Unless absolutely SHEDLOADS of people who voted Conservative in 2019 vote Labour this time.

That's right, isn't it?

I am GC, but I find the blinkeredness of the GC single issue voters unbelievably frustrating.

If you want an excuse to vote Tory, go ahead, but don't use false feminist justifications when all the evidence tells us loud and clear that Conservative policies are not good for women.

No false feminism at all, it is true feminism.

The Nazis had other policies but I don’t think anyone would have been wrong to vote against them on their views on certain groups.

BIossomtoes · 01/07/2024 18:56

No such thing. There are many strands of feminism. None of them would claim to be definitive. Feminism always used to be a broad church.

And will only get worse. Much worse under labour.

I don't think it will.

HauntedPollingBooth · 01/07/2024 19:02

I find it incredibly concerning that GC single issue voters proclaim themselves 'the only true feminism'. That kind of thinking is going to have a massive negative impact on women's rights - 'knowing what a woman is' will distract from the huge stack of issues that still need so much work: equal pay, the effective legalisation of rape, insecure work and housing, pregnancy discrimination, everyday sexism, the glass ceiling - all of that will end up being sidelined. It's worrying.

I agree. But I think people are only worked up about this because there is an election coming, once Labour get in (fingers crossed), everyone can work together to get the best possible deal for women.
Knowing what a woman is, is not good enough for me.

The more the GC lot talk as if it's the only thing that matters the less GC I feel.

Child poverty, children's mental health, children not growing as tall they used to, the children stuck in asylum hotels, and the children in run for profit children's homes all take up more of my thoughts.

Does that matter? I don’t think women are raising the issue to convince you

I’m the same. I feel as if I’ve been harangued about it for ever and I’m more turned off every time it happens.

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 01/07/2024 19:30

I think there are elements within the GC crowd that are deeply conservative, not what you'd recognise or describe as feminism (radical or otherwise). I know people try to deny it, but when you look at who the GC crowd are aligned with in places like the US, the signs are there.

I am GC, but that isn't the only aspect of feminism I care about, and I refuse to align myself with those who obviously don't have women's interests at heart.

I never really understand when i hear stuff like this

randoms on mumsnet don’t affect my belief that sex matters in virtually all walks of life

its a bit like when people said they voted remain but would now vote leave cos randoms on the internet were annoying them by going on about it all the time

I was once told I couldn't possibly be a woman if I didn't agree with Julie Bindel and KJK.

And here we are - Julie Bindel’s voting Labour so your womanhood has been restored.

Idk I see the same posters on threads on the topic complaining that the topic is discussed

There are obviously very loyal Labour posters who will prioritise party politics over women

I’m happy if they avoid it. No one is posting to convince them.

Erm single issue GC voters are often not feminist. In fact there appears to be a remarkable number of (self disclosed) men on FWR, which is unusual. The only other place I've seen that is the sex board 😂

You know better than that. We prioritise all the other issues that affect women over the trans issue.

Me too. I have a suffragette necklace that the headbangers on twitter have ruined for me :(

What

Strange claim. Who are you talking about specifically?

Mostly women on FWR with a few male / trans aligned posters

A couple of pro women / single sex space men post which is fine. I assume they have thought about the impact on their daughters etc

There are a lot of male posters on there, who turned up after they decided to leave another forum and set up on MN because of their more flexible attitude to trans issues. Sounds like a bunfight. They aren't particularly ashamed of it, I've seen lots mention it.
I don't have a problem with men on FWR but I think the number of them and the fact they came as a group has affected the tone of the debate.
Also, very weird to decamp to a womens space, where its being talked about how men invade women's spaces......

Gosh, this is interesting.

Just as a by the by eastern, in fact I am not party political in the sense you describe and have been strongly considering moving my vote over to Green or Lib Dem because of a range of issues about which I am uneasy with Labour leadership's stance.

I think most 'trans allies' will pause before voting Labour, in fact.
