Just that really! There is so, so much saying it’s only between Tory and Labour that I fear it’s a self fulfilling prophecy.

There are some of us out there who think differently!

To be honest, I read an article which blind tested public opinion on party policies and the Lib-Dems' policies were by far and away the most popular so I also wish it wasn't constantly being portrayed as Tory vs Labour. I also hate the idea of tactical voting as it goes against my core principles.

PlantDoctor · 24/06/2024 19:50

I think they lost a LOT of support after the shambles in 2010.

PurBal · 24/06/2024 19:52

What @PlantDoctor said.

paasll · 24/06/2024 19:52

Lib Dem are centre. So they should be a good compromise. My DS voted LD by post today. My DH will also vote LD. I don't know if I will vote. I hate politics and each party has policies that make me rage.

mossylog · 24/06/2024 19:53

In most so-called Tory safe seats, the main competition is Lib Dem. Lots of places where they're not a wasted vote.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 24/06/2024 19:55

i used to vote lib dem and in my heart I’d love to vote for them again.
i can’t/won’t currently because of their policies on self ID and not protecting single sex spaces. I work in sexual violence support so it’s a very important issue for me.

YouMustBeHappyNow · 24/06/2024 19:55

I'm in a previously safe Tory shire seat. Labour have always come second.

Maelil01 · 24/06/2024 19:56

But…they’re very anti G-C.
Thats too hard to stomach.

I totally agree usually about tactical voting being bad but this time is weird and different and negative and as I can't vote positively I will vote for the candidate that has the best chance of keeping Labour from winning my constituency. Forlorn hope as the polls suggest Labour is a shoo-in.

porridgecake · 24/06/2024 19:56

I used to vote LD. Not any more. I won't support their stance on transitioning children or taking millions from Ferring Pharmaceuticals.

TizerorFizz · 24/06/2024 20:19

IFS has said their Manifesto lacks detail and is not clear about fiscal policy - in that can it actually be achieved? Therefore as a life long supporter, it’s a no. They will attract voters who don’t like the others. Reform is getting way too much coverage.

Shedbythebins · 24/06/2024 20:28

I would vote lib dem but for their mad policy's on gender

Ticktockk · 25/06/2024 05:53

I must have been living under a rock as I hadn’t actually seen their policies on gender until you said that. Ffs.

verdantverdure · 25/06/2024 06:07

It depends where you live doesn't it?

There are probably 50-100 or so constituencies where the Lib Dems have a chance.

I'm voting tactically in my constituency for the party most likely to win that isn't the Conservative Party

Which on my case is the Lib Dems.

AliMonkey · 25/06/2024 06:34

I’ve voted LD my whole life, partly because of their policies but also because I’ve only ever lived in constituencies with high Conservative or Labour majorities so they were the only ones with any vague chance of beating incumbents. But I really don’t think I can vote for them now given their gender etc policies. So struggling to know what to do, almost tempted to vote conservative, which I didn’t think I’d ever do.

I feel your pain. I'm a little bit GC myself, And nobody is offering the Rejoin the EU referendum I know we need.

I just keep telling myself it's not about me, it's about what's best for the country. The terrible decline of the last few years will need turning around.

Maybe do the Voting for Policies quiz? It helped me, especially on the policy areas aim not particularly interested in like housing and transport.

I’m voting lib dem
ACynicalDad · 25/06/2024 18:13

I don’t see them as a serious party, I did under Nick Clegg and would vote for him if he was leading them this time, but not this lot. Some of their policies are sound, but they say different things in different seats which is fine as they will never be in power, and too many of them are a sandwich short of a picnic.

ShrinkingEveryDay · 25/06/2024 18:16

So am I but I’m voting tactically. I would vote Labour but they’re the third party here.

I work with vulnerable families and the devastation I have witnessed after 14 years of austerity is heartbreaking. I hope the Tories never recover 🤬.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 25/06/2024 18:17

I totally get the bus analogy, and would normally agree, but unfortunately I'm being offered a choice between open top submarines on a route through the sewage works...

The manifesto is the same in all constituencies, isn't it?

Yes, but what they promise and campaign for locally has previously been highlighted as being diametrically opposed.

For most of us, there's a party that's going to win and one that's going to come second and one of them is going to be our MP.

In my constituency it's between the Tories and Lib Dems and I have chosen to help the Lib Dems rather than vote Green, Labour, Reform or Women's Equality Party.

Have you done the Vote For Policies quiz thing? I found it quite useful.

verdantverdure · 25/06/2024 18:28

Yes, but what they promise and campaign for locally has previously been highlighted as being diametrically opposed.

Then they're easily challenged using their own manifesto.

Yeah I would vote for whoever I needed to to hopefully lead to one less Tory MP in power.

It's the best any of us can do really.

The country can't continue this downward spiral.

Mine is also Tory or Lib Dem. As it stands, I can't bring myself to vote for either.

My other choices are Greens, Labour, Reform and Heritage Party.

I did do a policies quiz, although perhaps not that one, and it just told me I was most aligned with several parties that aren't standing here.
