bleeding on cerazette?

dragonfly42 · 17/07/2010 09:26

Ive been taking cerazette for 2 and a half months and have been bleeding most days, probably only get 10 days a month where im not, also bleeding during sex. been to docs and she checked my cervix and said all is ok and couldn't explain it so she has referred me to a gynecologist. Has anyone else had this whilst taking cerazette? its driving me mad and since i cant take the combined pill im kinda stuck with it!

it affects different people in different ways - some bleed a lot and some dont bleed at all (I havent had a period for 2 years on it).

There are other mini-pills you can try as there are 4 different types with different active ingredients. I was on femulen and micronor before cerazette but they both gave me periods every 2 weeks. I would try a different one if the gynae finds nothing wrong either.

mini-pills

hmm, i was going to post today myself.

I have had a good experience on Cerazette in the past, minimal bleeding when my period was due on what would have been the first period. Then after that nothing, nada, no periods at all!!

I came off it, and went back on it recently, with 2 periods inbetween, and not having such a great tine now. I got a proper period and despite carrying on taking it, i am still bleeding, a bit of fresh blood each morning, a week after af should have stopped.

I think you can either go back like seona said, or give it a bit more time. Interesting, I am on this pill cos i am over 35 and a smoker, do you mean serona that there arenow others available for my circs?

Seona1973 · 17/07/2010 10:23

according to the web page given above there are 5 mini-pills in the UK and they are all suitable for older women who smoke and cant take the combined pill (I am 36 but dont smoke).

As I said I have tried micronor and femulen but they didnt suit. The others other than cerazette are noriday and norgeston.

piratecat · 17/07/2010 10:28

cheers! i should have clicked the link!

dragonfly42 · 17/07/2010 16:08

ok thanx for your posts, I dont smoke either and am 35 but i get migraines which is why i cant take combined pill. i have taken cerazette before, about 2 and a half years ago and my periods stopped completely, which is why i asked for this pill again. I think i will do like Seona says and try another pill if gynae gives the all clear.

according to my GP bleeding on cerazette is normal. I stopped taking it after bleeding every day for a few weeks......I'll just change pills once I stop breast feeding.

oh its just so annoying! It drives me nuts some days then other days it doesnt bother me, i think it must be something to do with my hormones! its the bleeding during sex that my GP referred me for but i see on some threads about cerazette that this has happened to others.
I think im gonna wait until the end of this pack and then see if the bleeding stops, its frustrating cos last time i took this pill i stopped bleeding altogether but its not been the same this time!
Thanks for all your replies!

I was same on this, all progesterone only contraception makes me spot! I was initially on depo no bleeding for 2-3 years, went to implanon started spotting after 2 years, had a break from contraception. went on cerazette, spotted, doubled pills up and stopped for a bit and came back. Went to depo and spotted for a year, they gave me microgynon for 6 months at same time which controlled it, sick of the hormones so I am now 3 weeks into my copper coil. Hopefully when all these hormones are out of my system I will get a normal body back!!

The docs will give you so long on it to give it a chance to settle down. Making sure I took it at exact same time seemed to help me a bit.

Like yourself sex made it worse too, I totally understand your frustrations after feeling like Ive been on a period all my life!! Hope you dont end up the same as me!!

dragonfly42 · 07/08/2010 20:43

Thanx VPN 81, it's good to hear I'm not the only one who can't find contraception that suits me!! I've comsidered being sterilized but i really don't like hospitals. Got an appointment for this month so hopefully I will get sorted out soon! How's things going with the coil? I've considered that if things dont settle on this pill

I feel like this is my last chance, combined pill they say Im too heavy for and I think Ive got ibs so they arent certain my body would absorb enough! Coil been in 3 weeks now I had a period which I was amazed stopped after 5 days- then I spoke to soon and the spotting has started!! I might be lucky to go a day without it but gym + sex soon sets it off again!! Ive been taking anti inflamitries for my back which Ive found helps. Ive read on here ibroprofen helps and its more or less the same thing. So at the minute Im not sure if its the pill and depo working its way out of my system still or my body is still getting used to having a lump of metal in me!! But at least I know theres no drugs building up and adding to it I feel like theres got to be light at the end of this tunnel!!

von81 · 09/08/2010 07:49

Ah and one thing I did miss out on, I had to have loop diathermy for cin2 which they said that could be the cause of the bleeding (but it stops with the combined pill so I dont beleive it)

lexie145 · 11/08/2010 21:54

Was prescribed Cerazette at the age of 41 as I had not been on the combined pill for at least 10 years. What good can I say about it, well the answer is nothing.

