Robert Jenrick painting out the Disney mural in asylum accommodation for unaccompanied children is mine.

It’s simply that they didn’t see the rules as applying to them. I don’t think Johnson has ever thought any rules apply to him. It’s a superiority complex and rank entitlement.

Dominic Cummings.

If you read about how he was raised, it gives a very clear insight into his behaviour and mentality as an adult (basically, no rules, was not disciplined or corrected for feral behaviour)

its no wonder he struggles to abide by rules when it isn't part of his lived experience, and he also struggled with creating rules and guidelines during COVID because he didn't want to impose them onto others. It didn't come easy to tell people what to do

I thought you were describing Jeremy Corbyn:

Now Jeremy Corbyn breaks rules at memorial: Former Labour leader was at 'anarchists' carnival' with 100 others a week after he apologised for dining with eight friends.

Now Jeremy Corbyn breaks rules at memorial

Jeremy Corbyn was embroiled in another Covid row last night after it emerged he was at a memorial service which exceeded the maximum 30 people allowed to attend.

I'm not "voting the Tories out", I'll be overjoyed to see the back of them though. There is no single image that comes into my head, because there have been so many moments that set my gas at a peep to single any specific one out. May's craven self-interest that led us up the path to the worst possible Brexit, simply because she was running scared of the ERG sticking the boot in. Johnson's utter lack of decency and integrity, completely debasing the office of PM and turning UK Politics into a chimp's tea party. The monumental idiocy of Liz Truss, and the senile delinquent Tory members who elected her. Sunak's total inadequacy, and the inhumanity of the likes of Patel and Braverman.

Unfortunately some of these scumbags will inevitably survive 04/07/24. The worrying thing is, the ones who do not immediately throw the towel in and run off to some lucrative job outside of politics, are the really dangerous fuckers who actually believe the problem with this Tory party is that they aren't Right-Wing enough, so their ambition means they'll hang around for the next leadership election once Sunak is inevitably booted. I'm less concerned by my belief that Starmer will be an utterly underwhelming PM than I am by fears of what the likes of Braverman will get up to as leader of the Opposition.

But Jeremy Corbyn 😂
I heard yesterday Labour might unseat him. That would be fun

I thought of so many of you and your stories when I cast my vote today, also of my dear friend and her siblings who could only nominate one of them to be with their elderly mother as she died of COVID, the rest of them sat in a car in the hospital car park (which was also against the rules) and had a video call to be with her as best they could.

I will never forgive them for what they did. If you are still unsure of your vote please think of them and all the others whose trust and selfless obedience to the rules was betrayed and those who have gone hungry and suffered under this cruel immoral government.

A quality needed to be in government surely; self discipline

Doesn't really work, because the most vulnerable person I know is Boris Johnson locked in a room with me, and I'm not voting in that fucker's best interest.

Were Covid visiting rules less strict in Labour controlled Wales?

GrantShappsOtherUserName · 04/07/2024 14:03

Did Welsh Labour vomit in gardens, break slides and party hard whilst imposing restrictions?

Evenstar · 04/07/2024 14:04

@Clavinova I am sure that the rules in Wales were the same or stricter, the difference is that the First Minister of Wales did not break the rules himself whilst expecting others to obey them.

People in all walks of life did their best to keep the rules to protect others and prevent the NHS collapsing, this was at an immense personal cost to them and for loved ones who died alone. Boris Johnson and his ministers told others to obey those rules, sanctioned punishments for those who broke them and stood in front of the country telling us we must obey them. That can never be forgiven.

GrantShappsOtherUserName · 04/07/2024 14:06

Simon Kuper's books Chums and Chaps both explain in different ways, but very well, why our elite political classes (especially in their current iteration) just don't ever abide by rules they set. I recommend them both.

To be fair, I had left the thread on Tuesday - it was Zonder who called me back this morning.

My blue British passport landed on the mat yesterday. My first one since becoming a citizen.

As I go to vote this afternoon it's an image that to me perfectly encapsulates the mendacious, self-serving, donors-before-party, party-before-country, contemptuous and disdainful ethos of the last fourteen years, that also caused so many of the utterly horrible experiences and effects people have posted here.

It's telling that I finally got my citizenship not out of excitement, or a sense of belonging, as it would have been in my early days in this country. Instead, after 20 years, it was out of a sense of distrust and fear.

Oh God @LittleBrownBaby, that’s desperate. I’m so very sorry. 💐

Thank you. I probably shouldn't have said all of that here. But I just hate the sense of entitlement that comes with one rule for the us and one rule for the Government.

Lavendersquare · 04/07/2024 15:16

For me it's the pictures of queues of ambulances waiting and waiting to offload their patients at A&E departments all over the UK. Similar stories most winters but now year round.

It has to be the lockdown parties. That photo of the 'gathering' in the garden at number 10, and the queen sat alone at the funeral. Shocking behaviour, whatever your politics.
