Immigrants not illegal if they claim asylum, which anyone is entitled to do. They become “illegal” once their claim has been processed and rejected.

You're paying for the rest of the country because you've had basically all of the investment for the last 40 years while the rest of the country feeds off scraps. Cause and effect.

Yes, I agree. Government policies over a few decades have deliberately concentrated on London/SE to the detriment of the rest of the county which have given the illusion of London being the economic power house. But the reality is that lots of customers and workers are outside London, but their "money" is shown as being derived in London because that's where most head offices have relocated to. A supermarket in deepest Bradford is generating profits, employment, etc., in Bradford, but the profits are shown on "London's balance sheet". Same with the banks and insurance/financial firms - their customers are spread all over the UK, but the profit figures are shown in London. Without the rest of the country, London's economy would be a basket case, i.e. if it solely relied on staff and customers within London!

Amazing how you lot change it to migration to suit your agenda
it’s ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION that’s the problem NOT immigration ON ITS OWN !!

some people just won’t face up to REALITY!! All these ILLEGAL immigrants stabbing people …. Is that really what you want? If so, you are sick in the head!
two of the latest ones had been rejected from staying in the UK and no wonder when all that is in there heart is to kill! They do not deserve to be here!

My daughter’s friend got stabbed by a born and bred Londoner. Crazies are everywhere. It’s not race dependent.

always get nasty when you have lost the argument

they are not the ones with nasty posts

DuncinToffee · 09/06/2024 13:12

If you mean small boats when you say 'illegal immigration', the numbers are utterly dwarfed by other types of legal immigration.

I’m genuinely interested - what has been the impact?

I live in middle class leafy area, we can’t get a GP appointment, we still have anti social behaviour from local youths (who are white & intimidating ) there no police, local fb page reports thefts every day, council tax is ridiculous & most goes to pay for social care, roads are more potholes than actual road. Town has more charity & coffee shops than actual shops. Houses are unaffordable, huge building projects with lots of social part ownership building on green field sites.

A high amount of ESL children joining can have a huge impact on the quality of teaching and decreased ability to support sen children already in the schools. Obviously it shouldn't be the case as each child should get the extra support they need funded, but obviously in reality that's not how it works.

Sunhatweather · 13/06/2024 22:21

No OP, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to vote reform if you feel they speak for you.
I’ve voted Tory and Labour (mainly Lab) in my time and I will be voting for Reform.
Immigration is lower down on my list of issues. I want a party who will bring in proportional representation so each vote counts. I want a change to the political gridlock and an opposition who will really challenge the party in power.

I agree. No one dislikes the Poles but the local primary going from nearly nothing to 47 % EAL in 2012 was clearly why Brexit happened in my part of the world.
It was impossible for school's to cope or even for communities to adjust to differences.
My town has gone from rural to London immigrants. Its impossible to digest cultural differences within a decade .
I think Brexit seems to have evened out. Those that are here are in.

I have no idea how Spain copes frankly.

Fawful · 14/06/2024 13:50

When quoting rates of EAL, remember that it's defined as including all those 'exposed to a language at home that is known or believed to be other than English'
Some (most, for all you know) are bilingual or don't even speak the foreign language they hear at home.
When my DS was at primary school, I had to tick the box hat he had EAL, because I spoke at home in my own language. It made no difference that he didn't speak it at all. 🤷‍♀️ As explained on the dept for education website.

mansplainingsincethe90s · 14/06/2024 15:34

Authoritarian, militarised, xenophobic. Hmmm where have I seen that in the past?

MgW1 · 15/06/2024 10:16

Just to bring it back to the OP , I am considering voting reform. Voted Labour twice in the past and once for tory. I can't see how Labour will benefit me and mu husband who are middle ish earners ( 40k and 50k ) we have 4 children and our mortgage has gone up to 1300 , we run 2 cars ( just to add to context). I think we would only benefit from free school breakfasts and our kids don't bloody like breakfast anyway!!! I think this great British energy would cost a hell of a lot and they will increase council tax plus re - band homes ? Although it's shite, il probably stick with what we have now or Reform. I think financially middle earners will be a lot less off. Please carefully read the manifestos because I feel a lot of people have strong opinions but don't even know what's on their manifestos!!! Plus in terms of immigration , what happens to the thousands living in hotels ?! West Yorkshire is still swamped and their in no housing.

Hopebridge · 15/06/2024 21:46

I have been reading through reform. Lots of money saving for people taxes, university fees, healthcare. I can't see where the money is coming from? If we will be paying less for fuel, less tax and less for education and healthcare how will he pay for it all? Sounds too good to be true. Unless I'm missing something?

I have always thought the interest on student loans is wrong for example so an all for scrapping that. I like the idea of practical courses being taught etc.

It’s fantasy economics because they know they’ll never have to implement their lunatic policies.

MikeRafone · 16/06/2024 14:28

reform dangle the carrot, tell you a scary story and appear to want to protect you

they are very clever at getting poor people to believe they are the answer to their problems. What they want to do will make people poorer by selling them stuff

TinklySnail · 16/06/2024 14:37

I would say if you want vote Reform then vote for them.
It’s your vote, nobody else’s.

Partially disagree. I agree that school should regulate ESL admission balancing the resource they have, sensibly not in huge numbers all of a sudden.
However, from what I have observed in my DC's school in London, ESL children on average have a higher SAT scores in English than native speakers. So, it's a mixed bag, it depends which culture ESL children from and some culture do value education much more than the others. They are not necessarily a problem that cause SEN resource shortages.
One counter argument is that many London grammar schools are dominated by ESL of certain cultural groups. To ask why it's the case, it's because those ESL families work extra hard at home tutoring their children. It's arguably those ESL children from certain culture groups make teaching easier and let teachers to allocate more resources/ time on SEN.

marciaa · 17/06/2024 14:14

Ilovemyshed · 04/06/2024 16:17

It won't though. All that will happen is there is much more risk of a hung parliament and stagnation for 5 years.

I think a coalition with Reform would be ideal actually.

bombastix · 17/06/2024 15:49

For all the jolly Farage stuff there are some scary very hard right people behind him and this party. Two candidates who think Hitler was good, and one that has just resigned after being exposed as endorsing the BNP. These are just the ones on surface. I don’t think anyone should go into voting for them with that knowledge of who they attract as potential representatives. If you have to ask your local candidate on whether Hitler is good or not then you are probably exactly what they want in support

Paul2023 · 19/06/2024 06:58

mossylog · 04/06/2024 13:40

Their main policy is net zero migration, so if you particularly hate foreigners then they are the party for you. Otherwise, maybe pick someone else.

Ahhh…it’s not about hating foreigners. It’s about having some control on out of control immigration.

If you think the UK can sustain 600 or 700 k migrants coming to the UK every year you must be very naive.

Reform seem to be the only party to say they’ll cut immigration.

The conservatives have said this since 2010 and look how that turned out.

Is this really true though ? Or propaganda? The media have a habit of spinning things sometimes.

BIossomtoes · 19/06/2024 07:33

How can you spin that?