As if the mood swings weren't bad enough, when I started my second period since taking this minipill things have only got worse. Been bleeding for the past 19 days, starting to get irratated from wearing pads for such a prolonged time can't see an end to this and just when it looks like it's stopped you get what looks like fresh bleeding again. It mentally wears you down and as for your sex drive well that goes out the window (not surprising really). Really and truly fed up with it and tempted to chuck them in the bin.

marriednotdead · 11/08/2010 22:23

Sad to hear so many negative tales and rather worried now.
Have been taking it for last 5 weeks to help control my endometriosis as combined pill gives me unexpected boob job more problems than it solved.
Already sterilised so feel cheated, got it done to avoid taking hormones for ever.
Sex drive is low already as fear of pain is not exactly an aphrodisiac. Not felt or been told I'm particularly mood swingy and no bleeding so far.
Alternative is further and more invasive surgery so really need this to work for me.
Any positives anyone?

von81 · 12/08/2010 15:12

erm short answer is..... no!!

dragonfly42 · 13/08/2010 10:51

oh dear, sounds like not many people have a positive experience with cerazette, the ironic thing is i took it about 3 years ago and my periods stopped just like that, at the time i didnt like the idea of not having a period and was constantly worried i was pregnant!! now i would give anything for the bleeding to stop, however it has calmed down lately and ive only bled after sex which makes me think its not the pill causing the bleeding now and maybe something else going on!! grrrrr sometimes dont ya just hate being a woman!!

von81 · 13/08/2010 14:48

Dragonfly have u had all your smears? I had cin 2 which they say caused some of the bleeding I had. Mine was made worse by sex.

Good news tho.... Ive read that ppl have taken multi vitamins to stop irregular bleeding (not sure if it was a copper coil thread or pill thread) so I got myself down to tescos and bought some on Monday!! The best 80 odd pence Ive spent this year!! Had a teeny bit of spotting on Tues but as of Wednesday Im blood free!! woo hoo I feel normal again!!

dragonfly42 · 13/08/2010 22:00

my smears are up to date but due again in november, my GP assured me that this was nothing to do with anything like that and was concerned because i had a miscarraige about 5 months ago and bled after sex when this had passed, however between this happening and starting the cerazette i was fine. so it all seems a bit weird to me, i think im just gonna have to wait until my appoint with gynae to find out whats going on, just hope im still sane by then!!!oh i too have ibs and i used to take multi vitamins but ive had a few months break from doing that so maybe i should start them again!

i have been taking cerazette for nearly 4 weeks now and am really sick of the bleeding. i took it on the 1st day of my period and that was normal. now i have been bleeding for nearly 2 weeks and dont know whether i am coming or going. i am tempted to stop taking it as we are off on hol in a week so dont want it to sto me going swimming etc. what should i do?

von81 · 14/08/2010 13:18

Im just glad to be normal, lets hope it lasts!! I feel wierd not having to wear a pad!! My friend had bleeding with sex and found out she had an erosion on her womb, not sure what that is but I think they corterised it and she was sorted.

And to smiley try the vitamins!! If u stop taking it u will just be the same. If you go to your docs they can give you something to delay your period someone from work used to get them all the time when she went on hol. only otgher this is to get em to change your pill to a combined pill

gingerkirsty · 14/08/2010 13:35

Hello, no comment re bleeding but I was shocked to read this thread re Cerazette. I have now come off it due to low libido and am hoping to see some benefits soon!

Smiley77 · 14/08/2010 19:01

I know and men moan at us for having a bit of pmt!!

dragonfly42 · 25/08/2010 07:56

Well had my appointment with the gynae yesterday and he says there is nothing wrong with me and all my symptoms r due to the pill, the pill has made my cervix raw which is whi i bleed after sex but apparently that should sort itself out eventually. If not he recommends the mirena coil, anyone had any experiences with that? Not sure whether to stick it out with this pill or try the mirena!?
