If so, this is the election that just keeps on giving.

His refusal to stand down gave us Boris Johnson so it would be nothing less than he deserves.

I’m not a JC supporter but in our FPTP system we need the disrupters and the dissenters to voice the different opinions and views of significant numbers of voters and to hold the 2 major parties to account. The lack of effective opposition for the past 2 decades have had a major contribution to the decline in UK politics

I think Corbyn makes a lot of sense, the Antsemitsm thing and the IRA thing came from a place of wanting to stop the horror, and his constituents are clearly very fond of him.

I'm pleased with the Labour victory, but even in current conditions, it's only as big as it is because of Reform, which is terrifying, especially as whoever came in, the next few years are going to be really really tough.

By the next GE, Labour will only have been able to make a tiny start on what needs doing, with no money to spend and forced to put up taxes. I doubt they'll get a second term and Reform will be waiting....

You must be absolutely gutted Noblegiraffe, really feel for you today.

Of course Corbyn was going to get back in! I doubt anything could get him out. It’s all in the beard and the Lenin hat: very powerful symbols for the idiot Left. And there are plenty of those in Islington.

grumpypedestrian · 05/07/2024 08:25

Corbyn retaining his seat made me incredibly happy. He has principles and beliefs, unlike other politicians he still fights for his constituents even after losing an election.

It says a lot that people would still refuse to vote Labour if he were leader and how much they believed media lies. He actually calls for a Gaza ceasefire unlike Starmer.

His victory speech was spot on. Starmers manifesto was thin and he has a lot to prove.

You blame Jeremy Corbyn for Boris Johnson. Make it make sense. Corbyn has spent his life campaigning for social justice and being a good person. It says a lot about you that you hate him.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/07/2024 08:30

Being a good person? He lent legitimacy and support to terrorists! He is naive at best. I've always thought one of his problems is that he's not very bright.

Geri had 4 solo number one singles...

Wasn't her solo career more successful than any of the others'?

Sometimes we are the terrorists y'know. You can't just pick and choose which violence you consider terrorism and which violence you consider necessary.

"the anti sematism thing" where rabbi s up and down the UK wrote publicly begging us not to vote in Labour under corybn? And you find reform terryfying 🤔

Attictroll · 05/07/2024 08:44

Jeremy Corbyn was my MP for nearly two decades ( I moved away a few years ago) and he is a brilliant local MP loved for what he does for the community. Yes he sometimes backs issues that seem controversial when he sees horror and probably he should never have been leader of the party.
He was empathetic and sought action for issues raised locally in parliament. I am not surprised he has been re-elected and I am genuinely happy for the man I met over the years. Who was happy to debate issues with his constituents even if he didn't agree. He also once even held a dc for me when canvassing on the door step for 15 mins as I was struggling as a new mum to get something done when he knocked at a tricky moment.

Yes and the Rabis are famously unbiased on the Palestine question.

FundingitallHow · 05/07/2024 08:52

They were terrified of a corybn win. Attacks had massively increased and they and their communities felt terrified enough to write public pleas.

Because he was toxic to the Labour Party and unelectable, yet refused to stand down and make way for a more palatable candidate. With that and his fannying around refusing to take a position on Brexit (do you remember the video promising to deliver the ‘People’s Brexit for both Remainers and Leavers’ that appealed to neither?) people were so fed up of both Labour and the vacillating on Brexit that a large number lent their votes to Boris to just get Brexit done.

I, personally, however, couldn’t vote for Labour in 2019 despite them being 2nd against the Tories in my constituency because I had observed (not ‘heard’ or ‘read about in the mainstream media who hate Corbyn’ but personally seen) how disgusting antisemitism had been allowed to flourish in Labour on his watch. I could not put my cross in that box against Boris Johnson (I voted for a third party) for that reason and I will forever hold that against him.

No, Mogg lost, and he was higher up my wish list, so I’m pretty happy. And Gullis. And Liz Truss! She wasn’t even on it as it seemed so unlikely.

What on earth does that mean?

Hdkatznahtw125sgh · 05/07/2024 09:00

I am so happy and pleased Jeremy Corbyn retained his seat. A highlight of my night along with watching the tories lose their seats.

It is easy to forget that mumsnet is centre right. Jeremy Corbyn is an excellent backbench MP, this has been rewarded.

I had no doubts he would, didn’t realise how out of touch people are on this.

Excellent general election result overall.

I think we know what it means. As usual, a total inability to treat Israel as a sovereign nation without descending into antisemitism.

TryingToSeeTheFunnySide · 05/07/2024 09:03

The anti-Corbyn crowd never let up!
A fictitious version of him has lived in your heads rent-free for years.
He's the least racist person in the world, and just a genuinely good man, who's devoted his life to helping others and working for peace and justice.
Up to you of course, but I recommend you save your ire for the far-right 🤷‍♀️

Telling me to deny the evidence of my own eyes and experience isn’t going to work.

If someone tells you the lottery number for next week….ignore!

mybeesarealive · 05/07/2024 09:14

He won. Fair play. I had to laugh though when he gave his spiel about kinder, gentler, more inclusive politics. He still has his blind spot for Jews and antisemitism doesn't he? But of course, in his world they don't count and are just mean to him. Let's face it though, he's now a 75 year old independent backbencher agitating against a Labour government 🙄. This is probably his last parliament. And he can still serve a useful purpose for the Labour Party. They can point at him to remind the electorate how they've changed. Also, he'll give them a basis to get rid of troublesome members of the Socialist Champagne Group when they start appearing on platforms with him at problematic events. So it's all good 👍.
