Sunak won't have a chance to enact his Rwanda deal.
Thankfully.

I think Fiona said last week it was the leaders of the four main parties from the last parliament so that’s why Nigel wasn’t there and why it was only SNP and not Plaid Cymru too

He won’t, but his willingness to withdraw from the ECHR because it is saying his plan is wrong is chilling. Isn’t it the sort of thing that Hitler would have done?

Edited

It does sound like it.

We bloody wrote the ECHR! The Tories are shameful people, Reform would do the same as them. Enough of this foreign nonsense, I was glad to hear Sunak was barracked for saying it was foreign.

Yes, he's such a liar.

I'll never understand why people vote Tory.

Starmer's biggest problem is he can't answer any question directly. He has to waffle for five minutes about the background to why it's an issue and what the options/questions are before eventually getting around to what he will do. I fall asleep before he gets to the crux of the matter. If he gave up all the lengthy answers he might win more people over, and would have had time for more questions.

His reply on Rosie Duffield was pitiful. "I agree with Tony". Not mentioning Rosie is becoming his 'don't mention the war'. It's stupid and insulting, to Rosie and to women.

It’s a simplistic opinion, I know, but I blame Thatcher. She encouraged and rewarded a sense of caring only for oneself. All sense of community should be ignored. She valued selfishness.

Some people do alright. I get why they vote Tory. The ones I can’t fathom are those who’ve got a kicking.

I agree, but think he improved as time went on.

Because Nigel is a racist fuckwit

Hasn’t stopped them inviting him on question time about 50 times. That programme is the reason he got so well known.

RobinStrike · 20/06/2024 22:26

Having said that, listening to Wes Streeting latest interviews I live in hope that he has started to understand why women take issue with not having biological women as the definition in the EA. Labour will be better on everything else so just have to hold their feet to the fire on this.

Papyrophile · 20/06/2024 22:26

I'm quite glad it was my Spanish class tonight. I might have felt obliged to inform myself otherwise. I think I understand direct object pronouns though.

AnneLovesGilbert · 20/06/2024 22:26

Both kids were up separately so I missed some of Rishi but overall I think it was probably worth doing all in?

RobinStrike · 20/06/2024 22:29

@Apolloneuro I agree. He did improve as it went on. It's frustrating that he isn't a better political speaker, I expected an ex DPP to be more fluent and articulate.

rockstarshoes · 20/06/2024 22:31

The way that Sunak shouted down the girl who asked about the ECHR was disgraceful!!

And the audience shouting Shame & shame on you was brilliant!

I hope we get to see the footage of the credits without the music!

Disastrous for Sunak!

Have a read of the “Long standing Conservative voters” thread, contrary to popular belief people who have previously voted Tory (myself included, along with also voting Labour and Lib Dem in the past) do not sport horns and cloven hooves 😜

I think he’s much better than he’s currently showing. He didn’t get to hold the senior position he had for nothing, presumably.

It’s currently about keeping as many people on side as possible, I think.

Itisjustmyopinion · 20/06/2024 22:35

It’s both hilarious and scary when there are people, including posters on here, that say they will have to vote Tory as the alternative is terrifying. I think Rishi’s plan to remove us from the ECHR is the one that’s terrifying

What on earth goes through Tory supporters heads when we hear things like we did tonight?

Cheguevarahamster · 20/06/2024 22:38

My god Sunak was awful. Aggressive, tetchy and all over the place. Just dismal.

Yes. It sounded like he was being shouted at by several people over the credits, didn’t it.

He lost his cool with that last person didn’t he? She really rattled him.

The ECHR issue did him no favours did it (thank god. Imagine living in a country where the majority of people thought it was a fab idea to not belong to a continent wide body that protects….Human Rights)

Why do you think he’s pretending to be less good at speaking than he is? When will he show how capable he really is? I’m not being argumentative, genuinely interested as I also think a person with his experience would be far better on his feet.

TeenagersAngst · 20/06/2024 22:48

Rishi Sunak was on a hiding to nothing. The audience massacred him and that was always going to be the case.

What would you all have done differently if you were him? Other than leave the country?

I think he is pretty good but clearly he is repeating key lines and messages which are intended to say “Labour has changed”, “trust me I live for public service”. Blair was much better at this. Starmer doesn’t sell soundbites very well, and his answers are sometimes lawyerly, so he gives the key bit of the answer at the end after working through the logic.

Good lawyer technique, but good politics? Not sure. Thought he got a lot better when he had got through the “reassurance” messaging and got specific on what he would do.

AnneLovesGilbert · 20/06/2024 22:52

I wouldn’t leave till 5 July but I’d stop putting myself through it if I were him. He’s got a fabulous swimming pool, more money than the King, two lovely children he must be missing, all of which sounds nicer than getting attacked by a tv audience.
