Just that really! There is so, so much saying it’s only between Tory and Labour that I fear it’s a self fulfilling prophecy.

There are some of us out there who think differently!

I did the ‘vote for policies’ and got Lib Dem, green, labour, Tory, reform. Which I thought was about right for me.

I got almost exactly the same order from the vote for policies quiz as @Ticktockk (but with Labour before Greens). But still struggling to vote LD. I have always voted, even when I knew no hope of my vote making a difference, based on how hard-fought it was to get women the vote. So voting for a party whose manifesto says they will reform the gender recognition process to remove the requirement for medical reports, recognise non-binary identities in law, and remove the spousal veto goes against that hard-won vote, taking me to the point where I'm better off not voting. Or voting Labour, which has no hope of getting in here (would need nearly a 20% swing).

rockstarshoes · 25/06/2024 22:22

I too like some of their policies, I think they're being much braver than Labour, I also like the local MP!

He has done loads for my area, as a local Counsellor & as Mayor. And I said I would never vote for them again after the coalition debacle!

However for the very first time in the 30 years I've lived here Labour are predicted to win based on polling by some if the tactical voting sites so I think I'm going to vote Labour!

And I am gender critical but I feel that getting rid of the current bunch is higher up my list of priorities!

vacay · 25/06/2024 22:30

Is it Lib Dem's who want to open weed shops ? And get us back on track into rejoining the EU?

zaxxon · 25/06/2024 22:31

There's more to politics than just policies, though. You've got to wonder whether the Lib Dems would be able to implement theirs. Here's an illuminating graph from Sky News ....

We have a really good Lib Dem MP who does great work locally so will vote for her

Yes I saw that.

Reforn's planned spending is mad especially bearing in mind they plan to abolish the Universal Credit and the State Pension, and make it much harder to obtain disability benefits such as blue badges and disabled parking spaces.

garlictwist · 26/06/2024 01:43

I'm in a staunchly Labour seat so feel I can vote for whom I like without risking the Tories winning here. I'm also considering Lib Dem but wonder if they'd know what to do if they actually won (unlikely).

happinessischocolate · 26/06/2024 05:53

I'm down south in a safe con seat, although I'm surprised to see the next area look like it may lose its long term con MP 🤞

I'm voting Lib Dem's. If Labour are going to win then I just really want Lib Dem's to be the opposition party and the cons stuck in the back benches.

If people want change that'll be better than anything Farage could dream up

I must have been living under a rock as I hadn’t actually seen their policies on gender until you said that. Ffs.

This describes the majority of LibDem voters.

They tend to get voters they don’t deserve because people have a warm but unclear feeling toward them.

Is any party talking about Prop Rep?

So are you still voting Lib Dem?

TwigTheWonderKid · 26/06/2024 08:29

In terms of policies and manifesto promises, unlike the two other major parties, the Lib Dems can effectively offer the moon on a stick because they know there is absolutely no chance of them forming a government.

KnittedCardi · 26/06/2024 08:33

PlantDoctor · 24/06/2024 19:50

I think they lost a LOT of support after the shambles in 2010.

Such a long time ago, and if we can get our heads around PR, would be the norm. I wish we would move towards coalition governments. We're not quite as bad as the US, but I really wish we had even more choice.

Ticktockk · 26/06/2024 09:13

sashh · 26/06/2024 08:05

So are you still voting Lib Dem?

After some thought, probably yes. Apart from this madness I’m still swaying towards them. They’re the only party who discuss children with special needs, and special needs schools (not just labour charging vat to improve mainstream) and that’s a big priority for me. If I didn’t vote Lib Dem I’d be voting green and that would be a wasted vote here.

OP posts:
NetballHoop · 26/06/2024 09:47

I'm also voting Lib Dem despite their policies on gender as I really don't think the other main parties are much better.

Lib Dems are the only party with any chance of unseating the tories where I vote and having spoken to the candidate at the weekend she seemed capable and honest.

Newgirls · 26/06/2024 09:52

I think of the parties I like more Lib Dem policies than others. The Tory attitude to women is woeful - does bj even know how many kids he has? I’d consider labour but round here they won’t win.

N4ish · 26/06/2024 10:01

I'm finding Ed Davey's antics on the campaign trail (falling off boats, making silly faces on waterslides etc) very offputting. There are incredibly serious issues facing the country and any candidate acting in that way makes me feel they're treating the whole thing as a joke.

MissyB1 · 26/06/2024 10:06

verdantverdure · 25/06/2024 06:07

It depends where you live doesn't it?

There are probably 50-100 or so constituencies where the Lib Dems have a chance.

I'm voting tactically in my constituency for the party most likely to win that isn't the Conservative Party

Which on my case is the Lib Dems.

Same here. Need to oust the Tory MP, that means voting Lib Dem. So that's what I will do.

StoneColdAlibi · 26/06/2024 10:20

I am in the same position. I will be voting Lib Dem as their policies as a whole are most aligned with my views, though the gender ideology is making it a very, very reluctant vote. In my constituency they are the only option for unseating the Conservatives, and I think a balance of MPs from across the parties would be the best outcome for the country for the next parliamentary term.

VoteLabour · 26/06/2024 10:24

Vote for the candidate who will best represent your constituency.

I'm in what I hope is a Labour safe seat, and the incumbent seems by far the best candidate.

The neighbouring constituencies are 'Tory safe seats' and I think many will vote LibDem, judging from the posts on local SM.

He gets asked about that a lot
doesn't he?

By the media who wouldn't be there to ask him anything if he didn't do these things.

He always says something about getting attention fur a serious issue any way he can.

I think it must be harder to get "cut through" if you're not one of the main two parties.

True, acting the clown gets media attention. I'm not convinced it actually wins over any undecided voters but maybe any attention is better than being ignored. The antics put me off personally but maybe others think it makes him seem down to earth and fun to go for a pint with.
