General election 2024

If you're an undecided voter, what are the issues that are stopping you from deciding?

As an 'undecided voter', I was watching the Sky News interviews last night and felt myself warming more toward KS. When he started talking honestly about the possible impact on his kids...he suddenly seemed really human, a dad who wanted to pursue this opportunity but wanted to protect his children from the worst of it. However, I'm still undecided.

My politics are usually centre/middle and over the years I've voted Tory and Labour...basically whichever party I felt most aligned with my values.

All I know for sure is that I don't want more of the same and while I am definitely warming to Labour (as well as my local candidate who seems nice) I'm not keen on some others within the party.

I worry that by voting in the seemingly nice people, that it's a door opened to something I can't get on board with. You could equally say the same of the Tories though!!

So I'm wondering if there's any other 'undecided voters' out there (from any side of politics) and what are the issues/policies that are preventing you from being able to make a decision?

I wanted to email the candidates in my constituency to ask them for their views re gender ideology, womens rights and safeguarding. Of the 7 candidates, 3 haven't published their email addresses, 1 bounced back as undeliverable and 2 haven't bothered replying. So I've had one reply. Pointless.

And I include Rosie Duffield in the honourable MP class - I would vote for her if she was standing in my constituency.

As it is, I have a long list of 13 to choose from including Count Binface and the Monster Raving Looney Party. But I will probably vote Labour or Green (we still have a Green Party who are focused on the environment thank goodness). But I think only Labour can realistically unseat Rishi but the candidate appears to live in London so what do I do?

Please, please take one for the team and lend your vote to the candidate most likely to get shot of him. 🙏

‘I wish people would just vote for their best local candidate irrespective of party so we get decent, honourable MPs with a vocation for public service back into the houses of parliament.’

It’s really difficult if you like the local candidate but don’t agree with their party policies. One local chap understands the local issues and is always campaigning to change things and has achieved some really results. I would vote for him as an individual but his part policies leave me cold.

Mytholmroyd · 20/06/2024 19:48

I most probably will @BIossomtoes 😊 it is a strategic game now I guess. I know my kids have sent off their postal votes and voted labour - I am really pleased they have registered and voted 😊

Yes that is true - there is never a perfect option is there 😊

Yes as a mum of three daughters I am not leaning towards labour

I wonder if the numbers pushing this line have increased or decreased since it became evident Rishi's on his way out and holding the door open for the tories to file out.

bluedomino · 20/06/2024 20:10

I cant vote for a party that has a man who pretends to believe that women have penises. If he's willing to lie about that then there is nothing he won't lie about or pretend.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 20/06/2024 20:29

I can't find one party that represents the majority of my views:

Conservatives - don't want to vote for National Service, cuts to university courses, Rwanda policy, increase on tax brackets for pensioners but not for working people.
Labour - not convinced by their fudge on the Cass Review and their treatment of Rosie Duffield. Plus their flagship policy will have a huge negative impact on my family (school fees vat).
LibDem/Greens - no way due to their views on gender ideology, but some of their individual policies are interesting.

Still no closer to deciding and time is running out! Although tbh it'll make no difference as I am in an extremely safe labour seat (will definitely vote though).

Exactly.

My son’s just sent his postal vote off. He’s a Green voter but he’s lent the Labour candidate his vote this time.

Tinylittleunicorn · 20/06/2024 20:38

I want to vote tactically but my seat is still (remarkably) forecasted as a safe Tory seat.

The tactical voting sites cannot make a recommendation for a tactical vote. I'm basically trying to predict whether Labour or Lib Dems will be more successful. Lib Dems have always been more successful in the past but the polls are suggesting Labour will take second place this time around. Then I am considering if the forecast is for a safe seat anyway, should I vote Green purely as an environmental protest vote (they stand no chance of gaining the seat)?

Wish we did not have stupid FPTP - another reason to vote Lib Dems potentially. My candidate has never won in a general election and so my vote has have never been represented in parliament.

I'm beginning to think I'll vote for whoever out of Labour or Lib Dems or Greens comes to the door, simply on the basis that I know many others vote that way. But of course, noone is going to come to the door as we're in a safe seat

NewtGuineaPig · 21/06/2024 17:49

I think I'd like to be able to vote Labour as a middle ground but they seem to almost be ashamed of being on the left and I lean towards the more Communist end of the political spectrum. I am worried about climate change and I don't feel like any of the major parties have any clue what to do. I feel like a massive change is needed and I don't think any of the parties I can vote for will bring that change.

paolo2145 · 22/06/2024 01:53

No party is perfect and Labour do need to get to grips with woman and gender issue and fast.

However, for this election the thought of another 5 years of Tory corruption , infighting, new PM's every year or so , sleaze, complete destruction of NHS, public services & infrastructure not to mention they will go even further to right to appeal to Reform voters.: I will be voting tactically for Labour.

I do not think the UK can survive another 5 yrs of Tory incompetence & sleaze and hat is bottom line for me.

bluebellsandspring · 22/06/2024 12:17

I think for too long Labour took women for granted. Many people felt they couldn't speak out about gender issues for fear of being called a transphobe, bigot, far right or all three. Keir Starmer thought because no one was mentioning these issues on the door step they weren't important. He either underestimated or didn't care about the extent to which people felt they could not speak out and these issues are coming back to bite him.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 22/06/2024 13:35

This is still happening daily on here 🙄

ScribblingPixie · 22/06/2024 14:21

He must know differently now. But seems to think it's a good idea to shut women down with the 'toxic arguments' line, which makes me burn with anger!

Same for me

Me too

BIossomtoes · 22/06/2024 15:28

I don’t suppose for a moment anyone much mentioned it on the doorstep until J K Rowling’s denunciation of Labour hit the news. Give it a few weeks and it will be forgotten again.

How do you know?

All the people who say they have discussed this issue with candidates on their doorstep?

bluebellsandspring · 22/06/2024 17:45

I raised it last weekend with a labour canvasser I had at the door. He was very nice, shook his head, looked a bit embarrassed and confessed that he didn't agree with everything that some members of the labour party had said.

What all the people on MN? 😂

I mean, the people on MN are real people...

If any candidate was unlucky enough to knock on my door it would be the first thing I raised.

Given that you don’t even live in this country that possibly is vanishingly small, isn’t it? MN isn’t the whole country, it’s a very small, self selecting sample.
