Sunak: Stupid or a bare faced liar?

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/06/2024 16:31

In last night's debate, he repeatedly made a big deal out of a "completely independent report" about Labour costing £2000 per household. It was his answer to nearly everything.Hmm

But it was known to be a lie. So why did he tell it? Did he think people wouldn't find out? Has he not learnt that the country is sick to the back teeth of lying Tory PMs?

Who thought this was a good idea?Shock

I thought Sunaks selling point was that he may not be as entertaining as Boris Johnson but at least he might be truthful.

No more buses falsely promising £300 million for the NHS, no more lying about being at illegal lockdown parties and no more having senior civil servants say you lied about not knowing about your MPs sexual misconduct.

Now senior civil servants are having to say Sunsk is lying by saying the £2000 tax figure came from the civil service rather than being a figure the Tories made up.

I think it is a very bad luck for Sunak and if Labour are smart they will hammer him about being another Tory liar.

The Tories really do have contempt for the British public, don't they?

Yes they do. Disgusting liars who laughed and parties while people suffered and died alone.Angry

It was outrageous to claim that figure was provided by the Treasury. Such a blatant lie, and he knew exactly what he was doing.

Shame there won't be any repercussions for him.

because its true, bud.

I'm loving the polling options. Shame there is not an "all of the above" option 😂

So what happens if starmer hikes taxes and it turns out sunak is right ? Does starmer get called a liar or does it just get put down to had to happen 14 years of Tory mismanagement etc ?

The latter argument wouldn’t really work since taxes are currently the highest for 70 years. I’m looking forward to them finding out where the money’s gone.

That wasn’t the question though

WittyMcAdder · 06/06/2024 21:26

If Starmer raises income tax or NI or the 20% rate for VAT in the next five years, he should be held to account for it.

They are taxes he has clearly said he will not raise.

Has he committed to an entire term? He’s very foolish if he has, Blair said he wouldn’t for two years.

Fair point and I'm not sure. The writing I saw didn't give a timeframe but, if they haven't given any timings it's seems a bit 'loophole' if they leave it open ended and then say 'but we never said how long'.

Of course this is all my musing and none of which could happen.

Kendodd · 06/06/2024 22:41

He's neither.
The knows his lie will be a widely repeated soundbite. It will get into the heads of the gullible who will trot along and vote for them. If there's one thing we have learnt in recent years, it's that lying works. Even big fat obvious lies like £3.5 mill on the side of a bus, people believe it. Sunak knows this.
Personally I think £2,000 would be a bargain to get rid of the Tories, so even if it wasn't a lie, I'd happily pay it.

😂😂😂

That's one of your "FACTS" isn't it?

DuncinToffee · 06/06/2024 23:06

Sunak has done an interview with ITV doubling down on the tax lie

He left the D-Day commemorations today to do the interview, the date was No10's choice

Scruffily · 06/06/2024 23:25

He's clearly both stupid and a liar. He's also inherently weak.

So you know better than, um, the civil servant who Sunak claims calculated his figures?

He missed the d day afternoon ceremony to do that interview. Talk about priorities

CassieMaddox · 07/06/2024 08:23

I think this is interesting in lots of ways.

Firstly that Sunak blatantly lied....again. Tory playbook, and in terms of being "accountable" which I'm all for, he said he was bringing integrity back and we could hold him accountable. So pretty stupid of him to lie.

Secondly the Tories own plans are going to cost a fortune. Abolishing NI? National service? Triple lock plus for pensioners? The money for these things has to come from somewhere and they have not said where. I suspect because they know they aren't getting in so don't have to pay for it.

Thirdly, yes we are screwed as a country financially and have to pay for it somewhere. I blame the Tories for that. 14 years of "austerity", supposedly to get clear up after the last Labour government and all that's happened is we have even more debt AND completely broken public services that need investing in. I think/hope Labour will be upfront about that in their manifesto but the Tories claiming they will cut tax is just a steaming pile of bullshit.

Using the same data, The Spectator reckons it will £3k if Sunak is elected.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 07/06/2024 09:24

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator has Tory printed through her like a stick of rock. There has been nothing they would do in recent years that she wouldn't defend.

frankentall · 07/06/2024 09:27

I think @DistinguishedSocialCommentator is some badly written AI. Surely cannot be a person?

Yes as I've heard many experts talk about that have looked at the figures, right!!

"Many experts" 🤣🤣🤣

Oh you do make us laugh. Your posts are entertaining now that we know not to take them seriously.

Reminds me of Joe Lycett and all his "I'm very right wing" jokes.
