Just that really! There is so, so much saying it’s only between Tory and Labour that I fear it’s a self fulfilling prophecy.

There are some of us out there who think differently!

I think they are quite sweet activities and come across better than when BJ tried it. I prefer them to Rishi in high vis with a burger. So fake. Man’s a multi millionaire who I doubt has ever put a bin out

Ticktockk · 26/06/2024 12:57

To be fair, a couple of months ago most people wouldn’t have been able to tell you the name of the Lib Dem leader. I think his PR team are just doing all they can to get him ‘out there’.

I really like their manifesto, but cannot get past their views on womens rights.

1dayatatime · 26/06/2024 14:03

The issue for me on the Lib Dem's are:
Their policies on gender
Their manifesto has a £27 billion underfunded black hole (compared to £5 billion for Labour, £13 billion for the Tories, £141 billion for Reform and £160 billion for the Greens)
That they don't have any real policies other than not being the Conservatives and appealing to former Tory voters that can't quite stomach a 180 turn to Labour.

I don't really have anyone to vote for who shares my views on getting rid of Brexit and rejoining the EU ASAP.

And if I did it would be pointless to vote for them because it doesn't much matter if we agree if they're not going to be in power.

So I have decided it's reasonable to either vote tactically for my choice out of the two parties expected to get the most votes so I am influencing the result.

OR

Vote fir the party that most aligns with my views across the board. Life isn't single issue so voting can't be either.

verdantverdure · 26/06/2024 14:05

Obligatory meme:

I’m voting lib dem
TizerorFizz · 26/06/2024 17:20

I cannot find one that’s close. I’m getting a taxi.

DangerDangerHighMoisture · 26/06/2024 17:24

They would 100% have my vote, were it not for their dire policies on gender. As a gender critical woman, as it stands I 100% would never vote for them.

DangerDangerHighMoisture · 26/06/2024 17:27

I disagree, gender issues are my line in the sand I'm afraid. As a woman who is raising girls it's the main issue for me

Absolutely. I think it's important to exercise critical thinking re all of the parties and make the best decision we can for our own personal circumstances. We all have different views and red lines.

TizerorFizz · 26/06/2024 17:45

Overall, parties make odd pronouncements which will turn some people off. Lib Dems are alienating some and they didn’t need to but they have a democratic policy making system so they have always embraced the odd policy they should not.

TheFallenMadonna · 26/06/2024 17:49

I'm voting LibDem because I want a Labour government, live in what is currently a Conservative constituency and want to help reduce the Tory seat count.

I don't feel like I have the luxury of voting on a single issue.

We all need a functioning country.

At the end of the day I've decided that the best thing I can do is contribute my vote to voting tactically to reduce the ranks of Tory MPs.

So I'm voting Lib Dem because they are the main competition to the Tories in my constituency.

And judging by the amount of campaigning Jeremy Hunt is doing he must think they have a good chance.

The trouble is, his party damaged all of our pension funds and put up all of our mortgage payments.

And we have BIG mortgages round here.

Plus people hold him personally responsible for sone of the deterioration of the NHS.

So fingers crossed.

UtterlyOtterly · 26/06/2024 18:06

I live in a LibDem safe seat. The only posters up are orange diamonds. It makes me despair.

I wrote to the MP, asking him for specific answers to questions I had about self Id and women's rights to spaces and sports rather than "sharing" with biological men.

The reply was full of inclusivity waffle which wasn't actually my precise point. I suspect it was written by a woke work experience teenager.

Still not sure who I'm voting for but it won't be Tory, Labour, LibDem, Green or Reform.

I can only think about the election for a short while each day, it is too depressing and probably not good for my blood pressure.

I agree, that’s how I view it too. I did a ‘vote for policies’ survey, and it went Lib Dem by some distance. But I really don’t like their stance on gender ID at all.

Anyway, where I live, the only party to vote for to keep the Tories out is Labour, so I’ll be voting for them.

TizerorFizz · 26/06/2024 18:52

Andrew Lansley has been forgotten then? It’s all Hunt’s fault? Simplistic to say the least. Covid has nothing to do with it either? Or an aging population?

Inanun2 · 26/06/2024 19:12

There is a tool online which tells you who the closest party is to vote for tactically to keep a party out. However when I used it it was too close to call and they did not give me an answer. Last election 2019 Tory won with 20k majority and Labour and Lib Dem both had similar number of votes between them so I am really unsure which way to vote and have to second guess who everyone else is tactically voting for.

Amatueuragonyaunt · 24/06/2024 19:46

To be honest, I read an article which blind tested public opinion on party policies and the Lib-Dems' policies were by far and away the most popular so I also wish it wasn't constantly being portrayed as Tory vs Labour. I also hate the idea of tactical voting as it goes against my core principles.

This.
I have been shouting this at the TV for years.
The media portray it as a 2 party race, and that becomes self fulfilling. Angry

I hate the idea of tactical voting too, and have always voted for the candidate I want but last GE we ended up with a Tory MP with his nose up whoever the PM is at the time's backside. We are a marginal seat. I have to decide whether to vote for the person I think will best represent me or whether to make sure the current MP is voted out. Principles are all well and good, but sometimes the strength of feeling against one candidate is stronger than the strength of feeling for another candidate.

Of course, all of this would be so much fairer and representative of what the whole population wants, if we had a system of proportional representation where every vote counts.

It goes against mine too.

That's why I vote for who I think would be the best MP for the constituency,

Are you replying to my post where I said that Jeremy Hunt's problem here in this constituency is that people hold him personally responsible for some of the deterioration of the NHS?

I think the impact on people's lives of the party in government is greater than the impact of an individual MP. So that's what I'm voting for.

VoteLabour · 26/06/2024 22:10

@TheFallenMadonna , as long as you vote, that's fine by me, but the best candidate for your constituency might not be one of the parties likely to be in power.
An example might be Caroline Lucas MP, who seems to have been a hard-working MP for her party and constituency, but the only MP for that party.

TizerorFizz · 26/06/2024 22:39

@verdantverdure Yes. Sorry. Forgot to tag you. I do feel that’s an easy slim to vote Hunt out. It’s not necessarily the whole picture. At £175 billion spent on NHS. I’m looking for efficiencies, not more in the black hole. I think there’s been mistakes in the NHS, but Hunt wasn’t 100% to blame.

VoteLabour · 26/06/2024 23:03

Isn't Jeremic's seat in True Blue Surrey? I think the constituency boundary has changed but would that mean it is no longer a given that it will no longer be won by a Tory?

We spend less per head on health services than most other countries though don't we?

So how much more efficiencies can there be?

And we must remember that the billions spent on useless VIP Lane PPE, plus the costs of storing it and the costs of burning it were all added to the NHS's bottom line so none of us saw any benefit from those billions.
