so I asked and they suggested £50 would be a massive help. He's just a black moggy but is gorgeous and had a good start in life as was with his mother until we had him, so fully litter trained, etc.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/08/2010 19:21

my previous cat was an rspca rescue, totally wonderful black cat, chipped ,neutered, vaccinated etc and just had to pay a donation - he was the best cat ever and I do miss him...so yes, will certainly consider looking there.
Hope you got your work done - my deadline is end of Sept so not feeling the pressure yet, though I have to draw 35 or so illustrations and a selection of puppies to be scattered about.
Have a good week everyone, hope September is a kind month to all.

OP posts:
smee · 30/08/2010 20:30

35 sounds a lot to me. Deadline still looming here, but aforementioned cat is sitting on desk biffing my pens onto the floor. Maybe you should wait to get a kitten until after your deadline... Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/08/2010 21:13

think you're probably right there smee Grin

And forget about a pup too, our Ms Cuteness has just chewed through a second iPhone charging cable at £25 a pop. So I am bereft of phone now, and considered being also bereft of pup. But she is a living Teddy bear, all soft blond fur, so gave her benefit of doubt after a good stern telling off, after which she wee'd on kitchen floor in fright..

I also have taken several rescue kittens in past and all lovely, so lovely that we couldn't replace Spike our last one and moved to dogs instead, different culture completely of course!

KK, is throat/chest better? Smee, have you got chemo this Thursday? How are you feeling? Have to say I found my 6th and last chemo far far far harder than any preceding, physically and psychologically. Not sure why that should be, but that they would have to knock me out to do that to me again.

off to make the school lunches now, shin pads found (only a little chewed), dust blown off flute, blah blah...have rebelled and given up on name tags tho, initials with permanent marker will have to suffice from now on.

Happy back-to-school, all!

MaryAnnSingleton · 31/08/2010 07:42

oh cupcaked ! I did so want a puppy, but ds is really very keen on a cat - my bcn came over to collect a picture she'd commissioned on Sat. with her black lab who was so,so lovely (featured in the picture along with bcn's family and new grandchild) -velvet soft ears, amber eyes etc...ds a little wary but stroked her - made me really want a dog !
Have just got ds to try on trainers and football boots -both way too small - am hoping that my friend can pass on her older ds's to save my buying more. Ds not back until 9th !!
If it's chemo this week smee then lots of luck...

KurriKurri · 31/08/2010 12:38

Bother - I wrote a post about half an hour ago, and it's disappeared. - Goodness knows where it's ended up!

To re-cap Grin

Good luck with chemo Smee, hope it goes well. How many do you have to go now?

CC - I felt knocked out after last chemo, I think its the cumulative effect, its frustrating because you so badly want to feel 'normal' again, Hope you're feeling better soon.
When do you start rads? - I remember you saying you'd had the planning appointment.

Good luck with footie boots MAS, - my DS outgrew his at a rate of knots too. And also managed to lose his rather frequentlyHmm

My chest is better, thanks for asking everyone, but still have a sore throat. I think it might just be from all the coughing, so I'll give it a couple of days, then go back if it's still here. I'd like to avoid more AB's if I can, and I don't feel unwell, just croaky.

Cakesandale · 31/08/2010 12:50

Hi all - glad chest is getting better KK, keep an eye on the throat, though!

Hiya smee, good to see you back.

Hope everyone is doing OK, I am just kind of swinging briefly by as an excuse not to work, but am afraid it can't last....

cupcaked · 31/08/2010 17:13

KK, nail on head, I am so keen to be back in real life again, ie life not dictated by chemo dates, it's v annoying feeling so flat. Today was littlest ds last day of hols and I could not summon an oz of energy to go to park with him, felt v bad tho he was happy enough on his ds (nintendo ds!). Rads starting in 2 wks.

MAS, good job I don't know how to post photos, my pup is a living teddy bear. Kittens lovely too, but cats just don't do unconditional love! Less needy is the positive way of lookin at it I guess :)

Need to go to shop for milk- ashamed to admit am taking the car quarter of a mile Blush

sandripples · 31/08/2010 18:52

Hello everyone, I've been away in Both for a few days so have just read posts to catch up.

I was sitting on a bench in the sunm yesterday and a lady looked at my Lenny line (and I guess my hair too) and said 'You look as tho you're having a tough time'. So we then had quite a chat (she was with her DH) - htye had both had cancer and chemo etc about 20 years ago and looked very well so I thoguht I'd pass on their happy hiostory to you too, as they both seemed very fine in health.

Borth was a nice break thought weather was best yesterday after a couple of windy days. It didn't really matter. I wa;led every day and we also visited a NT place which was nice (truly enormous kitchen garden!)

My DS was meanwhile being cool with friends in Trendy Abersoch and DD is in Germany to collect DD. So we were all happy though separate.

Haggis - hooray for your all-clear.
KK - gald you're starting to feel better.
Smee - glad you had a nice time in Dorset.
Cakes - we wemnt to Yemen on a posting as we both worked for the British Council then. DH got a posting there - we would have stayed 3 yearts but due to a Gulf War we couldn't stay more than a year. It was tough at the time but I'm glad we did it.

I feel a bit sad that its the last day of summer.

Hope this post is OK as it got stuck at one point.

Best wishes to all. (I want a kitten)

MaryAnnSingleton · 31/08/2010 19:57

am sad too that summer is going...
that is a very nice story about the couple SR - cheering Smile
Am trying to draw puppies and feeling not very creative...am in a bit of an anxiety mode, wonder if it's the bereavement stuff ~? I'm going to see an old school friensd in London tomorrow- will take ds and drive there and for some reason this is churning me up,which is silly..just a general unsettled feeling - have had 2 massive anxiety dreams, last night and at the w/end -usual stuff, but last night's was about someone (my old primary school teacher) dying and a child being very ill and also having to swim naked in a pool with my best friend from primary school and having to show her my scar...weird..it links up with the stuff i'm doing in counselling,so it's probably good Hmm Enough of that...

OP posts:
smee · 31/08/2010 20:16

Thanks for all the chemo well wishes, but DS not back at school until next Monday, so have postponed, to enjoy the last few days with him. Met a friend in Kensington Gardens today with a ridiculously large picnic. Much grazing Blush, but was lovely.

Cupcaked, I've still got two chemo left. Got delayed somewhere down the line as was neutropenic, so you've sprinted a bit ahead. Am not surprised you found your last hardest; each one seems to get harder to me. Am holding onto fact that after next one, I'll only have one left. Am not surprised you're a bit flat now though. Seems to be a common trend at the end of chemo. Give yourself time I say. I'll be following you with Rads too, so you'll have to give me some tips.

SR, great story about couple 20 years on. Mighty cheering. Glad you had a good break. Days in Yemen make me feel incredibly boring. Think I was working in Chesterfield at a similar age. Hmm

Is it me or is it very cold...? Am tired admittedly, bu can't get warm. Too mean to put the heating on, but have found my hot water bottle. Feel a bit granny like with my head scarf and old cardie on. Keep telling DH to trade me in.. Grin

cupcaked · 01/09/2010 01:18

Me too Smee, cold cold cold.. And exhausted but can't sleep. Will have rads sorted for you by the time you get there, with much help from archives of this thread. (Is it the longest-running MN thread anyone know?)
