chillymorns · 25/05/2024 16:21

Whoever they are.

I want -

A better management and investment in key areas of the NHS

Cheaper utilities

More money for disabled people and their families

More tax on those earning over a certain %, so maybe those on £100k plus being taxed a bit further

Cheaper railways being introduced

Better investment in local facilities

Please share yours Smile I voted Labour last time and will do so again. The Tories just need to be gone, and I'm not convinced those with any sense will say otherwise

Fairness, justice, competence, integrity

Needmorelego · 25/05/2024 19:14

"Proper" council housing to be built and maintained.
Society cannot function properly if people don't even have a safe and secure place to live.
More public transport.
Scrap T-Levels and not scrap btec.
Better ways to recycle.

I really want mortgage interest rates to come back down, it’s so frustrating, I finally have the deposit to buy a little house but I’d be an idiot to with the rates the way they are at the moment. And better health and social care.

An admission that long and repeated lockdowns caused much more harm than good, especially to children, and how they intend to put this right; and a grovelling apology for supporting lockdowns. (Because they all did: labour’s only criticism of lockdown was that it ever ended.) Also that the campaign of fear was a very bad move.

And yes, I think this is important, and it’s not a case of “it’s done now”. It set an absolutely monstrous precedent, and there is a very real danger of such a thing being repeated, with no shame at all, unless the massive damage is TALKED ABOUT. They will try to bury it and forget it; we must not let this happen.

I agree. It NEEDS talking about so that when we have another pandemic, there are proper plans in place to deal with it, not the stupid scattergun approach that did untold damage to the economy and peoples' mental health, often unnecessarily, not to mention the eye watering costs incurred and still 3 million freelancers/self employed excluded from support. So much was done badly, the last thing we want is for politicians and civil servants to think we'll put up with the same nonsense when it happens again.

Means test all currently non means tested benefits. All of them.

Yup, I agree. If they can means test child benefit, then they can means test all the other benefits including free prescriptions, state pension, free bus passes, etc etc.

Miley1967 · 25/05/2024 19:45

Lots of things but most importantly :

Sort out housing and build more affordable housing.
Sort out the NHS, particularly for older people and for MH services.
Reform of the benefits system.
Better opportunities for young people- more apprentices etc.

I want them to eradicate poverty and fix healthcare

TinyYellow · 25/05/2024 19:47

I want them to recognise that Palestinians and refugees from other places have human rights and as an apparently civilised society, we should be promoting them, especially when our actions had a hand in their suffering.

I want an enquiry into lockdown that answers questions relevant to people’s lives rather than how many people were in a room in Downing Street. They need to answer for the extended lockdowns, for cancelling public exams before announcing a lockdown when they had plenty of time to come up with an alternative, for the damage done to children and students, for the ridiculous rules they implemented around care homes, and those are just the things off the top of my head.

I want healthcare and education staff to be paid in line with what they deserve, long NHS waiting lists to be eradicated, and schools to have access to all the resources they need.

something2say · 25/05/2024 19:51

I want a totally different approach to life.

To be much more climate and humanitarian led.

To do away with a business led model and to only ever prioritize doing the right thing.

To let industry leaders and excellence lead each sector ie health, education.

To get ex soldiers to start camps for youth who may need or choose it, where they learn skills, health and fitness and camaraderie in the morning and have educational and emotional needs met in the afternoon using the great many counsellors who are always becoming qualified.

To change our way of life to centre human needs.

The COVID inquiry will have to deal with this, but a grovelling apology is highly unlikely.

This would destroy the pension system, absolutely dreadful suggestion.

We need state pensions, which is the only universal benefit anyway.

Child Benefit should never have been changed.

Improvement to the NHS, better & faster access to treatment, waiting no longer than 48 hours for GP appointments. Guaranteed access to an NHS dentist for everyone who wants it. Waiting lists reduced, continue to use private theatre slots for routine operations to get lists down. Better treatment for pregnant women, improved outcomes for childbirth, make all post natal wards single rooms with partners able to stay over if mothers want it, stepped down care for mothers after C section or difficult births, cottage hospital type care units. More research into cancer, it's causes, full access to all cancer drugs, not just the cheapest ones.

More housing, in particular social housing, make all homes suitable for disabled access, level access, widened doors, downstairs toilets. Built more adapted bungalows, not flats.

Education, better provision for SEN, more SEN units or specialist schools.

ssd · 25/05/2024 20:11

To sort out the NHS

AllIWantIsACuppa · 25/05/2024 20:13

DH is on just over £100000 and already pays enough tax thanks. He works bloody hard and only gets to keep about two thirds of that salary.

I wouldn't be so bothered except we get nothing in return for it. Can't get a dentist or a GP appointment. My kids' school has to beg parents for donations to pay for resources. The roads are full of holes.

You can't keep squeezing middle and high earners to fund pensioners and other welfare recipients and offer nothing in return. People like my DH will just go elsewhere or reduce hours / salary sacrifice to pay less tax.

I want a government who will take the job seriously and try and do the best for the country. They should also be respected on the world stage and not ridiculed.

I want a serious debate about the NHS. It needs reforming, but I don’t want it sold off to highest bidder or international hedge funds.

I want the government to help young people. They have been seriously let down over the last few years. Zero hours contract, uni debts, housing problems and the realisation that they will be working until they drop dead!

I want a plan to pull people out of poverty. It’s very easy to blame the ‘underclass’ of milking the benefits system. A lot of these families don’t know any different. Help the kids in these families. Help them to break the cycle.

And finally, stop allowing the countries wealth to be taken overseas. Tax the mega rich. Make companies pay their dues. Don’t expect the middle classes to pay for everything.

Rant over 😉

A government who admits the public are part of the problem.

The Tories have been a shitshow but the quality of the public has absolutely nosedived. They’re lazy, entitled, unhealthy, weak and unintelligent.

Essentially a ‘firm but fair’ parent who is willing to make unpopular decisions and hold their nerve.

No more bloody concessions and handing out free money.

Reward people who work.

Stop letting half the country play the victim.

I suppose if living standards are increased that would be ok

TiptoeThroughTheToadstools · 25/05/2024 20:24

Independence for Scotland
Womens spaces protected
Hate bill repealed
Higher tax on high earners and corporations
More strict rules around MPs pay/expenses
More assistance for the vulnerable
NHS to be fully nationalised and fully funded
MPs to actually be held accountable to their constituents when they ignore them
And since I'm writing a wish list, a million pounds please Grin
