Now the investigation has closed I hope people will leave her alone.

OP posts:

They won't.

Tories hate the fact that a gobby (as she describes herself), working class Northern woman is about to become deputy PM.

SofaThrow · 28/05/2024 18:00

I doubt she will be Deputy Pm for long. Starmer will shuffle her out as soon as he can. He is no fan of the Corbynista Left.

Thingscanonlygetsunk · 28/05/2024 18:29

While they were at it did they discover whether the Pope was Catholic?

Does anyone know what offence they were investigating?

Starmer does not have the power to do that @SofaThrow

On edit: he could give her a different post, I suppose, but she'd still be deputy leader.

LlynTegid · 28/05/2024 19:43

I would like to see the person who made the vexatious complaint be charged with wasting police time. Won't happen though.

Cantgetausername87 · 28/05/2024 19:46

I note the lack of mainstream news coverage about it...
Thought it would make a headline somewhere?!

Starmer does not have the power to "shuffle her out"

The deputy leader is directly elected by all Labour party members and affiliated organisations using 1-member 1-vote. She can only be removed if someone runs against her (meeting the rules for nomination) and then wins the subsequent vote.

She can however, be "shuffled aside" as she is only entitled to the deputy leader position. Under Starmer, she has already lost the Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster post and the Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office post and only retains the post of Shadow Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities. If Labour win and Starmer appoints someone else to Levelling Up, she would only be a minster without portfolio with little influence.

Good. She is going to beat all those pathetic losers who hate her; they can’t stand her because she doesn’t even pretend to play lip service to Tory niceties. They can’t stand it that she’s got anything or anywhere by not even being slightly like them.

They couldn’t bring her down fairly so they did this. Contemptible

You don't think that her being a far left transactivist might put people off regardless of her background?

BringMeSunshineAllDayLong · 29/05/2024 08:53

@SofaThrow far left 😂.
Not convinced you understand what that means.
I personally didn't think much of Rayner until I listened to the "Leading" podcast with Alistair Campbell and Rory Stewart. She comes across brilliantly in that

bombastix · 29/05/2024 08:55

@SofaThrow if you disagree with her politically that is fair. What is not fair or reasonable to anyone is to engineer open misogyny in Parliament and push not once but twice a criminal investigation. That is worthy of contempt and these are the actions of the Conservatives. At any time they could have engaged with actual politics.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 29/05/2024 08:56

Labour have managed out the political behemoth that is Dianne Abbott so if Angela Rayner turns out to be an embarrassment then surely they will find a way for her as well.

Well, she managed to hang on to her seat when much of the rest of the Red Wall turned blue in 2019. So no, her being a, er, "far left transactivist" doesn't put people off.

Simone86 · 29/05/2024 08:57

How convenient for her!

Oh, bless. Another one who is pissed off that AR did nothing wrong.

What makes you think Rayner is far left???

Is she anymore a Trans activist than Mordaunt? Theresa May or Victoria Atkins?

The Tories can't get her on made up fraud claims, so the line of attack is to say she is a Far left Trans Activist......

She describes herself as Soft Left.

NashvilleQueen · 29/05/2024 09:03

Hi @Simone86 have you any thoughts about the police or HMRC looking into Nadhim Zahawi and his tax affairs?

SofaThrow · 29/05/2024 09:24

Well I would describe her as hard left. I am allowed a difference of opinion I believe? But I voted Blair and loved what the party was then - not so much now.

And yes Mordaunt is also a transactivist - I am not sure what your point is? Unless, of course, it is to pretend that anyone who criticises anything Labour must be a Tory. It's so fucking tiresome tbf.

Diane Abbott hasn’t been managed out. The treatment of her has been an absolute disgrace. She has the biggest Labour majority in the country and has endured horrendous racism and misogyny during her decades as an MP. What the fuck is it about successful women that evokes such vitriol?

Absolutely.

She’s not standing for Labour now though?

Resilience · 29/05/2024 09:40

I dislike AR not because she's a working class, "gobby northern lass" (I wanted to like her for these reasons) but because whenever I hear her talk she's all about denigrating the other parties rather than offering solutions. I think it encourages that brand of immature, point-scoring politics that so many politicians of all colours seem to love so much.

However, in my view there's no doubt whatsoever that regardless of what really happened with her house, the fact it was investigated is in no small part down to naked
misogyny and political manipulation.

BIossomtoes · 29/05/2024 09:41

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 29/05/2024 09:38

She’s 70 and retiring after 37 years in parliament. I don’t blame her, she must be pretty tired now.

Yes she has suffered racism and misogyny which is disgusting. Women MPs have a dreadful time in politics still.
The fact remains that she wrote a very ill advised and offensive letter which has got her in to this situation. And of course she has been managed out - what else would you call it?
